Woah...it's been HOT, but I love playing in the heat!!!!  I couldn't resist snapping this pic with my phone camera (a thermo on the starter shack) before starting my 2nd-18 for the day.  LOL......as you can tell, this is in the shade. IMO...playing 36+holes is no problemmo when it's hot.

Heat, you ask?  I say BRING IT!!!

1. the course is less crowded. (fast play)

2. I may be 43, but my joints feel like I'm 25 again when the temps rise.

LOL

A penny for your thoughts on playing during blazing heat......

I like it. My body is loose and it doesn't seem to make me sick.  My club championship is coming up  this weekend in Cincy and its going to be 94 and 95 with heat index in the hundreds.  Looking forward to that.

Aaaaah yes.....my college roomies were Moeller grads.

I have one Cincy golf story to share:  I was hell/bent on a Columbus to Cincy golf road trip as a single...LOL....(way back in the day)  I called ahead to make sure getting paired up wasn't a problem.....  After calling ahead, I chose to play Blue Ash because I heard it was a great course.  I get there AFTER CALLING AHEAD....and the greens were airified the FREEKIN DAY BEFORE!!!!  I told them I was driving 120 miles too.....and they neglected to share this little nugget of INFO.  I WAS SO MAD!!!  LOL..oh well....

The plan was to play 36 there, but I left and played Glenview for my 2nd 18.  Woah...I was not a happy camper!!  Blue Ash will forever be in my doghouse.....IMO

Yes....I know of what you speak!!!  For me, a fresh golf glove is critical during times of high heat and humidity!!  I order my golf gloves by the box......I kid you not! LOL ....what do you expect?  I'm a lefty and most courses don't stock good gloves for US!!! Do you expect me to buy the crappy lefty synthetic stuff on the shelf?...I think not!!...I plan ahead!!  I order my gloves (good ones) 6 at a time. I always have backups.......

I also carry a clean dry towel.........for sweat duty only!! (not to be confused for the club-head cleaning towel)  I also recommend a rosin bag.  If you are a hot weather walker, those little rosin-bags are magical wonders for drying sweaty palms.

OK..now for the really anal part......

I use 2 gloves during every round when it's hot/humid.  I use a new glove off the tee when using lumber...........and a less than new glove on other shots.  I should also add, the glove comes off immediately after every shot and it hangs on the cart steering wheel to air-dry between shots:)

I've twice gone to Palm Springs in August to play golf. I would do it again if I had time this summer. I think the hottest I've played in was 115 degrees.

I don't like the heat and avoid playing in more than 30 degree celsius (about 90 degree fahrenheit). Thankfully in Switzerland its mostly cooler than 30° (perhaps 10-15 during the summer).

The heat bothers me much less than the cold, as long as I can keep my hands realitively dry, I'm good to go.

I love playing in the heat, but it is hard to find others that enjoy it as well. Obviously I prefer a nice cool calm 75° day with a slight breeze and not a cloud in the sky, but that is not happening in Ohio in July/August. The entire month of September is usually when all of my golf buds are ready to play.

We went out 2 weeks ago when we had an index of 115° and there was not enough water in the world to keep hydrated. That was kind of torture at that point!

I don't mind playing in the heat, but I will say that the heat does make me more lethargic and therefore the likelihood for me to lose focus during the round is considerably higher. It's also kind of distracting when there is sweat constantly dripping down my face, but that's why I try to bring a sweat towel. Low 70s is ideal golf weather for me; sadly, I'm at school whenever it's in the low 70s.

my take on playing in the heat:

I always carry at the very minimum...a 1L/quart size bottle with me.......we have water coolers every third tee...3rd-6th..on the front.....12th-15th on the back.  Plus...our marshals carry water jugs mounted on the back of their carts. (plenty of oppy... to fill in-between too) ....

If you only use those tiny cone sized cup dispensers at watercoolers, I agree with you!!!....you will get dehydrated.  If you carry your own water bottle, there is plenty enough water to keep hydrated.  I may even slip/up..and arrive at a water cooler nearly full....and I'll chug the entire bottle so I can refill...LOL  I find that between what I drink before refilling and the refills......there is more than enough water available to play in any amount of heat.

Today was a steady 100 with a good amount of humidity... Me and a buddy were playing at his home course, and neither of us were doing well. I shot a 56 and him a 53... We quit after the 10th hole. It's just too hot.

I coulda sworn I left the cart right here......

I'm originally from the Houston area so heat and humidity was all I knew until about five years ago when I moved to the mid-west (damn the winters here are cold).

So I like playing in the heat.  I will say though that I tend to get sweat in my eyes and that does put a damper on things.  I never thought about using two gloves or letting them air dry between shots.  Thanks for the tip!

My buddy who was offered a job in Seattle put it best. "I'm solar powered"  I say, bring on the sun and bring on the heat! Being a SoCal native it all comes naturally to me. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I've played when it was 36 to 106. Neither bother me to much, you just have to prepare for the conditons. The starter and cart girl called me crazy for walking 18 when it was 96 (heat index 105). I walk every round I play so that is no big deal, but having a 1.5 liter of ice water in the "cooler" pocket of my bag is a must!

it's 11:11pm and the temperature is 95*F.

i guess this really isn't anything unusual for kansas. you can pretty much expect highs in the upper 90s-lower 100s between the end of may and middle of august every year. i won't go as far as saying that i love hot temperatures, but they're not keeping me off the course.

Houston heat is not for me, just wilts me.  So...this summer I am confining my tee-off time to about 5:30 p.m. and play as many holes as possible until dark.  If there is a good breeze this is doable for me.

I grew up in Iowa (terrible heat + humidity in the summer) and later lived in Oklahoma and Florida.  I basically grew up playing in fairly oppressive heat, so it really doesn't bother me, especially with a slight breeze.  Right now we're in the middle of the few weeks of 100+ heat index we get each summer.  The only thing I've noticed is that my hands get sticky - not sweaty, but sticky.  This could be from the grips I play compounded by the fact that I don't wear a glove.  It's uncomfortable, so I have to rinse my hands off every few holes when it is really hot.
