Who makes the best case for my bag? I am using a belding custom bag and i want to use it and wear it out on the course and not in the airport. :) ideas, tips etc? Im going to hawaii this summer for 5 weeks and im stayimg to play. Any tips are appreciated, while i like a good deal, money is not an object. I want to have FUN. I have budgeted $500 just for pro v 1's and i dont care if i lose them all! Lol, i want this to be my best golf trip (and longest) of all time. The bag needs to protect, but i dont want somethimg that will be hard for me to haul around. Ill use a caddy and or cart, but to and from the course, hotel, and airports, im on my own. Ill have my wife, 2 small kids and a ton of junk in tow already. Im taking my clubs and one back pack, ill buy suplies as needed but plan to travel light to offset my families supplies. All opinions are valud and appreciated.

Club glove all the way. I have one and ive let a bunch friends borrow it. I travel a fair amount for weddings and visiting family because im in the military and this thing is great rolls nice and fits clubs with a bunch of cloths. Its a little pricy but for the money there is no better. Highly Recommend .

If money is no object, ClubGlove is the way to go. Second choice would be a Ping travel bag, the one with 4 wheels so you can push it along vertically. I've seen one in the security line where this guy had more luggage than me and I was the one struggling.

I disagree. Here's the one to get:

At $199, I too agree with iacas. This looks a lot easier to sport around the lines at the airport.

PING, great bag, I love the 4 wheels, push it upright with your hand, foot or let your 6 year old  take care of it in the airport. Yes it is that simple to move around. Have used mine seven times in the last three years and still looks new!

I want to offer an alternative suggestion. Are you planning on traveling with your clubs more than one time? Is it just to and from Hawaii that one time? If so I would recommend instead of buying a $200+ club glove or other travel bag, plus having the pain of hauling around the air port, etc. for the one time, ship your clubs, or rent a hard case. Now if you are planning on bringing clubs with you on every plane and you are a frequent flyer; then the suggestions are probably accurate. Just a suggestion.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

If you got the money, then ClubGlider is a very safe bet. I've travelet quite a bit with a pretty simple bag without too much protective stuff. I put a Club Glove Stiff Arm into the bag, put on club gloves, throw some bubble wrap around the clubs to stiffen them up and throw a plastic basket over the clubs. That should protect them pretty well. It's not as good as the more expensive bags, but if you don't travel that often and the airline companies don't treat your baggage as garbage, this method works. I haven't had any troubles so far at least. The ClubGlider does a better job at protecting your bag, not just the clubs. I don't own one myself, but my impression is that they are pretty durable. If you consider that you might be using this travel bag for 10+ years, the extra $100 or so is not really that much. It is definitely more comforting to travel with a good travel bag for your clubs. If you travel very rarely, it might last you a lifetime. ;-)

+1 on this recommendation.

You should really check with the airline.... I ran into the same issue a few years back and once I checked with the airline I was informed that your clubs are not covered unless in a "hard case".  I had a couple of Golf Galaxy coupons so I went and purchased the samsonite hard case.  I have used it about a half dozen times and have no complaints at all.  It's even big enough to fit a lot of clothes as to cut down on luggage costs.  The other bags mentioned are great bags, but you should look into it with the airlines before making a purchase.

club glove is the way to go.

if not, get a hard case, soft travel cases are worthless because it doesn't protect anything..

I have traveled several times with golf clubs using a $40 soft case and never had a problem. Generally what I do is take 2 sweatshirts and wrap them around my graphite shafts. That combined with the protection from my cart bag and a stiff arm it would take abuse above and beyond normal baggage handler abuse to see any damage.

You've been lucky. It's almost as though baggage handlers give more respect to those golf bags that look heavier. The lighter ones seem to be tossed more readily.

If money is no object, Club Glove is the way to go.  But, there are seveal Club Glove "CLONES" out there for about 1/2 the price of the Club Glove and unless you travel many many weeks out of each year are every bit as good as the Club Glove.  Whatever you buy, I would recommend you get the "Stiff Arm" and put in in the bag.

Hard cases offer the most protection of all of them.  I recently gave away 2 of them.  They weigh too much, are difficult to handle, take up too much room and I could never get my weight down under 50# so as to not be charged extra fo the overweight.

Go to Golfsmith or look online at Golfsmith or TGW and find a travel cover that looks just like Club Glove and you will be fine.

I prefer hard cases as well since I can fit some extra golf shirts, shorts, and maybe even a pair of shoes in with the clubs.  I've found that it's much less expensive to ship the clubs in advance using FedEx or UPS Ground than pay the ridiculous rates airlines try to charge for bag over 50 lbs.  The golf bag I use to ship the clubs is an Ogio Chamber which keeps the clubs from moving around or falling out if turned upside down plus a Stiff Arm.  I also put one of those shipping sensors on the bag that lets me know if it was turned completely upside down during shipping.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
