I biked 23.25 miles today;  20 miles was a ride that included two hills I was afraid of (I gave myself permission before I left the house to walk the bike up both hills... I realized about a mile after the first one that I had made it to the top and beyond without noticing).  I got back to my house and checked the MapMyWalk app and it said I was at 20 miles, almost exactly, but instead of stopping I biked around my neighborhood a bit more (I have a semi-standard "add some miles to my ride if I still want to bike a bit more" addition).

On a related note, I find I'm out of Gatorade (I use the Zero stuff, don't worry) before I get home.  How big do water bottles for biking get?  I can carry a ton of water bottles when I play golf, and it's super easy to bring water and protein shakes into my gym aka garage, but neither set is the type that I think would work with a bike.

My bag:

Taylor Made Burner 2 irons (stiff)

Doesn't that make it difficult to ride with clothes hanging on it ?

Yeah, that's a good point.  It's probably time to carry a refill with me, and at this point, it's going to become a backpack instead of the fanny pack I wear (containing phone, ID/CC, spare facial covering, sometimes a Clif bar) when biking.

Returned to training after the club championship.  I know some Tour players train on the day of a round, but (a) I'm not that advanced and (b) it was going to be a bit of a journey from home to the course, and I had to already leave my house sufficiently early many mornings.

Anyway, today was 3x7x125 on both squats and bench press.  Hopefully getting 3x8 next time I do each and am ready to move up to 130 or 135 the time after!

So this morning I did an endurance ride of just over 10 miles and thought I was really hauling ass. Turns out, like 3000 people did better than me. I have to figure out the standings part of this I-fit bike. I guess I should read the manual. 🤔

Suggestion. instead of measuring yourself against others who did better

, be glad you are involved in a program of fitness. Maybe 3000 people did better than you, but millions are doing nothing at all.

23.5 mile road cycling, although a good bit of it on bike paths not actual roads.

Yes.  The app I use to track my distance, UA's "Map my Walk" has "road cycling" as the option to select when doing this (versus, say, walking, which I also track).

Admittedly, part of those 23.5 miles were a wrong turn I had to reverse, maybe half a mile total, and maybe the last mile was just riding around my neighborhood when I got back instead of pulling in and going right to my garage and stopping.

Don't sell yourself short . You may have taken that wrong tern unconsciously in order to fulfill that extra effort you were looking for.

You are absolutely right, but I can't help being a competitor. I was trying to make the top 1000. I always set a goal.  As a matter of fact (and I know this is off topic), I recently purchased a copy of "The Golfing Machine" and I am determined to read it and understand it.

There is nothing wrong with setting the bar high, just do not set it so high that is not fun.

Workout sets today were 3x6x80 press and 1x6x205 deadlift.

I also, in warm-up, did 1x20xbar (45 lbs) squats;  I hadn't planned to do squats at all today, but I wanted to remind my legs that, despite their being slightly sore from yesterday's bike ride (I assume that's the cause), that a little soreness doesn't earn them the day off.  I hope they don't get the wrong message from this.  I used to avoid working out any sore part, but I later came to believe that more mild workouts were better than none for the sore part.

2x8x125 and then 2x5x125 on the bench.  My goal was 3x8x125.  I exhausted in the third attempt, so I rested a few minutes and did the fourth so I'd at least have done 24+ bench presses today, but then I didn't do the second plan set (squats).  I'll go for a bike ride later today to make up for the leg exercise.  Debating if next time I bench will be 125 lbs or if I move up a bit, probably the latter.

Update:  I took a 13 mile bike ride this evening;  it would have been longer but I started late and a trail I like closes at sundown.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
