Something clicked in my head when I read this. I forgot about the chest down part (we didn't focus on it much in Erie because I kept dipping too low), but I thought about it now and put everything together and realized what I'm trying to do is a hip hinge like I would do when weightlifting. So I started practicing a hip hinge as my transition move. I played on Sunday with that feel and hit the ball pretty solidly, but had some clubface control issues. I practiced today to refine everything:

I think these swings are probably the best ones so far. I learned today that my clubface issues come from the arms lifting too much in the backswing. If I get them too high, the club tips out and I hit too much across the ball with the face open. Big push-fades. Need to keep feeling the left arm stays lower in the backswing, almost too flat - Ben Hogan pane of glass feel.

Bill these were so much better.

I've been really busy, but I finally managed to get out to practice today. First time hitting balls since I played on the 19th.

I had to make a slight change. Feels like I'm staying left at A4, more stacked. Helps with the forward flow stuff and low point control. I was having contact issues last round and I made this adjustment mid-round and it helped me hit the ball more solidly.

The other feels here are laying off the club late in the backswing and firing the left knee outwards (externally rotating the left hip) to start the downswing. I'm still lifting the arms too much but it almost doesn't matter as long as I'm laying the club off right. I don't feel the arms lift up and I don't feel them lowering. Swing feels like I'm loading into the ground left in the late backswing and just rotating through.

I seemed to be mired in what is apparently an annual mid-season golf funk. For whatever reason, it seems every summer I’ll go through a period where I have little desire to do anything golf. Probably a combination of being busier at work and a lack of desire to practice due to being tired, hot, and mosquitoes. f***ing mosquitoes. This year I’ve added on the additional project of cleaning out years of clutter from my house (focused primarily on my garage ATM) which has not only taken up most of my afternoons, but also turned my usual practice area into a staging area for junk waiting to be hauled out for the town to pick up.

I haven’t even touched my clubs in nearly two weeks. I won’t play this weekend either. Busy on Saturday and Sunday there’s rain in the forecast. Not that I’m really interested in going out having not practiced at all in a while.

I’ll get back into it eventually.

I haven’t been playing much either. Too busy with my cottage renovations. I haven’t been able to use my net at the cottage because equipment has been in the way. So my only practice has been short game stuff in the yard.

Also, your garage has an ATM? Cool!😜 I could swing by and help you clean out that!

First swings in a few weeks. They're better than I thought they would be. Seems like the knee stuff is looking pretty decent, but contact way out on the toe. Have to really feel the club laid off or it goes across the line.

I focused today on just making good contact, primarily via club path. Worked on not getting it across the line by reducing the amount of shoulder turn in the backswing, just feeling like I'm pointing my left shoulder at the ball.

Looks really good. Play some golf.

We're running out of time this year, and you'll have all winter to hit balls again. 😄

I actually played a lot this year by my standards. I decided not to play today because it was supposed to rain all day from the storm. Yea that didn't happen.

Haven’t practiced in a while. Got into a little bit of a funk there. Been playing poorly lately; was going to pack away the clubs for the winter but I committed to an outing for some reason so I’m going to make the best of it 😃

First swings weren’t great. Might have figured out the main issue, though. Backswing stuff, inconsistent club head position at transition. Leads to lots of randomness. Started rehearsing A4 and then slowly bringing the club back to the same position, feeling that I’m set there (kind of a pause or slight delay), and then firing hard.

I posted the swings at real speed because I wanted to see the backswing at real speed. Feels slow to me but isn’t, and I’m not surprised there’s no actual pause at transition. Hit the ball really well like this though, which is promising.

I love your swing

Thanks, guys.

I just need to iron out the random chaos. Feels like I’m always one swing away from complete disaster.

Possibly, though I suspect you and I are in completely different leagues in terms of complete disaster.

Everything.

I didn’t post the swings before I started working on stuff. Long, across the line, lots of moving parts.

More of the same stuff today. Hit it solidly. Extended the left knee earlier in these swings.

Here's what I would do if I were you:

  • When the weather is nice, take off until about January.
  • In about January, start with small swings that focus on controlling contact.
    • Start by hitting the ball solidly.
    • Keep hitting it solidly.
    • Lengthen the swing and speed it up so long as you can hit it solidly.
  • When you're up to about 75% speed, start worrying about controlling the face.
    • Mostly horizontally.
    • A bit vertically, too, in case you find yourself de-lofting too much.

Chip and putt a bit, too, but those have been better.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
