I have one of these and I can promise you that it is far and away the best driver I have ever hit. By a million miles.

I also love the look of it. In the flesh they are beautiful.

A friend also bought one and loves it as much as I love mine.

I love that club as well. Looks so antique and just beautiful. Unfortunately I'll never be able to afford one.

If it's good enough for McDowell and Bradley, it's good enough for me.

Anyway - 280 carry is just fine for most courses i Play.

I guess this is why they make more than one driver. I bought the Titleist but thought it was 10 yards shorter than the drivers I had and sold it. The R11S I have I'm really just getting dialed in and starting to hit good. I think the proper shaft selection makes all the difference, 2 people, 2 swings, with the same club will have different results.

The story behind this club. I went to the pro shop about 2 weeks ago to demo 3 woods. One of the guys that works there I see at my home course, he's usually getting there about the time we're finishing, anyway, I ask him if he was buying a 3 wood what would he buy. He said it would be between the new Nike, Adams and the Cleveland. I tried all 3 and the Cleveland was the clear winner for me and bought one. He said while I was paying that if I liked the 3 wood I should try the driver that it was "sneaky long". I tried a couple and they were okay, but I needed to get back to work and really didn't give the driver much though. Then while looking around on ebay there is a seller that has these drivers, all different setups, low starting bids. I had bid on a couple but always got out bid, but there was one that I had bid on that still had several days remaining and had a odd ending time. $100 max bid and $98.01 won the auction. Brand new everything still wrapped in plastic when I received it. For a hundred bucks, can't go wrong.

Yea I know not every driver works for every one. I was being facetious. I didn't care for the R11s myself. Felt horrible. Loved the Cleveland but felt a little light for my tastes and the loss of distance was a deal breaker.

You could say that about almost any popular driver. A few hold their value, but it's not necessarily performance related.

I purchased a 2.5 year old Callaway X-Tour in mint condition (unhit I think) off ebay for $40 and it's a bomber. I don't care for the sound though. My MP600 was a couple years old ($68) when I bought it in mint condition. Absolutely perfect shaft for my swing. It's easily 10 yards shorter than my G10 but alignment is easier, my shot cone is narrower, and it just simply looks better. I personally wouldn't care if I was hitting the ball 20 yards farther with an R11 or an R11s or an RBZ or whatever - I will not put a white driver in my bag. Period.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

Is that a Callaway thing?  I have a Razr Fit and feel exactly the same way.  Otherwise I love the thing.

Hard to say. A couple guys I play with have drivers that sound great and they're Callaways. Older ones I've owned sounded great (like the Hawkeye and BB WB) but new ones are hit or miss because they have so many models and gimmicky features.

FWIW, and more on topic, I've tried to love Cleveland drivers because I love my Launcher 3-wood and a driver is the only thing missing when I put together a Cleveland fanboy bag, but I just simply don't care for them. Not for lack of trying (note: have not hit the new Black - too much moolah for me - got an eye out for used ones but they'll likely be hard to find)

That was where the humor of captain obvious would come in. Funny how you really want a driver and as soon as the price comes down and a few new models come out, you almost have to give away the previously "kick ass" driver.

  • 3 weeks later...

After playing the Mizuno's for about a month I'm starting to question my switch. I'll start off by saying I haven't had time to practice so aside from the range day when I first got them, I've only used them on the course. The first few rounds I really didn't see much fall off of my scores but I'm now starting to see some. The days that my swing is on, no problems, but the days when it's off just a little, these irons aren't forgiving enough to make up for it. I love the way these irons feel and hate to switch back to my Pings (which I did one round last week). I'm going to take the time to hit the range at least twice this week and see how it goes next weekend.

I have the MP-58's and the JPX-825's, both are awesome clubs.  The 825's have a more solid feel, of course they are cast clubs, but they are incredibly soft at the same time.  The 58's are beautiful and very fun to hit.  For my game the 825's are in my bag, but I intend to give the 58's limited use also.  Congrats on the new clubs!

I've heard the 58's were not very forgiving which is something they addressed with the 59's.  Maltby rates the MP-58's at 388, in the "classic" category where as the MP-59's rated a 426 in the "conventional" category.

Based on Maltby ratings, the 58's are harder to hit than the new Mizuno blades (MP-69's) so it makes sense that when you don't get time to practice you see higher scores with them.
