With the Four 5, does the stand mechanism get in the way when strapping it to a trolley? My current Ogio Vaporlite doesn't fit at all well on a trolley unless I remove the stand mechanism from the bag first.

(and yes, I do realise that the clue is in the title and it's a "stand bag" - I just prefer dragging a trolley than carrying and I like my bag as it is )

Yes w/ the pre-2011; not so much with the 2011+, which have the cart friendly base.

Ah ok. I take it the cart friendly base has room for a bungee to go around it then; something the Vaporlite doesn't - I have to bungee around the bag itself which then means its extra awkward getting clubs in and out. :-(

I have a Nike Sasquatch / Performance stand bag with full-length 14-way dividers, it's pretty good, the cooler pocket is nice.  Doesn't fit on a cart very well and the pockets don't 'expand' enough, can't really fit much in them.

I was at Golfsmith yesterday and Sun Mountain has a new bag out, I can't even find it on their website.  It's called the 'Hybrid' bag, think a cross between their C-130 and the Four-5.  It's a little more square than the standard carry bag and has full 14-way dividers in a square pattern.  No insulated pocket, though...or I would have bought it right there.

Edit: Found it on Golfsmith's website... Sun Mountain Hybrid Golf Bag .

They also had the Taylormade 'hybrid' bag, it has a 14-way top in their 'arc' / 'wave' pattern (or whatever you want to call it).  It has a nice size insulated pocket (bigger than the Nike), lightweight carry bag, nice stand and good expandable pockets.  It also has another hidden pocket behind the hip pad which will give you more room when you put it on a cart.  I haven't tried it on a cart, but everything else is on my list of 'must-haves'!  This, right now (unless Sun Mountain or Ogio comes out with something new) is my next bag.

That Hybrid bag is sweet!  I ended up going with the four 5 though.  I'll never own another bag that doesn't have full 14 way dividers.

Same question I've been going over.  Have decided to go for the Ogio Recoil in Siberian color.  Havent got it yet so dont know how it will perform but IMO its the best looking bag out there.

DEFINITELY check out the Ogio Grom XX. Has some medium and small pockets, unlike the Four 5 which has all large pockets besides one... And it has more pockets overall. People seem to really like the diamond system, because you put all your clubs with headcovers in the middle and it really reduces club chatter. It is 14 way full divider, and clubs slide in and out pretty easily. Also the ball silo and zipperless ball pocket is nice. Check it out before you make your decision.

You've chosen well. I've never seen anyone have to start a "how do I arrange my clubs in a four5" thread because they make sense.

haha.  i saw that thread and thought it was very funny.

I also don't understand the pocket issue.   What do people carry around that they need more pockets of particular sizes?  Do you need a special pocket for your divot repair tool and another specially designed for tees?  I don't mean to knock the Ogio, which I've never used.  I just dont understand why someone would look at a Four5 and think "man, I really wish it had another medium sized pocket so I didn't have to use a big one"

FWIW, my Four5 even has a spot specially designed to hold a pen.  I'm not sure why, but its there.

I'm pretty sure the Taylormade and the SunMoutain are identical except for the branding.

I thought the Hybrid that replaces the Four5 was a bit too big.

Do y'all think the hybrid bag would be to big as a regular use of a carry bag for walking the course. It has the color I want (blue/lime). The four5 doesn't really have a color I like. Thanks.

I wouldn't want to carry it.  I think it looks very big.

Hybrid weighs 6.25 lbs and Four 5 weighs 5 lbs.  If you're going to carry I'd want the bag to be as light as possible.

You can carry it just fine, but it is a bigger bag. The way I see the difference in the four5 and the hybrid is this. The Four5 is for someone that primarily walks, but still likes to ride every now and then. The Hybrid is the opposite, for someone that primarily rides, but still likes to walk every now and then. As for a great carry bag, I'd say the Sun Mountain 3.5, great bag, but if you need the 14 dividers, then the four5.

The Sun Mountain Four 5 is the lightest 14-way bag I'm aware of so I'd suggest that, after that the Nike Performance Carry Stand bag at 5.5 lbs.

Do any of these 14-way bags have liners (for each individual club) from top to bottom?  Meaning you won't have the evil crisscrossing of shafts/grips?  I hate that when you go to put a club back in the bag and it won't just slide back in without fussing around moving other clubs around to get it to fit/come to rest properly.  I'd say that is one of the complaints, oversights I have in my current bag.

    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.

    • Cool here's my tweak, "If a player’s ball lies in the general area and there is interference from exposed tree roots or exposed rocks that are in the fairway or 1 club length from the fairway the tree roots and exposed rocks are treated as ground under repair. The player may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.[But relief is not allowed if the tree roots only interfere with the player’s stance.]
    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
