To tell you the truth I could care less. I dont know much except the winner gets 10 mill. I would've cared if there was a tournament seperate for the top 10 on the list or something like that. But isnt it just winner has the most accumulative points after the playoffs end? I pay attention to money list and world golf ranking more than anything.

What is the FedEx Cup? Does it have any relation to NASCAR's Nextel Cup or whatever it's called?

Seriously, I know little about it, and care even less than that. If that's possible.

I agree that it's not really much of anything exciting. Ultimately it's still the top 125 on the money list that get their exemption for the next season.

I think its pretty awsome, its like a nice finish to the year instead of finishing off with a boring old tournament, it should be exciting.

My sentiments exactly. The way I look at it is that it is still basically the top 125 on the money list, I don't even think the players are really buying into it all that much.

The one thing as a fan that I like is that it should make for better golf after the PGA Championship is over, we shall see. Typically after that last major you can just see the guys all but packing it in for the season, some (Phil Mickelson) make no effort to hide it, they're done til Feb/March.

The whole point system instead of just using the money list seems kind of useless, but the whole playoff aspect (and 10M prize) should prove interesting.

The point system is useless. So Tiger's number one, by a long shot. Say he gets 2,3,5, and 6 in the final four tourneys. I believe, and I could be wrong, as long as those 4 tourneys each have a different winner, he would win the Cup. Is anyone gonna care? I highly doubt it..........people care about who actually wins the tournaments, not some fabricated points race.

Won't the whole "seeding" business make it somewhat more possible for someone else to win? Seeing as how he will only be leading the 2nd place person by 1,000 going into the playoffs?

From wikipedia: After the Wyndham Championship, points for all eligible players are reset. With this scale, the first place regular season points leader will get 100,000 points, second place will receive 99,000, and then a sliding scale through 144th place receiving 84,700 points. The top 144 players will advance to the playoffs. The points on the reset scale will carry over into the playoffs. This is the equivalent of "seeding" as players who have performed better during the regular season will more likely advance past the first tournament in the playoffs.

I guess so. But I'd rather have an end of the season tournament, with only the players who have won a PGA Tour event. I just can't get excited about a points race.

Even if it is not completely biased, I'm still not sure how great it will end up being. Time will tell.

It's really similar to what NASCAR does. The only difference is NASCAR only takes the top 10 in points. Everyone keeps racing the rest of the year, but the points for those top 10 guys determine the Cup winner. Last year, Tony Stewart struggled for part of the season and finished 11th. Durring the remaining races he was the best driver out there and had he qualified would have won the cup. Golf could not take that chance with a low number, because if Tiger was not in contention to win the Cup there would be no interest. The biggest thing is that it could get Tiger to play the last 4 weeks of the season.

I do like that the field gets smaller each week. That way some guy who starts the season well and then slumps to the finish doesn't get rewarded with a birt in the Tour Championship, while some guy who is playing well sits it out because he couldn't play well in February.

I know that a lot of golf people, particularly seasoned fans who have grown to love certain tournaments, etc., think the idea is contrived, hokey, too much like NASCAR, etc.

I understand what they're saying, but I'm not ready to condemn it. I think you have to try it and see what happens.

I think there is the potential for adding a new dimension of interest to the golf season, and I therefore support the FedEx cup.

Maybe they could have called it the "Bobby Jones Cup" sponsored by FedEx, but that's another thread...

I will find some interest in it. I do think it's hokey that essentially Tiger could win the first event and then not play the other 2 and do well in the Tour Championship and win the $10M. I think they should have it so you have to do well to move on like they do, but you can't just take a week off.

As for the 125 comment, this actually makes the top 125 more exciting because they get 144 into the first tourney and you have to play well to make the 120 for the second tourney. There will be a bunch of changes in that 100-144 range those couple weeks and could make or break a guy's chance to stay next year.

My money right now is on Vijay because he'll be in the top 3 and usually finishes strong and can play all the tournaments because he pretty would have anyway. Tiger usually doesn't play that many in a row and will face some mental fatigue and lack of preparation.

I would like to see though everyone in the top 30 that make the Tour Championship have a chance at the $10M instead of Tiger or Vijay winning the first couple and the big prize pretty much coming between the two of them or a couple others.

i would be more interested in it if it wasn't winner take all.

I think they are trying to get some excitement towards the end of the year when most people are turning to football.

We will see how much excitement it gets.

Keep it on the short grass.

Like I said it would be way better if they had the playoffs, at the end of the playoffs the top 10 on the Fed Ex points list get to duke it out in a seperate tournament (being the Fed Ex Champ.) winner takes all.. being 10 mill. Of course there are issues like where to play it and how many rounds, but i think it would provide alot of drama because they're playing for 10 mill. It would be like the super bowl of golf.

It isn't winner take all as someone said earlier, there's money for the top three, and then the usual prize money for the tournament itself.

I'm giving it a chance; Tiger has said this week that it is his intention to play all of the 'playoffs', which most are speculating is pay back for the PGA Tour supporting his own tourney. Phil has said he's in the first and last only, so we'll have to wait and see how the players respond.

I think it's too early to condemn the thing before a full season of it; wait and see how it turns out with the 'playoffs' and then pass judgment on it. Who knows, it could be 4 weeks of great golf.
