Playing of off a 6, my ball striking is just mediocre. My wedges are my life.....I'd sleep with them if my wife wouldn't pitch such a fit! :-D

Without a decently long drive near the middle the rest it trying to mitigate damage.  Gotta put one out there in the fairway.

I voted for irons by process of elimination and based on the courses I played- while keeping the ball in play off the tee is important to me, I don't always hit a driver.  My chipping was only ok and my putting was below average for most of the season while my iron play was decent for the most part.

Looking the Keystone courses I mainly played, there are not a ton of super tight driving holes (and I tend not to hit driver on the few that are) while precise iron play is important.

I haven't played yet this year, so I am basing this on last season.

I voted Chipping, but that includes pitch shots for me.  I save a ton of strokes and get a lot of one putts getting the ball close.  I pitch more than chip.  My irons are pretty good and my driver is the weak point in my game.

Very true, until a player stops taking penalty strokes and starts hitting greens putting generally is less important.

Looks like most are choosing the part of their game that is their biggest strength.  I basically read the question in the same vein as the other recent thread "What's the shot you hate the most."

My answer in that thread was the tee shot that goes OB causing me to be hitting 3 off the tee.  That hurts my game the most, and therefore that is the shot I hate the most, AND it means, keeping the ball in play off the tee is the most valuable to me.

That is why I chose driver in the poll, even though it is far from my biggest strength.

I voted irons but putting was close for me.

My iron game by far. My home course doesn't require anything over a hybrid off the tee (for me) unless you want to play super aggressive or you're playing the tips. If I didn't make a bit over a third of GIRs and hit most of my fairways, my short game and putting wouldn't save me. I just haven't had it this year. And hitting driver is less accurate and more likely to cost penalties even if you're fairly good most of the time. But a great deal of enjoyment is also there on rounds where you hit good iron shots. Plus it takes the pressure off your game and only requires a few really challenging shots per round to make pars.

Now, if I want to improve my scores, I can improve my putting, short game, and driving in that order. But if I lost my iron game I'd struggle off the tee and be a lot farther from the hole. I don't hit balls OB or into water with irons, and I don't go through sleeves per round because I'm compelled to hit lumber like so many others. You can get around any course with solid irons, and absolutely cruise with really good irons. You also feel more comfortable out there playing from almost any spot when you're hitting the irons well. The putter and driver can turn on you in the middle of a round.

I agree with this ... if we're talking about a pitch and putt course. ;)

I am voting driver, because when it is on, I have GIR shots on every hole. Short game doesnt matter if you are going for the green in GIR +2.
