3 wood off the tee. Tee it high or tee it low and why?

My 3W is 14.5*. I tee it low like an iron. And let it fly. Trajectory is not an issue at all.

OK, even though I don't own a 3 wood (4 wood is my weapon of choice!!!) I'll weigh in. Definitely tee it low, so it looks like the perfect lie. Have tried teeing it up more, but just doesn't seem right. Unlike others in this thread, don't know how many 1/8's or millimeters are involved, exactly. But seriously, my best fairway wood shots never involve a divot, just a clean sweep. Hitting off of a low tee placement seems to work best.

I put in between, because I never tee up an iron, just get a good lie and go.  I tee up my 4 Wood by grabbing the ball and pushing the tee in until my knuckles hit the ground, so I guess that would be considered low by most, since it's barely above the grass, but it's higher than I tee my irons, which is not at all.

LOL - I don't either. As popular as driver off the deck is around here, I never do it with a modern one. Somebody must be though based on the tee box at our 560 yard par 5. The landing area is mile wide and 150 yards long so it's not like people need to hit a 3-iron off the tee. Maybe they just like to take a divot with a fairway wood?!?

Like some others have said, I also tee it low since that's how I hit it on the fairway. I don't want to mess with something that isn't broken.

Don't underestimate the damage to the turf we hackers can accidentally do. I've taken my fair share of unintentional divots with the driver. :doh:

I used a shallow faced 3 wood and hit the ball farther when using a tee that has the ball about half way above the crown of the head. The ball hit the 200 yard marker fence and bounced over it. Off the deck, the carry distance is substantially shorter. The blue "4 yards more" tee is about the right height for this particular 3 wood.
