But i'm more intelligent than that. I hit 100 balls with a draw, 100 balls with a fade and 100 balls trying no shape. I look for the patterns and see where the common miss is. For me, a draw shot produces a tighter dispersion between furthest right and furthest left - so i use this shot more often. Also, 96 % of shots finish left of the target with this shape for me, so it is my stock shot and my anti-right shot.

However, when there is trouble on the left, my fade shot produces an anti-left pattern (95%), although at the cost of a wider dispersion.

My straight shot has a middle dispersion with a 70% left and 30% right miss.

Why on earth would I use my straight shot when my dispersion with a draw is tighter - even though I can hit a straight shot?

I'm glad you say you can hit it as straight as any guy on tour, because none of them hit it straight, every single one of them has a fade or draw. So I guess by your own admittance, you cannot hit the ball straight. U mad

That can't be right. Some of them got to hit it straight. I've heard of a few at least, though I can't recall the names right now. A Swede IIRC. Then again, how do you define straight? If you don't allow any movement left or right when using Trackman, nobody is hitting it straight.

Two guys in the history of the game who could hit the ball absolutely perfectly straight every time with ZERO sidespin, Moe Norman, and Me.

I will pretty simple too, everyone tries to overcomplicate things, I watch some of the guys on tour look like they have a stick shioved up thier #ss when they address. Why do you think tiger woods had 4 knee surgeries? too much hopscotch? No...too much unnatural twisting and strain. By the way I use a combination of Vardon's left hand and Normans right hand and its much better than the silly uncomfortable vardon overlap BLAH. With my grip the clubface is square at impact 95% of the time, the other 5% is when I don't feel like squaring up :) BUT, I also don't care about hitting the ball 350 yards. All I want to do is drop it at 275 arrow straight every time. And I will in time....hitting 500 balls a day will get you to where you need to be fast if you have half a brain and do your homework. Stop listening to youtube coaches and research it, and put in the time. One last thing, it takes HARD WORK.

Do you have trackman readings to confirm the zero sidespin?

Tell you what, in exactly one month from now, after hitting at least 500 balls a day, thats 15,000....if you go to the range once a week and hit a hundred? that 400 shots you take. So lets see.....thats about FOURTEEN THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED more shots than you in 30 days. If you cannot master something that you have done FIFTEEN THOUSAND TIMES, you're doing something seriously wrong. Go play cribbage. Video in 30 days how to hit the ball dead straight every single time.

Hitting 500 balls in a single range session seems counter productive.

Titleist does, and used to fly Moe in every month and test him. He's the only human being that has ever lived on planet earth that could hit the ball every single time with absolutely zero sidespin. period. That is until I was born :)

So you have Trackman readings that show zero sidespin for your shots?

My stock shot tends to be pretty much straight. I'd like to be a push-drawer, but I do it with any consistency with my shortest irons at the moment. My typical miss tends to be an OTT pull fade. One of the nicest additions to the new forum (well, "new" in the sense of 1.5 years old) is block lists. Just throwing that out there. :-)

Okay, serious business now, 500 balls a day is not counter productive, if you step to the ball, think, ball position, stance width, lie angle, clubface square, left grip, right grip, focus, BANG. 100 times with 25% power, 100 times at 50 % power....the first time you shank it, skull it, hook it, or slice it you drop down to the lower power and go low bang ten times, then reincrease. Working with lower power will train your hand eye coordination so much faster than hammering it and trying to adjust. This also gives your brain a chance to focus on the other things, keeping your head still....rolling the ankles....knee flex, hip rotation....laying off the club at the start of the downswing....getting the hip out of the way for that right elbow.....Slow everything waaaaay down and repeat repeat repeat until it becomes second nature and you can do what you want to the ball.  Train your brain and it will tell your body what to do.

If you have a net and a bucket of balls in the backyard like I do, than you can improve everything 500 times faster than someone who hits the range once a week and hits a large bucket.

ELIMINATE HOPE AND FEAR from the golfswing. Anyone can do it

To the original post:

I like hitting the ball straight. If I take 36 full swings in a round, I most likely try to hit 80% of them straight. There are times when one needs to try and curve the ball.

I am a student of Moe Norman and he could shape it anyway he liked. His preferred shape was dead straight -- and man could he hit the ball straight over and over and over. But he could make the ball move however he wished it to move.

I will say one thing about Mike, he has a lot of confidence in what he thinks he can do.  Maybe in 30 days (give or take a couple of weeks to allow for the upload time) we can see such a swing.  My favorite video of Moe is when he hits a shot that curves right after he says he always hits it perfectly straight, crowd laughs, and then he blames the ball.  It takes a special kind of delusion to hit it straight apparently.

I like how he changed his avatar after Erik stuck him with the cross-eyed guy.

My natural tendency for irons is a slight draw.

My natural tendency for woods is a slight fade.

I try to play to them. If I know where it's going and can control it, it's better than guessing where it's going to go. When I get more control I'll try to shape my shots differently, but I feel that's around the corner for my skill level.

2013 Goal:

Single digit handicap

Easy to journal it out then it is putting it into practice. 🤣 So, I am going to try this out for a while.  After every shot, say or think, “Onto the next challenge”. That is the phrase that will transition from the previous shot to the next one. Then, we will see what the score ends up at the end. Don’t look up till it’s over.
