Some of you may remember me from my post a while ago about breaking 80 in a short amount of time after starting golf. Well, the logical next step was of course, par of better.

Today I played LPGA International Champions Course (6700 yards) and shot a 72

7 birdies, 5 bogeys, and 1 double to post an even par round of golf for the first time ever! It was an up and down day and quite honestly, year as well.

I played my first ever round of golf August, 2010 and was hooked from the word go. Since then I have work my butt off spending COUNTLESS hours hitting pitches, chips, putts, fades, draws, and I'm not gonna lie, quite a few slices. The truth though, is that I have loved every minute of it. I love putting my ear buds in, dropping 3 balls on the green, and hitting putts till they ask me to leave. I love walking to the range with another large bucket just to see if I can master the stinger 3 wood, the knockdown wedge or the ever-elusive high draw with my driver. Numerous times I've hits ball till dark without even noticing the time pass.

I've worked on several occasions with my local pro and I can say that I would not have progressed nearly as quickly as I have without his instruction.

What made it all worth it was sinking the left-to-right 15 foot birdie putt on the last to match old Mr Par.

For everyone out there working hard to beat the course, keep working, its so worth it.

To be quite honest, that is absolutely amazing considering you've only been playing for 18 months........not to mention you did it on a legit golf course.  Very impressive.............

You come across as one of these young phenoms who will be taking college golf by storm soon.  If I may ask, how old are you?

That's fantastic!  I think that you have an amazing attitude.  ANybody who loves the game that much and loves practicing that much (not to mention some obvious talent in progressing so quickly) has a pretty high ceiling.

Keep it up and good luck.

I believe he is using golfshot.com.  I got a recommendation from someone else on here for the same program.  It's got a free iphone app as well, and its fairly easy/quick to use while playing, or just load up everything afterwards.

I worked mostly on full swing and course management with the pro. My biggest leaps forward were when I was finally control my swing by shortening my backswing and taking more club. This resulted in more consistent results but this is much more difficult to do than you might think.

I have felt like I was on the verge of a fantastic round but I was playing blades, (Mizuno MP63) with x-stiff shafts and I had a lot of trouble hitting solid long irons. Last two rounds I decided to take my brothers Callaway X24 irons for a spin and wow! So forgiving and accurate. I feel like I can do no wrong with these clubs. I know they are GI irons but you know what, I don't care. THEY WORK.

Obviously you're not an infant. You've been playing golf for 18months, correct? Impressive improvement if that is the case...

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
