I'm surprised there isn't already a thread on this. My team is the Flyers, and it annoys me how a lot of the time, the offense gets it together and the goalie shits the bed, or the other way around. If the Flyers had a consistently good defense and/or goalie, they'd be one hell of a force to be reckoned with.

It also upsets me that they haven't beaten the Rangers yet this season, though the Rangers are pretty damn good this year. Ridiculous goalie coupled with a good defense makes for a frightening combination.

Minnesota Wild are my team.

Quite the epic/historic collapse this season. Leading the NHL on December 17th, now out of the playoffs and no chance of making it. No team has ever lead the NHL in December and not made the playoffs. Epic.

Be happy you're not a fan of my team dude, they're unwatchable.

I am a huge Blackhawks fan (I am originally from the Chicago 'Burbs).

Living in Nashville, I am also a big fan of the Predators. When I go to games, I root for the Preds, unless the Hawks are in town, of course.

I am a Flyers fan as well! Bryz has really pulled it together lately after a horrible start.  The team looks so bad almost every day game which kind of sucks.

Big game tomorrow against the pens, hopefully they can put an end to their 11 game winning streak.

P.S. Where is Danny Briere?????????

I'm a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Born & raised. It's tough to be a Leaf fan considering we haven't made the playoffs since who knows when and they looked solid at the end of January - and now, they look awful. But hockey is a religion here, sell out every night regardless. Was looking good for a while, but looks like it's all over now. It's another "wait until next year" season for us unless there is some sort of miracle where they run the table and everyone else tanks.

Awesome to see Bryz win player of the week two weeks in a row. I hope he stays hot going into the playoffs, because if he does then the Flyers will be a deadly team.

If he is playing well I think they have a chance against any team in the playoffs.

And how about the year Scott Hartnell is having! He might reach 40 goals this year...never thought that would happen.

If  the Flyers want to have a chance of getting out of the 1st round, they should let the Devils leapfrog them in the standings....if playoffs started today the Flyers would be playing the Pens and there is no way the Flyers will beat them in a 7 game series.  If the Pens move into first...that would mean the Flyers would get into it with the Rangers...whom I think they would also lose against.

Downside for Philly is that it's not looking like they will have any home ice advantage...

Philly plays the Panthers if they finish 6th, so yeah it'd be best if the Devils were to finish ahead of them.

I think the Flyers could handle the Pens in a 7-game series, though. I'd much rather that than playing the Rangers first round, anyway.

As a long suffering Blues fan (I know that is redundant) I've been very excited this year.  Leading the league is not where I thought they would be back in October. But, having had my heart broken before, I'm only cautiously optimistic.  Still, good to have them relevant once golf has started for a change!

I feel for you.  Grew up not far from TO and my best friend still has his "67AGIN" Leafs license plate.  Sorry to see them fall hard this year - thought it might be a good run for them early on.

Ashamed to admit it, but an Islanders fan here.  Only thing we have left to play for is to not finish last.  I miss the days of Bossy, Trotts, Gillies, Nystrom and Smith.

I'm a Flames fan... and sadly they have to win their final two games to even have a chance to make the playoffs... Which is kinda sad... four teams in the Pacific Division have a chance to get the #3 seed which is a joke because frankly that division is a joke... but the East has the same dilemma with the Southeast Division... but only Florida and Washington can win that division... Speaking of the Southeast Division... I wanna congratulate the Winnipeg Jets on achieving much more than I expected out of them... I know probably none of you will agree with me... but they logged the most frequent flyer mileage of any NHL team... consider this there closest interconference team is in Toronto! Their closest divisional rival is Washington! IMHO when the NHL does realignment this summer... Winnipeg belongs in the Western Conference. Period! My guess would be either the Central (sending Nashville to the Southeast)... or the Northwest (sending Minnesota to the Central and Nashville to the Southeast)...

The Rangers are the talk of the NHL... first team to 50 wins... Tied with Vancouver for the race for the President's Trophy... with a game in hand... one more win... and 46 regulation and overtime wins vs. Vancouver's 42... so even if they finish with the same point total and wins... The Rangers would win the Presdient's Trophy... and the curse will be lifted this year if New York wins the President's Trophy...

No one seems to wanna win the President's Trophy... but when the Rangers won the Cup in 1994... They won the President's Trophy... so who knows

Wouldn't it be just like the Leafs to win from here on in, and finish in no man's land again. Not good enough for the playoffs, but just good enough to impact the draft. On the bright side, how about those Blue Jays?

I'm a red sox fan :). It's funny every year we r out of a playoff spot at the all star break and go on a tear the rest of the year only to miss the playoffs by a point or two and this year we comfortably in 6th and do the opposite. Do you think Jonas will be with the team next year ?

    • It sucks to carry around a lot of water, but ideally it should be way more than we think.  I buy those gallon jugs of water and hang them from my pushcart when I walk. I agree with the electrolytes as well. You don't just sweat out water, but you lose electrolytes as well.
    • A 2010 study from the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research compares the effects of different pre-round stretch routines for competitive golfers. Active Dynamic Warm-up: Swing Medicus driver, hit 3 shots each with selected clubs. Passive Static Stretches: Various athletic stretches such as hamstrings, chest stretch and reverse trunk twist. The subjects were collegiate golfers with a HDCP index of 5 or less who engaged regularly in strength and fitness routines. All golfers had two test days: one with active dynamic (AD) warmup, a second with AD followed by static stretches (SS). The results were then compared, within golfers and across golfers. For performance testing after the warmups, golfers hit three driver shots at time 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the warmup. The study shows that static stretch formats produced poorer performance outcomes in the four measures shown in Table 5, which shows Time Zero results. The performance deficits under the PSS protocol decreased over time. Some suggestions on why the passive protocol was tied to lower performance than the active protocol: The passive stretches routine induced excessive range of motion,  basically producing wobbles in the golf swing. Other research indicates that the stretching produced slack in the tendons, lessening the amount of muscle force that could be transferred into the shot. One caveat: The study had good scientific controls and balancing of treatments (test routines). This was, however, an exploratory study and raises as many questions as it answers. Also, although the study was done back in 2010, it is still cited as a primary work in recent reviews. A quick online search did not reveal any follow-ups on the study. For those interested, the study PDF is below. PassiveStretchGOLF.pdf
    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
