I just recently noticed this happening with my regular golf buddy, which is why I brought it up.

We've played at least 60 rounds together the past year or so. He's been wicked busy with work and we've had about a month break from playing together. I noticed playing with more strangers there wasn't a dam you suck kinda comment after most shots; I'm not walking off the course irritated at the whole round. Instead I've got mental notes about what needed to be worked on and look back at rounds with more positive thoughts and a better feeling from the day.

I'm no positive mental energy guru kinda guy, but constant negative reinforcement of all the bad shots just sticks with ya, brings you down and just gets old...

#1 rule, in my opinion, is fix your ball marks on the green. On average, I probably fix 4 ball marks (including mine) per green. It's so disrespectful to the course and everyone out there not to.

Not officially an etiquette issue, but:

- Unless you're asked, don't tell others your perception of their swing faults.

Golf is the only game I'm aware of where seemingly every player stands ready to give out tips on technique....everyone's thinks they're a teacher and precious few have any idea what they're talking about.

Interestingly, the better the player, the less likely they are to give advice, or when they do offer up something, it's usually positive instead of negative.

1.) Leaving the green early - may be appropriate for a foursome that you regularly play with.  But if you don't know the folks - walking off the green when someone else is putting is disrespectful - and can disturb/break their concentration as they are over the putt.

2.) If you don't have a divot tool - use a golf tee.  That's the point.  Don't leave the divot there just because you don't have the appropriate tool.  Ideally, all golfers would be given a divot tool by the course prior to playing... But that's not always the case.  Therefore, if you don't have the proper tool - use a golf tee.

Not really a etiquette thing, but how about learning how to properly fix a ball mark. A tee is NOT a proper tool, and popping the dang thing up from the middle is almost as bad as just leaving it. Erik used to have a good video about how to properly fix a ball mark, but I found this one on Youtube.

Spit your sunflower seeds somewhere - OFF - the green.  It is disgusting to see sunflower seeds on the putting surface.  Goes for cigarettes too.  Discard them in the trash or in your golf cart.  Not on the green or green side.

I played yesterday and found the same brand of cigarette butt in at least 10 bunkers.  Keep your trash to yourself, on the cart until you get to a trash can.  Seems like a no brainer, but I also came across a six inch stogie on the 11th tee box.  SIx feet from a trash can.  Ridiculous.

Trash on the course is a huge problem. What I don't get is who has that much time to mess with crap from tee to green? There's a friggin' trash can on every tee. I'm there to golf not to set the world record for littering.

This is one many people don't do. When you're getting out of a bunker, especially green side, use your club to hit the bottom of your shoes to get the sand off the bottom. I see guys on tour do it but most amateurs do not.

Maybe I am just easy to get along with or hard to disturb but when you are done putting in my group go do something useful don't stand around killing grass watching me putt out.

I though of another one:

When playing with someone for the first time don't say "I never do this" or "I never play this bad" or "I don't know whats wrong with me today" every time you hit a bad shot. I can take one look at your swing and know if you are any good. I don't care if you suck, we have all sucked at one time or another. Lying about how you normally play will not make you play better.

Don't leave the T before the last person hits.  And don't tell the last person to hurry up since you are waiting in the cart while he is hitting.

How about they don't spit them anywhere and just leave them at home.

Not sure I care about a little sand being tracked onto the green as much as I do about them not exiting a bunker on the high side.

If you mean, "don't drive away" then I agree. If you meant, " don't walk off the tee box" (which you probably didn't), some people prefer you weren't there to start with.

Yeah, please don't stand there waiting on me. Just go and be somewhere not in my peripheral vision getting yourself ready to get to the next hole. I don't wear a glove and my bag will be between the hole and the next tee so I'll catch up real quick.

Speaking as the guy who has to clean the cart after your round, please don't use the cart as your ashtray. Throw them in the trash. Nobody wants to pick your cigarette butts out of the cup and ball holders.

Clear the effin' green! Can't stand it when someone in my group stands next to (or on) the green counting their strokes. I'll let you tee off last on every tee if you need the time to calculate your score but PLEASE clear the green!

If you're walking and on the green, drop you bag along the side of the green going towards the next tee. Played many rounds where either we had to wait for the next group to hurry and move on

and one guy dropped his bag far away from the next tee, clean his putter, count his strokes, etc or one of the guys in my group does the same.

I was thinking about this yesterday as I played.  I have a good divot repair tool that also holds my ball marker.  But, I thought about all the times I stood there in the pro shop looking at a mediocre divot repair tool that they were selling for $15.  For their own good they should offer these free along with posting the correct way to use them.
