Impressive the way he stuck with it and came back from +9 his first eight holes last week to finish t2 playing a back nine Sunday that gave him a chance to win.

Looking at his OWGR, it seems like he has really had a break through with his game this year.  Not unheard, especially for a young guy, but what do you think took him to the next level?

FWIW, with only 28 events and nothing rolling out in the next 5 weeks, there is a good chance for his ranking to continue to climb.
John Huh withdrew after 12 holes in his second round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship due to an elbow injury . The rookie walked off after a double bogey at the par-4 third hole. He was 8-over-par on the round with five bogeys and two doubles at the time. He opened with an even-par 70 on Thursday. If he's able, Huh will try again next week at Colonial where he's listed in the published field.
http://fantasygolf.usatoday.com/content/player.asp?sport=GOL&id;=1773

After 3rd round, John is in 5th place!  If I used him, he would have missed the cut,  lol

Definitely some good rookies out there including Huh, Harris English, Bud Cauley, Noh, Potter Jr, Harmon, Chistian and Blixt, but not all of the good young guns are in the playoffs including http://thesandtrap.com/t/61140/ben-kohles-impressive , and http://thesandtrap.com/t/61591/trivia-which-player

He's really lit a fire under all of us that know him. I know I've never practiced as hard as I have been...

What did Foltz have to say?

I remember this episode of Morning Drive and distinctly remembered this thread and Ben. That was when I was having serious hand issues though and swore off all unnecessary computer use at that time, or I would have posted.

Foltz said "I was doing some research into this John Huh guy and literally found next to nothing...until I found this blog/website (sorry Erik, he called this place a "blog" ) and found a post by a mini-tour player who knew John and played with him and had nothing but great things to say." I'm paraphrasing of course as this episode was months ago.

Both GW and Foltz admitted that this was the only information on Huh out at that time, so thanks Ben. It was a really cool moment on the show if you're an avid Sandtrapper.

He never once mentioned the Sandtrap or Ben by name, but being that Ben has now confirmed Foltz PM'd him, my instincts were correct they were talking about this thread. Cool.

John had a great round yesterday of -6 which has him up near the lead and just barely inside the top 30 heading into round 3 of the BMW today. He's been paired with Adam Scott both days so far. He's still got Adam in his group along with Zack Johnson now. How cool!

Let's see another 66 today! (or better of course!)

I agree, but to play devils advocate, Bud Cauley has 2 more top 10s, a lower scoring ave and is ranked 55 (in part because of his good play at the end of last season which doesn`t count towards this year ROY).

If Cauley or someone like Seung Yul Noh (lower scoring ave, fewer missed cuts and more top 25s than either Huh or Cauley) were to win a fall series event, then the picture would get pretty clouded.

yeah I noticed Cauley was higher up in OWGR. Didn't know about the top 10s stats though. I know he would be the other big competition for John. But come on, Its gotta be HUH!

I think Jonas Blixt just put himself in contention for rookie of the year by winning this week in his 19th event of the season.  With 9 fewer starts than Huh, he has more top 3s and more top 10s than Huh and is not too far behind him on the money list.  I would still give the nod to Huh, but another strong finish by Blixt could make it really close.

    • I had the D-9's a while back, thought the stock Wilson grips were rubbish.  I put Pure grips on them. Pure is now out of business but available on Golfworks.  Currently some colors in stock as of today. PURE Wrap Golf Grips - The GolfWorks PURE Golf's tackiest grip, the Wrap features a perforated wrap design and is ideal for golfers that prefer a slightly softer, more muted feel at impact.
    • If he had to hit over the bunker, I'm guessing he was further from the hole, although "in front of" implies the opposite.  If that's right, that may have been the right spot for penalty relief, a single PS.
    • Day 52. Trying to work on hard pan lie pitching in the rain in the yard.
    • Did you look up any Rules before posting here? What did you learn or find? You don't get to drop (or place) closer to the hole. 16.1(c) deals with relief for Abnormal Course Conditions in bunkers. You're granted free relief for: Since you say the bunker was basically entirely full of water, you likely wouldn't get complete relief, so for free (no penalty strokes), you are entitled to "maximum available" relief. If there's a spot in the back of the bunker away from the hole where the water is the shallowest, then you can drop there. If you don't like any of those options, you can take a penalty stroke and drop out of the bunker, behind it: You seem to have played from a wrong place (nearer to the hole) and thus likely should be penalized two strokes. It doesn't sound like a serious breach, at least.
    • I feel that the stock grips on my Wilson D9's are a little thin.  The grips on my other clubs (purchased used online and sold by me a couple months ago) were Golf Pride and they looked like the wrapped version.  I will say they felt like they had a little more cushion.  I don't have particularly large hands.  Did the grips on my other clubs have more tape or was just a better feeling softer grip?  I have no idea.  Well, any brands you would recommend that have a softer feel?
