And Taylormade does is again. Year after year, another new driver was unveiled and this time it's called the Jetspeed that may replace the RBZ Stage 2 line up. They put in a more pronounced "speed slot" compared to the SLDR for this line that say will decrease the spin compared to the RBZ.

I'm still having trouble believing that they'll actually release this. Not that I think it's a bad driver or anything, but the frequency at which they release new woods is ridiculous.

Ryan

I saw this and clicked on it to see the joke. When I saw the picture and realized this is real and I almost cryed laughing.

I thought the same when they announced the "Rocketballz" line of driver. So seeing the name "Jetspeed" isn't surprising, but doesn't stop it from sounding completely stupid.

I can't even keep all the models straight anymore. My local golfsmith sells about 4 or 5 different TM drivers still.

That could be TM's marketing design: To saturate the golf shop space with as many TM models as they can. Considering how much they've released so far, it's probably a pressure to the R&D; by marketing to release the "newest" gimmick to the masses.

Ryan

Looks like they're trying to beat Alien Golf and Orlimar to the punch by releasing their own knockoffs but with a quicker turnaround.

Next up... RocketSpeedz.  Or JetBallz.  Or JetBladez.  The possibilities are endless.

The new JetSpeed line of woods (driver, fairway woods, hybrids) from TaylorMade will replace the existing RBZ Stage 2 woods in December. The JetSpeed ($299) is the first driver to feature TaylorMade's Speed Pocket technology, which is aimed at reducing spin and increasing speed and distance on shots struck low on the clubface. In addition a low, forward CG location produces significantly faster ballspeeds than RBZ and RBZ Stage 2 drivers on shots struck 1/2" high or low on the face. A twelve-position loft sleeve allows for full adjustability while a 46" lightweight shaft (49g) further contributes to increased clubhead speed and overall distance.

JetSpeed fairway woods ($229) also feature Speed Pocket technology to produce greater clubface flexibility and faster ballspeeds. Considered by TaylorMade reps to be "the longest, most playable fairway woods ever," JetSpeed fairways will be available in 15-, 17-, 19-, 21-, and 23-degree models but will not offer hosel adjustability.

JetSpeed hybrids ($199) feature many of the same design elements as the fairway woods and will be available in 16-, 19-, 22-, 25-, and 28-degree models.

It will probably be called "RocketJetBaldezTour Preferred. "

If they are supposedly increasing speed, why would you pick a name that's slower than a rocket? I thought a rocket > jet? Should have called is "Lightspeed" and then people will start calling it their "Light Saber" and then Disney will find out and file a "TM" infringement lawsuit.

I was thinking the same thing. I also find it hard to buy TM products knowing something new is going to be released in the very near future.

Also, a lot of their technology is recycled and refined technology from other club makers. I think their speed slot is an adaptation from Adam's Tight Lies wood and/or Nike's Compression Channel. Their sliding weight is refined from the Mizuno MP630 driver.  I feel like they look at other club maker's adapted ideas and find ways to make it better. I don't think TM's R&D; department revolutionizes - they glorify.

    • I have an update… I don't have much of a response, because the fact that they would ADD the numbers for the lead and trail shoulder together… I mean, wow. I was giving them too much credit. Nobody would think to assume they were doing THAT. That's beyond comical. One of the biomechanists I talked to put it this way: "So if I squatted down and went from 180 to 90 deg knee angle, then I would say 180 deg range of motion because I have two knees?" I'd type more (maybe), but honestly, I'm laughing a bit too hard. 🤣 Update: Mini Manavian blocked me on Instagram, so I cannot see his post showing Bryson with about 50° of range of motion (with a driver) from P4 to P7, and 75° only if you go out to the mid-follow-through. What a terrible loss for me. 😉
    • Thanks, interesting to read. The swing is definitely very timing dependent. I hit it consistently I guess but consistently bad.
    • I've shot 91-74 on the same day before. Couple of years ago played a two round tournament on Bethpage Black. I shot 72 in the first round and 90 in the second. First round I played very well. Second round I played okay, but had about 5 shots that hit the lips of bunkers and bounced down into them. A couple of those wound up in footprints - I was unamused - and I failed to get them out. Anyway - lots of bunkers and my bunker play isn't great and then add a couple of footprints and me getting pretty tired and it added up to a lot.  Only you can really tell though what's causing the variance. It might be that your swing is very timing dependent and when it's timed well you play well and when it's not then it goes all over the place. In that case, some lessons and working on your swing could be the key. If it's more that you tend to feel like you hit it fairly consistently, but you have days where the shots come off and days where they don't, then that's more likely a course management issue. If that's what you need to work on, then you could read Lowest Score Wins and build a plan of attack based on that.  Rest assured though that a pretty big range from high to low is fairly common. Even PGA Tour players often have 18-20 shot spreads from best to worst rounds in a season. It's a common affliction among golfers.
