When playing a skins game with greenies, and sandies. Do you only get a sandie when you get up and down from a green side bunker, or a par when you were in the sand at anytime during a hole? I know everyone has different rules, for different games. Just looking for a concensus opinion. Thanks!

I play it, up and down for par or better from a greenside bunker.  So if you hit into a bunker on your second shot on a par 5 you get credit if you get up and down for birdie.  Also get credit if you hole out for birdie on a par 4 or eagle on a par 5.  Some may disagree though.

Yep sandies are considered any time you are in the bunker and make par. Doesn't matter where the bunker is.

So if you're in the fairway bunker, you hit it on the green, and then make par, that's good for a sandie.

How about, par 5 in a fairway bunker, hit out, next shot on green, 2 putt for a par. I've always played a par from the sand at any time, and this week we had a couple new guy's playing with us, and said only up and down greenside bunker. Just wondering how everyone else plays it.

Per the PGA Tour stats it's when a player gets up and down from a greenside sand bunker, regardless of score on the hole.  The broader definition (per about.com) says a sand save is making a par or better on any hole in which you were in a bunker.

There are several trash bets for skins:

Sandie = PAr or better from a bunker; reagardless of up and down or which bunker (including a fairway bunker on par 5)

Birdie = self explanatory

Eagles = self explanatory

Aces = self explanatory

Greenies = ctp on par 3.  have to make par or better or it carries over

Polies = GIR within length of flagstick

Snakes = putts made longer than 2 flagsticks

Really trash bets:

Seve = make a par or better after incurring a penalty stroke

Arnie = Make a par or better after hitting a tree

Geenie Whack = Lose a skin to the field if you 3-putt a greenie

Murphy = gain a skin on the field if you call an up and down from off the green before your shot

Never heard of half of those.  Already incorporate Sandies, birdies, and Greenies, but i like the idea of polies and snakes (and even arnies)  This should make for a more interesting time out when I go on Tuesday.

I've also seen another interesting game played.  Basically, every bogey (net) the golfer has to put $5 into the pot.  For every double bogey (net), $10.  At the end of the round, the golfer with the best score (net) takes it.  Per 4 some, this would probably pay for the winner's round and more.

Greenie Whack = Reverse Greenie, in my groups

Snakes are not automatic (2 flagsticks doesn't seem that long) - but can be offered on any hole, it creates some banter and mind game to it.

We also have local names for your Seve & Arnie, named after guys who typically play from the woods or out of trouble.

The options are limitless.  Just depends on how much you want to gamble.  I have even played if you call "murph" while the ball is in the air the skin bet is doubled.

ok those are all different things that happen but lets say your playing dollar skins. Do you play if you make par up and down from a bunker it becomes a 2 dollar skin automatically or is it just a name for what you did and still only playing for a dollar. If you snake do you get an extra dollar? Do you play closest to the pin on everyhole for an extra dollar? and so on.

Yes correct. If you're skins are $1 per hole. Any sandie, greenie, snake, etc. Get's an additional dollar added. If the hole gets carried over, then so does the additional dollar.

You can get a sandie for example, but lose it to skins. For example. You get a sandie for par, but your friend got a birdie. So he wins the skins, and your sandie extra dollar.

wow that can get alot more expensive quick, I haven't played skins with people of my skill level in a long time. last time i played skins i was terrible and always though well i cant lose more than 18 today but now im quite a bit better than my playing partners. sounds like i could pay for my round and then some.

EAch skin is $1 adn each trash is $1.  Greenies are only on par 3's.  We carry over skins and greenies.

I like playing straight up traditional skins..For some reason all those other things make it feel like work, to me.

I forgot to add that I will play a head-to-head skins game when I play with my brother; the stipulation is that you have to validate to win the skin.

    • Day 86 (26 Jul 25) - Down at the beach place, had kept the clubs with me after playing yesterday.  Spent time this afternoon checking them over and brushing grooves on the wedges and irons.  Spent a few minutes working thru the swing process…working in slo mo through backswing and proper weight shift.
    • . I've been Playing Golf for: 10 years, 1 year consistently  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 My typical ball flight is: fade The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: inconsistent ball strike   I caught the bug about a year ago and have been playing roughly once a week. Have been getting better with my short game and putting but my ball striking from tee and fairway lets me down. Had my first lesson last month which identified an over the top swing compensated by an open club face. Have been trying everything to get on plane over the last month. Have found that using a bend and press into my left leg as the trigger for my downswing coupled with finding the turn and rotation in both my arms to release the club properly has helped my get nearer to the correct plane. Video below is where I am with it currently. Haven’t taken this new swing to the course yet! Any comments or suggestions are welcome  Videos:  I've been Playing Golf for: 1 year properly  My current handicap index or average score is: 100 av score
    • That's always been the deal. You put in the work hyper focused on ONE or at most two things, so that you don't have to think about anything except a single feel or the target or something on the course.
    • Blind squirrel finds a nut and putted well. no, I decided to play a round being athletic rather than paralyzing myself with swing thoughts. I have no clue if I was doing what I worked on. It was the last day and I was tired of freezing at the top of the swing not know if one of four outcomes were going to happen.
    • Day 299 - 2025-07-26 I spent 15 minutes practicing but it was almost pointless. It wasn't good practice. I was not really in it, but I put the time in. Oh, I did some chipping work before-hand, and that was good. I could have just left after that. 🙂
