Birdies?

Same thing happened to me, I holed out from 150 before I ever even got a birdie.  I think this was my 10th round or so.  I birdied not long after that and I remember it clearly still because I hit an 8 iron to about 2 feet and tapped it in for birdie.

I don't remember most my firsts in golf, but this is definitely one I remember. It was our local junior tournament, I was very young, on the par 5 2nd hole. I was 20 yards short of the green in 3. I picked out my spot to land the ball about 5 feet short of the green and above the hole. Executed the shot ****ing perfectly, landed not more than a foot from my spot and the ball rolled out, tracked straight at the pin, and dropped... everyone starts cheering.

me too...I hate par 3's now!  A bad tee shot on a par 5 won't hurt you, a miss on a par 3 and you have to battle to get up and down for par.

Now that I read this I think I actually remember my first too...It was a junior tournament when I was probably 10 or so.  It was on a par 3 that normally would play 200 yards from the white tees with a sand trap protecting the front of the green.  Our tee box was moved up to the ladies tee or possibly coser making it a little under 150.  I remember making a long putt for the birdie.  This is the first birdie I can remember so I'm hoping that was my first one!

I don't remember my first birdie but I will always remember my first eagle(nothing special..it was a short par 5) simply because I was playing with my father.

Too long ago to remember but I still like the feeling of a birdie now. I usually get at least one per round, sometimes 2-3. Unfortunately the bogeys take up the most space on my card.

I agree it's way easier for me to birdie a par 5 as opposed to a par 3. Par 3's are where I hit most of my bogies.

That's how it is for most people...not as easy to recover from a missed shot.

That first birdie felt great a few years ago. But I still have yet to ever get an eagle. Sometimes I feel like it will never happen.

First birdie came like 3 months after I started playing, It was on a par 3 course as well. I remember I think my second came the next time I played on a little executive 9. Now a days. I am happy to get one a round but about a week ago I finished birdie birdie. Man Do they make a huge difference. When you are playing bogie golf for every birdie it is like 2 strokes difference so when I was playing bogie golf that day just two holes changed me from 90 pace to an 86. I played those in the dark too so If I didnt finish I would have expect bogies and not been as happy.

I am still yet to eagle but I think I have decided I am going for par 5s in 2 until I do.

I was with my first wife on our honeymoon on Jekyll Island. I think I'd played maybe three full rounds of golf prior. She said, 'Let's get a cart, you can play, and I can watch!' Whatever. It wasn't even my idea to play. On the third hole, there's a foursome waving us up. I'd never played through anyone, so there was that. I hit my second shot to the fringe and we drove up. I was nervous, but I grabbed my putter and rolled it in for bird. These four older guys got all excited, and one of them said, "Congratulations, young man!" loud enough for my wife to hear. For whatever reason, she thought it was funny as hell. I think I'd only made one or two pars before that. To this day, my daughters will do something special and I'll say, 'Congratulations, young man!', and it always makes me think of that shot.

I don't remember my first birdie. To be honest I don't remember it being a big deal, I knew I needed to make berdies to offset the bogeys I was making in order to shoot even par. I started playing golf at 13 and no one in my family played. My grandpa started playing because I did and we would go play a couple times a month.

I don't even remember how many eagles I have made... though for some reason I remember several eagle putts I missed... most recently I hit driver/3 hybrid on a 5. The 3h 1 hopped onto the green, and rolled 15 feep past, I still don't know how it missed the pin. I missed the put... It was dead straight slightly down hill. I rolled it a foot past.

Reading some of these stories reminds me of a personal story.  My dad and I are both golfers, but my brother is definitely NOT.  He's played possibly 1-2 times in his life, and I was present on one of those occasions!!!   He managed to hack a shot onto a par3 within 10feet from the hole.  We told him.... "hey, you can make your first birdie!!!" ...........Hahahaha......he 4 putted for a 5.

I started trying to learn this game in August 2011.  I didn't actually start playing until November, and my first birdie didn't happen until June.  Then I had three more in July, and four more through the first half of this month.  Pars and birdies are definitely starting to happen a lot more frequently for me than they used to.

Still haven't pulled it off. Only played seriously for 6 months, played off and on for fun for a while but never really put any effort into it until this year.

It will come, I can consistently par 2-3 holes per 9 right now and then have some normal blow up holes associated with a noob but I'll get there.

In one of those "hard to believe it's true" moments, my first birdie was on the very first hole I ever played when I was 12.    The local Parks & Rec department had an intro to golf day for kids where a few knowledgeable adults spent an hour with you on the range teaching you the basics and then take you out on the course in little groups to play 6 holes.    First hole was a little par 3 and I have no idea how long (maybe 120 yds?) and I don't recall what club I hit (probably a 7 or 5 since I didn't have many other clubs then) and I hit a knuckleball a few feet away and made the putt.    The game has been downhill for me ever since!
