Some friends of mine were renovating their basement and purchased about $600 in floating flooring from Home Depot. The day after they bought it the store put the flooring on promotion for 20% off so they went back with their receipt and asked for a discount, the store happily obliged and reimbursed their credit card for 20% of the purchase and provided a new receipt. The store didn't reclaim the original receipt so my friends went to another Home Depot and did it again, again they left with the original receipt. Naturally they drove 45 minutes to the next town over and did it again. Net result: $600 in flooring for $240. Not very honest but I doubt they'll see the gates of hell for it.

Reposted with bold text for clarity. When they told my wife and I this story we just shook our heads, these guys always pull stuff like this. Still think it's kinda funny, shady but funny.

I speak up when a cashier makes a mistake, so I don't find the Home Depot store particularly funny.

Looking back I did actually bring it to the attention of the employee on the floor to help and was curious what was wrong with it. Then he told me the scenario and I scooped it up.

I dont know why he had to honor it but he did. It was also a 250 dollar drive that they paid 150 for.

They paid much less than $150 if they were selling it for that much. They had to make a profit some how. They may or may not have at the $99 price. Who is to know? shrugs

I think I incorrectly assumed they wanted to sell it for $150. It appears (assuming the store was being honest) they bought it for $150 and meant to list it for $250. When the OP found it listed for $99, they tried to up it to $150 so they would at least break even. Had he not bought it, it probably would have gotten a $250 price tag before going back on the shelf.

A few years ago I bought a new acoustic guitar and paid with a debit card, when I got home I noticed the card had been refused (pin error or something) and the guy didn't notice as the store was packed. I went back and sorted it all out with the guy and he gave me 10 packs of free strings. The guy couldn't believe I came back, my friends all thought I was crazy for going back. I believe in doing the right thing.

However, I'll be sure to pass along your disdain to the Home Depot culprits.

Still think it's kinda funny though, wrong but kinda funny.

I have a picture of the 89 dollar 910fd on my phone if it is really a concern. I may be able to find the 910 recipt but I have no need to ever want to return it for 100 if I could trade it in for 150 :) Ill take a look when I get home but when I bought the driver I was in my buddies car so I didnt just throw the recipt in the glovebox like I usually would have.

for pictures of the recipt from yesterday I would have to email the picture to myself right now, save it to my work computer then post it on here. I guess thats not too bad

In your case you simply were the beneficiary of an error by the store. These things happen though less nowadays with electronic inventory control and point of sale systems. The Home Depot story isn't "a little bit shady" it's fraud.

I would have bought the 910f.

But congrats on a deal. Hope the club works for you.

I would have preferred that but I'm on my way to the range right now to see how it performs off the deck. Keep your eyes opened for a "for trade" thread

Definitely. I don't believe I ever implied otherwise.

LOL - thanks for being thorough, but I was 1.) joking and 2.) talking about the Home Depot fraud.

    • Never practiced golf when I was young and the only lesson ever taken was a driver lesson. I feel like I'm improving every year. However, the numbers don't support my feeling about improving. I usually drop to 12-13 during the summer while playing the familiar courses around home and then go on golf trips in the fall to new courses and increase to end the year between 15-17. Been a similar story for a number of years now but hey, it's the best thing there is in life so not too bothered but reaching 9.9 is the objective every year. Maybe a few lessons and practice could help me achieve it since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing, just playing and never practice.
    • I am semi-loyal. Usually buy four dozen of one ball and only play that until out and then determine whether to continue or try another one. Since starting my semi-loyal path to success, I've been playing the below, not in order: ProV1 ProV1x ProV1x left dash AVX Bridgestone BXS Srixon Z-star XV I am not sure if it has helped anything, but it gives a bit of confidence knowing that it at least is not the ball (while using the same one) that gives different results so one thing less to mind about I guess. On the level that I am, not sure whether it makes much difference but will continue since I have to play something so might as well go with the same ball for a number of rounds. Edit: favorite is probably the BXS followed by ProV1/Srixon Z-star XV. Haven't got any numbers to back it up but just by feel.
    • Will not do it by myself, going to the pro shop I usually use after Cristmas for input and actually doing the changes, if any, but wanted to get some thoughts on whether this was worthwhile out of curiosity.
    • In terms of ball striking, not really. Ball striking being how good you are at hitting the center of the clubface with the swing path you want and the loft you want to present at impact.  In terms of getting better launch conditions for the current swing you have, it is debatable.  It depends on how you swing and what your current launch conditions are at. These are fine tuning mechanisms not significant changes. They might not even be the correct fine tuning you need. I would go spend the $100 to $150 dollars in getting a club fitting over potentially wasting money on changes that ChatGPT gave you.  New grips are important. Yes, it can affect swing weight, but it is personal preference. Swing weight is just one component.  Overall weight effects the feel. The type of golf shaft effects the feel of the club in the swing. Swing weight effects the feel. You can add so much extra weight to get the swing weight correct and it will feel completely different because the total weight went up. Imagine swinging a 5lb stick versus a 15lb stick. They could be balanced the same (swing weight), but one will take substantially more effort to move.  I would almost say swing weight is an old school way of fitting clubs. Now, with launch monitors, you could just fit the golfer. You could have two golfers with the same swing speed that want completely different swing weight. It is just personal preference. You can only tell that by swinging a golf club.
    • Thanks for the comments. I fully understand that these changes won't make any big difference compared to getting a flawless swing but looking to give myself the best chance of success at where I am and hopefully lessons will improve the swing along the way. Can these changes make minor improvements to ball striking and misses then that's fine. From what I understood about changing the grips, which is to avoid them slipping in warm and humid conditions, is that it will affect the swing weight since midsize are heavier than regular and so therefore adding weight to the club head would be required to avoid a change of feel in the club compared to before?
