Follow up from Sunday, Adam shot a 123 at Santa Anita Sunday, being 6'4"and renting clubs I am sure did not help any. In two weeks when he is back from NY we will be taking him down to get his first set of used clubs and have then extended.

With the course very empty yesterday morning we helped him with putting, ball placement as well as what club to use. This was a little challenging since we did not know how far he could hit each club so we used a general distance.

Still he had a good time and counted every stroke, fun part was seeing him on many of the par 4's in 3.

Just a short update, we played at Fullerton Sunday, Adam still had to rent clubs but I have been letting him use my Driver.

He shot a legitΒ  count every drop, shot, out of bounds 113.

Adam is the one putting.

Had a set back when target 1 moved, but I got another target. We're going to range session number one on Wednesday.

Forgot to mention that I took out a Father and son (11 year old) plus another kid. They're hooked.

My son took out one more kid for a 4th. His friend and his father might go with us more often, so we had two dromant golfers who will probably go more often too!

I got three more than anticipated. Two more possibilities to go. . .

Adding another to my "Create a Golfer" total.

Brother in law, just finished his freshman year of college, approached me last weekend and asked if I would teach him. He is an engineering major and figures knowing his way around the golf course will help him professionally.

We went out last night and played 9 holes, he loved it. By the 6th hole, he was hitting the ball in the air and he hit a "bomb" on 9 that would have been great, if it had only not sliced 300 yards!

I think he is hooked.

I did notice one thing, we play out of a private club, and I pay the full guest fee for him. I do it because I support the club, but it got me to thinking. Most new golfers spend 1/2 the time picking up and playing "scramble" golf, would it make sense for course operators to offer some pricing help for new golfers? I would think charging them a lower price would encourage people to bring someone if they didn't have to pay the same price as they did for the golfer who would "appreciate" it more.

I did get my guy out for a bucket before the mother of all thunderstorms hit. He did ok for having never swung a club. Popped a few out around 150 (with the driver) and actually hit em fairly straight.Better than the massive slices I was dealing on my first visit.

Down side was that he gave me the distinct impression that he isn't looking to spend any money at all. That was something that I hadn't previously picked up from him. I paid for the balls. I guess we'll have to see if he ever pays for his own.

Took a new golfer to visit my instructor today ... looks like they may strike a deal. Β I am going to bring him some clubs tomorrow ... I have my fingers crossed he follows through.

I'm taking two new golfers out this Sunday. The plan is to have them hitting the ball well enough come October (around 28 handicap) that they can come on the annual boys golf weekend and feel part of the fun and that they can contribute to their team scores.

We've all been to the range together and they have both had two half hour "golf basics" lesson, running through grip, stance and swing basics. I'm guestimating something in the 120-130 region. We've booked a slot late afternoon when the course is empty so hopefully the lack of pressure from other players around will help them settle in and enjoy the round.

Hi, My name is Matt.

After several range trips, today I took person one to the Roger Dunn; she now has her first golf top (dri-fit type material). We looked briefly at clubs, too: she wants an 8-iron before we go to the par-3 course, but none available except in sets (she has a GW, 6-iron, 5W, and putter).

First round has been completed successfully, the guys hit in the region of 120, I say the region since we played all missing balls as laterals so that they always felt like they were progressing rather than pumping off the tee time and again. I figured give them a handful of 'easy' rounds ruleswise before jumping on like I normally would them and getting 3 off the tee etc.

They are both already booking in a follow up round later in the month, so must have been a success, in all honesty I think I found it more mentally draining than they did, trying to keep two other people's spirits up with the ball flying all over the place is more tiring than I thought it would be!

Hi, My name is Matt.

I think I may have created a monster.

Wife and brother-in-law both had to ask to be play yesterday. It was hot and I was tired, but I sacrificed and took them out. It was alot of fun, but I agree with the above who finds it more mentally draining to keep peoples spirits up....I however, have to consistently come up with new insults when my brother-in-law hits it sideways. Its in good fun and he is loving it.

I have created a golfer!!Β  (I think--assuming it sticks.)

A guy in my class group here at Augusta.Β  I became notorious in the group as the guy who plays golf several times per week.Β  He and I were talking and he mentioned that he played a bit in HS and after college (played college baseball), but had only participated in a few office scrambles over the last 10+ years.Β  I asked him to come play with me, and he agreed.Β  Since then, we've played once a week together for the last six weeks or so.Β  He's now asking me when I can go play.

Yesterday we played a nice annual-fee club a mile from his house.Β  He loved the course and club.Β  He's going to talk to his wife about joining.

We're going to get four more rounds in before we go our separate ways, but he's hooked.Β  If he joins the club (we're playing there again tomorrow), then he's a goner for sure.

Got my son signed up for a junior golf league and he is really excited. I think he is officially on his way to being a golfer.

Took my 6 year old boy golfing last weekend.Β  He loved it.Β  He has been talking all week about going this weekend again.Β  He is asking me to be his teacher(which is not a good idea :) ).Β  I told him that I will give him a couple tips but that we just want to have fun.Β  I look forward to golfing with him againΒ this weekend very much.

It wasn't either of the first two targets I had in mind, but my brother and I got a new golfer out yesterday.

It was a female co-worker ofΒ my bruv's and she rather surprised us with how well she did. We told her not to worry about the scoring and just try to hit the ball. Sure she had her share of mishits, but she also caught a few really nice. One drive went 200, found the right side of theΒ fairwayΒ and was only 10 yards behind mine. She also knocked a 5-wood the better part of 180 yards and nearly reached the green in two on another. She caused no issues what-so-ever with pace of play in spite of the total number of strokes. Best of all, she enjoyed herself. I think we might have one here.

My original new golf buddy got a new job so he is out. Β My friend Jay joined my for a range session a month or so ago and he has been enjoying it. Β He also ended up getting a job though so he can't put as much time in as he wanted but we are going back to the range tomorrow and we are going to get on a course before June is over.

I wanted to take part in this but I don't have any friends who have the time or money to take up golf :surrender:

After about a dozen trips to the range since February, we went to a nearby par-3 course today for nine holes (all par-3). I shot a 30, she shot 43, which included two pars (an up and down from 35 yards or so at #5, then her first GIR at #9 and two putts). I had a 4' and a 6' par putt on those two holes after she made her par to keep from losing the hole. No truly awful shots from her (or from me, for that matter), and she's eager to go play an executive course now. We'll probably play one in the vicinity in the next 2-3 weeks. She'll also get a full set of irons (instead of just her gap wedge, her 5W, my old 8-iron, an old demo graphite 6-iron, and a putter).
