Ogio vs Sun Mountain

Which manufacturer do you prefer when it comes to cart bags and why? I've always been an Ogio man but a playing partner rocks a pretty nice SM C-130.

Just bought a 2014 Sun Mountain Sync cart bag.  Today was my first round using it, and so far it is great.  Much better than my other bags I have had in the past.

I like Ogio bags. The zipper broke with in the first 10 days of my only sun mountain bag I owned. Never had problems with Ogio, and I like they way they set up their dividers.

Yeah I've got the Ogio light weigt black and white and it is sweet. great pockets, full length deviders and 10 way top...a sweet bag.

I used to have a Sun Mountain/Titleist Lightweight Stand Bag. After a few months the legs got permanently crossed to the point where I manually let them down/out every time. After another year the strap tore where it attaches to the bag. Now I have an Ogio Grom. It has a similar problem with the legs being crosses, but I like it otherwise. If I were to buy a new one I'd probably go with a Titleist/Sun Mountain, just because I don't love any of Ogio's current offerings.

Actually Ogoios new White Charcoal and Zig Pin line of bags look pretty gangster. That's if you want to dump 3 bills into a golf bag. I have the aquatech Ogio cart I use for tournaments but the light weight 01 for Sundays and casual rds. Ogio has always been my preference.

I've only had one Ogio bag, and it was one of their cheaper ones, the Vaporlite. It was a good bag and even after a couple years of use was in good shape. Some issues with the legs but nothing major. I gave it (along with some clubs) to my brother and he still uses it. On the other hand, I've had a few different Sun Mountain bags. The first was the Titleist 14-way stand bag which I loved. Unfortunately it was stolen; I replaced it with essentially the same thing, a Sun Mountain Four 5. Other than the logos on the bag and a different strap system, it was identical to the Titleist. I very much liked that bag and still have it. Recently I decided to get a cart bag because nearly all of my rounds are riding (very few courses in my area even allow walking) and I got a Sun Mountain Tour Series Cart bag. This bag is basically a staff bag that fits well on a cart. I love the way it looks, it's fairly light weight, and has tons of storage. For the few rounds I do walk, I can always just use the Four 5 or use a push cart.

Anyways, between the two, I'd go for Sun Mountain. Like I said, the Ogio bag I had was good quality and was a good bag overall, but I've had really good experiences with my Sun Mountain bags. On top of that, there really isn't anything in the Ogio line that I really like the looks of.

Based on positive experiences, I now only purchase Ogio bags.  The Ogio Chamber and Grom XX are two of the best bags in the industry imo.  The Chamber eliminates the need for covers on any club during a round as the bag holds the clubs securely to avoid bag chatter.  Similar concept to the Bag Boy Revolver but I like the pockets better on the Chamber and it takes up less space.

I've had a couple of Ogio bags break The leg stand. The wind also seem to blow these bags over fairly easily. I've owned Sunmountain bags over the last 12 years, cart and carry, and have been very happy with all of them.

The seams of my Ogio separated while it was still pretty new. I fixed it, but I'll be looking at a different brand for my next bag.

Ogio uses superior hardware and material IMO. While I lik the SM c-130 it is no match for my aquatech.

Reluctant to admit but i bought my Ogio at a thrift shop years ago.  It was mighty cheap because the legs were gone. No problem for me as i do not carry the bag on the course. Also i swapped out the big double straps and installed a simple single one, coz i only carry short distances. I also installed a new top cover which has worked out great. So am very happy with Ogio. Materials, workmanship, dividers, pockets, color, zippers, all good.

Well, not on their carry bags. Their legs tend to fall apart. I have an old (2007) SM Cart Bag that hangs around my garage. I rarely use a cart bag.

I take my near 2 year old Grom XX to the range almost every day (March - November) and the legs are like new.  I don't doubt you've had some issue but maybe it's isolated to that model or particular unit.  Downside to Ogio is they make bags ranging in price from $79 - $350 so I'm sure they sacrifice some quality in their cheaper models which probably hurts their brand.

I think SM makes great bags too, I have a C-130 and had a Titleist cart bag (made my SM) that I like but I prefer the design features of the higher end Ogio bags more, especially their Chamber bag with Silencer technology.

It's different strokes - the legs separated from one of its lighter weight bags - it would be comparable to the SM 3.5 DLX, but slightly heavier. I remember similar comments from others on forums. But it was over 5 years ago, so they may have improved the bag. It was my son's bags. Oggio legs had issues.

My issue with SM Carry Bags, about 7 years ago was only one zipper - so when you carried, it was tough to close that zipper as you walked. I voiced my concern to SM, and they heard me - the next year it was changed to double zippers - so I carry some considerable weight with SM - lol. But the goofs did not send me a new bag to say "thank you." Not feeling the bag love....
