My lady friend does not believe that some golf guys use the term "blow the pro" if their drive does not reach the Women's tees. Further, she does not believe that the joking penalty is for the perpetrator to whip out his "guy," walk backwards down the green, in a so-called "trolling" fashion. The final joke is that you have to "Blow the Pro" who is on the desk at the end of the game.

My golf buddies have been using this for years. Can I have some comments? I am representing myself as a "Pro" to her with a 17 handicap.

Traditionally the rest of the hole is played with the short driver's club hanging out of his zipper. And yes your lady friend obviously owes you a favor.

I've heard about having to play out the hole with your business hanging out - I've heard it referred to as playing "dickies". But I've never seen it actually done and definitely never heard of the rest of what you describe.

well basically from the first day i started playing golf years ago, the rule was if you didnt make it past the ladies tee, you had to play the rest of the hole with your pants down....  not whipping out Mr Winky

Of course it is dumb, particularly if you are from Des Moines, Iowa. It never happens de facto. It is a joke, but my question addressed the fact that the "golf slang" exists and the responses you can review will verify the same.

Never heard of the pro bit, it's usually whip it out and hit your next shot.

Not that I've had this issue for some time, but I used to just to up to my ball and hit my second shot.

It was called the Texas Rule when I heard it mentioned, the the blowing was never part of anything.  I heard it mentioned by one guy, once in 40 years.  I've played a few courses where the separation between the tips and and the forward tees was more than 200 yards.  You could hit a decent drive and still not clear the danger zone.  Dumb idea - dumb rule.

Heard of the whip out part, but not the blowing part- nice try, especially if she goes for it.  Do you have her playing the tips?

I've only heard of the Texas rule, strictly whip it out. I don't even know what walking backwards in a trolling fashion means, and I've never heard of the pro getting so intimately involved with the players! I think your lady friend should win this debate, as your variation is not very widespread.

Yes, and Fourputt is the authority on rules in my book. I don't think the USGA is debating this one either!

    • Thank you very much for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it and your willingness to help. I'll be practicing these things and will be bringing a club with me to work as well so that I can work on it a bit throughout the day in the down time.

    • Well, crap.  Last night didn't go well. I actually hit my irons very well. Maybe too well. Flew the over the green on a couple of occasions. So, I got to the course late, therefore no warm up. Right from the car to the teebox. All the gold or yellow tees we normally play were set way back yesterday. We basically played the tips. That seemed kind of odd, but what ever.  Hole 1: Hit a great drive. Left PW to the flag. My shot never left the flag and literally came down on the top of the flag stick. (Which turned out to be a bad thing.) I three putted to bogey. Hole 2: Par 3, played long yesterday (again, from the tips), I hit hybrid off the tee. NGIR bogey on two.  Hole 3: Crushed my drive on the par-5 third. Possibly the longest drive I've hit all year... and it drew. Unfortunately I hit it where there isn't a golf course. Three from the tee, double bogey. Hole 4: I hit a great drive to the center, hit PW to about 10 feet, 2-putted, par. Yay! Hole 5: This was a mess. My tee shot found a tree, I had to punch out, then still had no angle at the green, made a double. Hole 6: Solid drive into a fairway bunker. Advanced it well, but my 3rd was a wedge which I flew long on the par-5 sixth. Fatted a chip, bogey. Hole 7: NGIR on the par 3 from way back at the tips. Chip on, 2-putt boogie. eh? Hole 8: Ugh! ... My approach flew the green and I got "sand-trapped". I tried to get cute out of the bunker, then went bunker to bunker. Made a triple. It was just sad. Hole 9: Played fine, GIR, 2-putt.  So, needless to say it was a bit disappointing.
    • Yes, right (trail) hand. Thanks for the demo.
