That lead to my "hypocrite" comment. Next time I'll add all relevant quotes.

What I should have said, and I apologize, is "Hypocrites" meaning, the people that THEY abhor ("they" meaning the typical sports fan turned off by hefty golfers) are the people drawn to the sport because of it's low fitness demand. Maybe "ironic" would have been a better choice of words.  I realize you were just playing devil's advocate.

Oh ok, your post now makes total sense.  Sorry for the misunderstanding.

That is very true and valid point.

How many times do you hear comments like "if a 300 lbs. man can play it while drinking a beer, it isn't a sport" and that is what led me to make my first post.  I am not 300 lbs and do not drink while golfing but it bothers me when people say this because they assume its an easy game that takes no talent level.

My post was more an insight to what I hear the public say about golf and no way a reflection of my own personal opinion.

I don't disagree with your posts, but I'd guess more people are attracted to golf for social aspects rather than it being viewed as a sport with low fitness demand.  I run marathons for athletic challenge and fitness, I started to play golf for personal enjoyment, professional and social networking.  My near obsession to improve is due to my desire to not make a fool of myself while golfing with business associates and my own high expectations for wanting to do something the best I can.  I also don't know many 300lb beer drinking men who can walk 18 holes carrying their bag and shoot a low score but I'm sure they exist.

In all honesty, I have never heard anyone ever say this.  Maybe I don't get around much, but whether it is a "sport" or and "activity" doesn't really matter, does it?  In my mind, sitting on your butt in a car for hours on end doesn't equate to a "sport" for me, but millions of NASCAR fans would disagree.  Likewise, I don't feel that any "sport" that requires judges to determine the winner shouldn't be part of the Olympics, but then what would we do with all those figure skaters and gymnasts?

So the answer would be zero.

That 2006 Volvo Masters win was solid though. Easily a tougher victory that some PGA Tour events. He was one of just four players under par at the very tough Valderrama Golf Club. He beat Donald, Sergio, Jose MO, Westwood, Paddy, Poulter, Casey, Stensen, Hansen, Gonzalo FC, Karlsson, Monty, Angel, Bjorn, Charl, Jaidee, Hanson, McDowell, F Molinari, Romero, etc. That event was a tough field before the FedExCup started. http://sports.yahoo.com/golf/european/leaderboard/2006/176

Let's throw Ben Curtis into the discussion with his win in Texas. That's 4 tour wins including a Major. Not a bad career.

Which, I should note since he's a diehard Browns fan (like myself), he hated having to wear the Stoolers colors when he played in western PA. Just sayin'

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
