Read inferno a couple of months ago. What''d you think?[/quote] I always enjoy Dan Brown's ability to extract a plausible a story out of art. The amount of research he must do for his books blows my mind. Other than that the concept is very similar to his other Robert Langdon books... Smart professor must solve a mystery and gets help from a good looking, above average intelligent, woman who happens to know all the links he's missing. But I liked it overall, the only thing I disliked was the ending. SPOILER DON'T READ IF YOU PLAN TO READ INFERNO. At the end the entire plot and actions of the characters didn't affect the outcome at all. And that bothered me a bit. What did you think of it?

I liked it for the most part. It's a well-plotted, interesting mystery story. But the dude is a terrible "writer". Like his prose is really mediocre. But he's an incredible story-teller; I've read all of his books pretty much and I keep coming back.

Just re-read the historical novel "The Killer Angels" by Michael Shaara. Great telling of the battle of Gettysburg that won the 1986 Pulitzer for fiction. Maybe the best book I've ever read.

I am just finishing A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving  Excellent.  My wife read it years ago and spoiled the ending, but I still wanted to read it.  She also spoiled Citizen Kane , the movie.

Still working on the "Wheel of Time" series.  Slow going now that the weather is nice, and I am finding it difficult to find time to read.

Hopefull soon I will be reading "Lowest Score Wins"!!!!!!!  The long awaited book written by the two Polish guys?  Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

The only bad thing about my Kindle and this book is I don't know how long the book is.  I keep thinking I am getting close to the end, but it keeps going.  It is very, very good, but at least with a paper book you have a decent idea how much is left.  I have an early Kindle that doesn't have the page feature.

I'm between books right now and seriously considering reading this again, even though I've read it at least 4 times already.  The first line is absolutely stunning.

It just doesn't get better than that. Total heavyweight of an author. Love his work.

I'm a big fan of Stephen King and has decided to start from the beginning. Just finished Carrie and Salem's Lot is next up.

After that it's The Shining. King was famously very upset with the movie adaptation of that book. I've seen the movie and it has a good mood, but it felt a bit like many other adaptations from books. There are stuff happening, but you don't really know why and how it got there. There is a lack of steady progress that lead to certain events. Instead, they pick these events out and line them up. King's books aren't action packed and easily transferred to the big screen. There are a lot of focus on dialogue, thoughts and reflections.

I really like Stephen King as well.  Have you read the Dark Tower series?  I think it is possibly the best fantasy series out there.

The Dark Tower series was great! I read a lot of Stephen King in my 20's. Most of them were great. My favorite, though, was The Bachman Books. It was a compilation of four short novels that were all very good. The Long Walk is still one of my favorites.

Yep. The Gunslinger was my first SK book. It was slow going at the start. I spent forever finishing that book, but once I finished it, I wanted more. After that, I read all the books in the series, including The Wind Through The Keyhole when it was released.

The Dark Tower is definitely my favorite book series. Lots of emotions while reading those books. I also enjoyed Lisey's Story very much.

I did not read The Wind Through the Keyhole.  I will have to.

Just finished "Going Clear", an exposé of Scientology by Lawrence Wright, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of "The Looming Tower" (the definitive book about the genesis of Al Qaeda). Good, quick read.

I don't know how they get away with being designated a religion. L Ron Hubbard was a con man extraordinaire and the abuse they heap on people is unconscionable. Tom Cruise is a dupe in one regard, but gets them to be a pimp for him in another. The whole Hollywood connection is very weird and goes very deep in the culture.

Looks like I will be another that tries to get into the Wheel of Time stories..... sounds like you have enjoyed it. The George Martin books where my first fantasy/fictional books I had read, and even though around book 3 he started to aggravate me, they were interesting and the build up of another world was essentially amazing.

Its not the dreams in the recesses of you mind, its the approach and how you go at it Roddy
