why did Cabrera have to win

Because he had the lowest score after 72 holes?

Greetings ...

A lot of discussion has focused on Jim Furyk's decision not to lay up on #17. Just about everyone may be quick to forget that Furyk committed a similar boo-boo on the 2nd hole earlier in the round. I'd say he threw away at least two strokes and possibly as many as four strokes on #2 and #17 alone.

Hope you've seen the news photos of Jimbo standing in the background while Cabrera's holding the US Open trophy in the foreground. Nuff Ced.

Just as we can talk about Jim Furyk laying up, we can also talk about Watson's triple which put him out of the lead.

Watson never had the lead on Sunday. Perhaps you mean Baddeley.

Guys, we can sit here and talk about almost everyone doing something stupid out there. Baddeley, Watson, Rose, Stricker, Casey, etc. etc. That's why this is the US Open. I thought Furyk played a great round of golf. Tiger and Furyk really showed why they are #1 and #3 in the world.

why did Cabrera have to win

It was great to see Cabrera win. An ex-caddie from humble beginnings who plays an aggressive flamboyant game and has his own swing.

Better than a middle class college-trained clone anyday, in my opinion. Cabrera had been preparing for this for a few years, with some good performances in big events and good performances in Europe, including the BMW PGA Championship. He won it after being frst round leader and with Tiger and Furyk breathing down his neck in the final round. He deserves it.

Furyk said after the round that all week long he hadn't driven the ball that far on 17 so I think as much as you may think it was a bad decision it was, and I don't completely disagree, the adrenaline kicks in and he drove it further than he expected. Of course he should probably have known to factor that in.

I remember being pretty pumped to see Furyk pulling driver out on 17, I didn't expect it to end with a bogey certainly.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
