I was playing a scramble at a course once and a guy had his own leaf blower. so a rake should be a no brainer lol

Use the back of your SW w/ a side-to-side sweeping sort of motion. Takes a bit of practice. Used to do that all the time before the current vogue to have rakes everywhere and it works pretty well. If it's not quite as pristine a finish as a rake would give....well, it is a hazard after all. I'll get my coat...

Let's look closer at the question.  If all courses did not provide rakes and it was considered proper etiquette to rake after playing from a sand bunker, I suspect everyone would bring a rake, possibly a little folding tool.  If a single course did not provide rakes, I expect most everyone would avoid that course.

Frankly, after 11/1 in SE Michigan a lot of courses remove the rakes (along with ball washers, tee markers, etc...).  In this minimalist environment, I do not drag along a rake.  I do scuff my feet and fill in foot prints and large gouges as best I can.  I believe Pine Valley does not rake any of their bunkers but I will likely never get a chance to personally vouch for that piece of info.

Actually, a course here in northern Illinois, that we used to play every Sunday morning, had a rake in every cart. The nice thing was you walked to your ball with the rake ready to use, rather than walking  around the hazard to get one. Invariably, a lot of times there is one rake on the farthest end from your ball. Time and effort are needlessly spent retrieving it, walking back and raking. I think a lot of traps aren't raked for this reason.

The supplied rake in the cart speeds up the round, and has more of an incentive to rake the trap. No unnecessary extra effort.

Years ago, most courses didn't have rakes. You were taught to smooth the sand with the back of your club (as above) and smooth your footprints as you exited the trap. In many old golf videos you can see that the sand was never raked perfectly smooth. You could never expect a trap to be a perfectly level sand surface, and made it more important to avoid them at all costs.

Where i often play no rakes at all on the course and plenty of sand  bunkers.  But you must hire a caddy and she carries a rake and does all the work.  Sexest?  Absolutely and she loves it.

Yes that would be a start. Most don't know how to use a rake either. We get the combo here greens full of holes and trampled bunkers. The icing on the cake is the sand they spray all over the green trying to get out. Nothing makes me happier than putting over craters, pebbles and granules. If I start carrying anything extra it's going to be a leaf blower.
