I lump golf balls into 2 categories:

1. Junk balls for wasting (my very loose definition is: Any ball that is not a tour caliber ball)

2. tour caliber balls for normal in-season rounds

I don't count the junk balls, but I always have found 'junk balls' on hand for evening practice rounds or winter play. When my supply dips below 1 dozen 'good balls' , I'll replenish and buy 2 dozen.  You guys spending the $$$ to buy 10-15 dozen at a time crack me up.......LOL

What's in Paul's Bag:
- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Driver
- Big Bertha Alpha 815 3-wood
- Callaway Razr Fit 5-wood
- Callaway Big Bertha 4-5 Rescue Clubs
-- Mizuno Mx-25 six iron-gap wedge
- Mizuno Mp-T4 56degree SW
- Mizuno Mp-T11 60degree SW
- Putter- Ping Cadence Ketsch

Why? Its only money. Theres no reason not to buy 5-6 dozen when there is a great sale.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

If you don't lose balls every round what's the sense in buying this many!!!

All kidding aside, if you get a KILLER sale on balls that are true and tested and you don't plan on changing your golfball any time soon then maybe.  But even then, that's a lot of golf balls to have on hand.

It depends on how often you play.  Even if you don't lose any during a round, most people I know don't use the same ball for an entire round.  My wedges will scuff up a ball pretty badly after 5-6 holes.

At first I thought this thread was about something else, got a killer deal on some srixon zstarx's at GS $19.00 a dozen ....I bought 2 dozen.

I think the most I have ever had on hand is 3 dozen and that was just cause they were on sale.  I don't lose more than what I would normally just toss after a round usually anyway.  I just don't see the point cause I tend to stick with one brand that I get accustomed to that particular year.  Right now I'm trying to decide between the Srixon XV and Nike 20XI so I may be getting two more dozen balls here soon to go with the one dozen I currently have.

Driver: CALLAWAY Diablo Octane 9.5*

Woods: CALLAWAY Diablo Octane 15*

Hybrid: CALLAWAY Diablo Edge 21*

Irons: CLEVELAND TA7 3-PW

Wedges: CLEVELAND 588 51*, 56*, and (60* on standby)

Putter: ODYSSEY DFX 1100 mallet

Bag: NIKE Performance Carry (Lime green/Grey)

Ball: NIKE One Tour D

I have 6-dozen ProV1s that have been given over the past three years by family.

I have almost 2-dozen Hogan Apex Tour balls that I *really like* and that I bought blind online because they were just over $1 ball and I had just set up a 100% Hogan bag.

I've got 1-dozen each of: Bridgestone RXS, Srixon Soft-feel, Wilson Smartcore, and Nike Mojo (half of a 24-box).

...I still *look* at other golf balls, but I kind of need to use the ones I have before buying more.

And my game is such that I don't really notice much of a difference between the balls.  The tour caliber balls help (=exaggerate) my slice.

Do any of the hoarders still have a few dozen Top Flite Z-Balatas or Magna's from the 1990's?  LOL

One nice thing about being a high handicap golfer is when you look for yours you find others. Currently at about 3-4 dozen of slightly used all makes and models. Hitting Sirixon Q Stars yellow love them things hate losing them though it happens often.

That is true, I rarely use the same ball an entire round due to scuff marks, but none the less I still don't need 6 dozen balls on hand.

I used to buy a dozen before each round and I would come home with 3-5 left over that I would throw into a bag in my garage.
The kids have raided my stash bag leaving most of them out in the sun/rain so the dozen or so balls in my bag are all I really have.

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

I think I probably have 4 - 5 dozen onhand, 3 are Bridgestone e6, the rest are single sleeves left from previous boxes or giveaways at outings.  On average I probably lose 1 - 2 balls a round to either the woods or water.  As a high handicapper I felt as though ball make/model/type was less important than price.  Over the past 3 years I have gravitated to sales that were buy 2 get 1 free, like the Nike Power Distance line.  Then Callaway Warbirds, then Callaway Diablos.  This year I thought I would try to focus on a ball that would work with my (ideally improving) swing and commit to it.  So far I really like the e6.

I prefer to play the same ball through a round so I keep a couple sleeves worth loose of what I am playing in my bag, a couple extra sleeves of the same, and then 1 or 2 back up sleeves, just in case.  Probably more balls than I need to take with me, but after almost running out a couple of years ago on a trip with the fellas I tend to overstock my bag now.  Unless I am walking, then I just take 6 balls with me.

I have a couple 5 gallon buckets full to the top, also on that list would be the tour edition or pinnacle 384.

Because if I lose zero balls, I still go through at least 2 a round usually. Its far more foolish to only buy a dozen when you need them, and paying 40+ dollars for them because you absolutely need them, and they arent on sale anywhere.

2 balls per round without any lost balls?  Are you playing balata?

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

I play Penta TP5's and the 20XI, though the Penta is my main ball. Both are notoriously easy to tear up. But I love the penta, its the best I found for my game so far. I could not care less about durability. If I destroyed 4 balls a round, I would still use the Penta TP. Just all around feels great.

I know I can get a full round out of a ProV1, but I have never really liked the Titleist balls, or their feel off anything but wedges.

like I said, everything but my Penta's and ProV1's were gifts. I keep ProV1's on hand, but for the most part, they are my back yard practice ball.

I've got 5 dozen Gamers on hand right now.  I typically put a new sleeve into the bad each time I go, unless there is already a full sleeve in there.  So I've typically got 3-5 new balls in there, and 1-2 junk balls.

I don't pick up anything I find on the course.  I hate when people pick up my strays.

??? why wouldn't you pick up balls you found? And why would you care who picks up your lost balls?

I pick up any mid range and up balls I find, and throw them in the practice pail.

    • A report from day 2 of the event, an unfortunate situation occurred.  One player noticed that one of the other players in his group had what appeared to be stickers on several of his clubs, the ones on the face used with certain launch monitors.  Word got back to the rules staff, and we (surreptitiously) confirmed the presence of the stickers.  Those stickers are "external attachments", and their presence renders a club non-conforming.  If a Player uses a non-conforming club to make a stroke, he is DQ.  That's the easy part, the rule is pretty straightforward.  The tough part, how to handle it.  We considered having a quiet talk with the player while the round was still going on, but decided against it.  We didn't want to DQ a player in the middle of the round, having him walking back to the parking lot on his own, as well as changing the pace and rhythm of the other players in his group.  Instead, the Official in Charge, a young employee of the Middle Atlantic PGA who will be heading up their junior program this year, had a discussion with the player at scoring.  The player took it with good grace, said he never knew they were a problem.  He works with a swing coach, who was the one to help him put the stickers on in the first place, and apparently the coach never told him he needs to take them off.    Ther4e are a few things that a player may do once in his golfing career.  I think failing to identify his ball and consequently playing a Wrong Ball is one of those.  Getting DQ for stickers on a club face is another.
    • Feel ≠ Real. 😁 For someone like me who has a lot of twist and little arm turn down. The feel is absurdly obnoxious. I hate it, but it works. I am sure for those who get a lot of hands down behind them, feeling the elbow a bit more in front of them makes sure they do not get stuck. Maybe better golfers tend to have that motion naturally, I may be able to see how that feel became something.
    • At first glance - option 1 mainly because I’ve never played a dedicated par 3 and 18 holes of par 5’s, well l’m pretty sure  I would be exhausted from playing that length.  I have rarely made the green in two on a five, so not getting there in two is not a sore spot. At second glance, it’s still a par 3 with 6i max.
    • Especially since the lead arm pins more against the chest in the early downswing before it releases down, in a lot of these high level swings.  But there is a difference between this trail elbow positioning: And this one: I wish they went into describing how exactly these two positions are different and why teachers use feels like "trail elbow more in front or under."
    • #2, Golf would get really boring if you only play Par 3's. Par 5s let you have a lot more strategy and design to play with.  Also.. as a short hitter I'm normally laying up on the 2nd shot.
