A long-time good senior player. Heck what's Jack Nicklaus' handicap these days? Arnie might be a 15-handicap five-key player. There are going to be outliers - that's all I'm sayin'. :)

Yeah, the sample sizes for those were pretty small. Dave will tell you that when he has Key 5 he will shoot 66, and when he doesn't he'll shoot 71 to 75.

Best without? 19. Best with just one? 11.

Do you mean Key #1 or "the first key" (which is often Key #1)? The first key is the easiest yes, but at the same time once you get Key #1, Key #2 gets easier for some and more difficult for others (ask Zeph), but once you have Keys #1 and #2, Key #3 often falls into place more easily than either #1 or #2. Some also have an easy time with #4, but then get hung up on #5 for the rest of their lives.

That graph could sell more units than all your other advertising combined.

2 keys pretty much guarantees you become one of the best golfers you know!

That's definitely a great way to look at it.  Obviously short game plays a factor into becoming a single digit but the graph is accurate.  If you can consistently do Keys #1 and 2, you're going to hit it pretty good compared to most golfers.  And your misses will be more salvageable than most golfers.  Also if you can do the first two Keys well, then your Key#3 probably isn't that far off.  Would be pretty rare to see a bogey golfer with Keys #1 and 2, excluding senior players and even then :-)

Yeah like Erik said, good senior players, guys that were really good players in the 60's, 70's.  Grew up with a few of those guys, awesome partners in money games.

I do like how the 5 keys are broken down as golf does get too hung up on the technical. I think a lot of the finer details happen as a result of these keys, very easy to understand.

I'm no regular golfer but do practice in my net and garden and the range regulary. I'm assuming that the keys relating to handicap mean you own those keys. I know that 1&2 I can do most of the time. Key 3 is one I struggle with,4 isn't bad either my ballflight tells me that and my mechanics and 5 I haven't even bothered to practice much apart from short game shots where a little bit of invention goes a long way. That's a very high level of golf anyway.

I certainly don't own any key but am close to doing so and if I can play more golf I would improve quite quickly but I'm not even a weekend warrior at the moment, just a bi-monthly player, hence my handicap. I need more time on the course but I feel you could play great golf if you were above 90% on the first 4 keys. Don't know how that would relate to handicap with that percentage but if it's only one poor shot every 10 swings and that poor shot is relative to that level, then as has been summised by Erik it's a low handicap golfer.

Man, I missed this post. Yes, I have a license to scorecard. Had it for 2 years now, love it. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Just looking for some general opinions here:

If one had to choose between buying the 5sk DVDs or spending the equivalent money on three months of evolvr which do you think would be more beneficial? I have very limited funds but I really want to give myself the best opportunity to improve this year.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Do Evolvr.  They will be instructing you with the 5 Simple Keys anyway.  The instruction will be specific to your needs.

If you had to choose one, I agree with spending the money on Evolvr.  Great value for having some really great instructors take a look at your swing, have them identify what Key(s) you need and how to go about it.

Thanks. That's kinda what I was thinking too. I'm guessing that the "my swing videos" from my basement are inadequate for anaylsis. Assuming that's true 'll need to wait another 2-4 weeks before the ranges open

As far as price plans for evolvr, do understand correctly that I can choose the monthly option with no minimum length? IE: I don't need to use it for a year to benefit from the monthly rate? Could I use it for 3 months and cancel without any penalty? I only ask because a big portion of the year is lost to snow and ice and I dont want to be locked into something I can't use.

Thanks.

No, you're not locked in to anything. Cancel after two months if you like.

Let's keep this thread on the topic though, please. Feel free to ask evolvr questions in the evolvr threads or by sending a PM.

    • You’ve yet to propose anything else. And yet it was, and the rules tell you how to deal with it. Your question has been answered. The Committee can declare them GUR. I disagree with your assessment of common sense. 😀 And yet they didn’t really change this one. Looks like this is about wrapped up? “That Rule is So Unfair!” A Rules Geek’s Generalized Guide to Hot Takes and Overreactions | Rules Geeks I apologize for the length of this post. If I had more time I’d have written a shorter one. – Erik J...
    • When you are penalized for hitting into the sand trap the penalty is having to hit it out of the sand, not out of three inches of water. A sand trap is not the same as a water hazard. A sand trap is not supposed to be under water. It is a unique condition caused  by weather and poor drainage. Most local leagues like ours allow the free drop in this type of situation, as long as there is no area in the bunker to legally drop. This is what I’m talking about, sometimes the official rules of golf don’t align with common sense. That’s why they are finally starting to change them. For example, when wind blows your ball off the green. That was a stupid rule. People being able to call the tv network to say they saw a players ball move. That was a stupid rule. I’m just saying, these are rules made up a long time ago, and it’s time to modernize them.
    • Consider it another way: normally, it's a two-stroke penalty to move your ball out of a bunker (unplayable). The ACC reduces it to just one.
    • No, hitting into a hazard that is supposed to be avoided and is designed to be penalizing is not the same as hitting it into the middle of the fairway.   You are penalized because you hit it into a hazard. Based on your logic let's say you hit it into a red staked penalty area and you could normally play it but it's in temporary casual water from rain. Would you expect a free drop from there too??
    • They could have declared it GUR, sure. It is. It's temporary water, and as I said before, an abnormal course condition (ACC). That's what rule 16 is about — ACCs. No, a bunker ≠ the middle of the fairway. You are penalized because you hit it into a bunker. As for the rest… let's stick to the topic. Yep.
