Not many people keep track of football outside of Division 1 FBS.

There is a little known powerhouse from Ohio known as Mount Union.

They have 11 national titles; 1993, 1996-1998, 2000-2002, 2005-2006, 2008, 2012

They have 26 conference titles, currently 23 straight, 1992-2014

They will once again go up against Wisconsin-Whitewater for the DIII Championship. This will be their 8 meeting in the last 9 years. With Whitewater leading that series 5-4.

Kinda crazy that two teams have dominated the past 10 years or so! :bugout:

Not far away from my old stomping grounds in Massillon

Lots of good Ohio guys go to Mt. Union, but it's interesting how many guys they pull in from far off. You'll see guys from Florida and Texas on that roster.

The QB is from Cleveland St. Ed's (this year's Div I champ) and has thrown for over 4,000 yards.

Curious how they do this. No scholarships for DIII, correct? So, they just happen to get superstar walk-ons every year for 20 years? Weird.

True, there are no scholarships. No clue why they dominated. They were crazy good. In the last 16 seasons they have nine losses. They have not lost a conference game in at least the past 16 seasons. They only have 2200 undergraduates. Not really a big school. I would say it is because they get a lot of Ohio talents who were just too short or just a bit too slow for FBS or FCS schools. Ohio is still the premiere football state for high school football in the Midwest. I would say it is just the number of quality players plus the program's tradition.

Yeah, it's kind of a joke. My freshman year I got into a spat with my roommate and voluntarily moved to "Park" Hall, third floor. Bunch of football players. Half of them had "scholarships" of some sort, while basically majoring in the high school equivalent of "shop class."

Heh I can only imagine your brain on the jocks hall. That was probably funny. Of course I did duty with a golfer who was also into high speed photography and pipe bombs. He didnt make it all the way.

It may not get the publicity of Texas, Florida or California, but Ohio, and NE Ohio in particular, is very serious about football. I've seen scads of guys that were tremendous players at the high school level and just didn't fit the Division I model. Mount Union is where a lot of their players go.

A handful of guys have gone on to the NFL from Mount. Pierre Garcon is probably the best known.

My Favorite tackle of the year for Ohio State

GIF: Joey Bosa's walk-off sack against Penn State

Overtime versus Ohio State. The Penn State's Offensive L ine had a busted coverage. Bosa was suppose to do a stunt inside to free up Bennett number 63, who was to loop around him. When Bosa stunted no one was blocking him. So he decided to just rush Hackenberg. Well Penn State's Running Back decided to pick up Bosa and try to block him.

Lets just say that when you have 280 lbs of freakish athleticism meeting a 215 Running Back the Running Back gets the assist on the sack :-D . Nothing like seeing a D-Lineman use a Running Back as a weapon to sack a QB ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The back was certainly too high and never had leverage. His Fu was not strong. Bama wont block that high.

Never said they wouldn't. I am just a fan of D-lineman using an offensive player as a weapon. :-D

You mean this! :-D

It is going to be one heck of a game. Both teams have a TON of talent on the field. Alabama with their number 1 classes, but Ohio State is no slouch with their top 7 classes the last 4 years, I believe 2 or 3 of them are top 5. So yea, lots of talent, two of the best coaches in the past 10 years, tons of tradition. Is it January 1st yet

I just read that Bama has only allowed 3 rushing touchdowns this season. Now I wish I had seen all the games.

Do you think that since General George Armstrong Custer was from Ohio it will effect the Buckeyes? I ask that because of a Buckeye quarterback by the name of Art Schlichter who had some problems also. I am not so sure about that area. There are 5 Bama players on the Bengals team and they still only just made it to the playoffs.

I'd hazard a guess that fewer than 20% of this year's Buckeyes know who Custer was.

Schlister certainly has had a lot of problems, but I wasn't aware that he had been killed by Indians or by the Tide. As far as I'm aware, he's safe and sound in prison.

As far as the Bengals go, they'd do better with those Alabama guys if Saban hadn't taken the best out of them during their college days.

Nope, not at all.

William Tecumseh Sherman was born in Lancaster Ohio and he burned Alabama with this scorched earth warfare during the civil war.

Ok

    • Well, I have a 2 hybrid, 4 hybrid and then play 6 iron onwards.  My best clubs are probably the 4 hybrid and the PW.  What I find is that loft is your friend in general which is why my 4 hybrid is so much better than my 2 hybrid.  Definitely disproportionately more so than the 5 or so degrees of difference in loft.  If you have hybrids, play them.  And consider loft as your friend.  Invariably you will get up to a loft where anything less will not get you more distance because of your club head speed.  Essentially the faster you swing the less lofted a club you can hit effectively.  For me it is probably a 4 hybrid and maybe a 7 iron though I could improve both with practice
    • Off to my home state of Massachusetts this morning. 9 this afternoon,  18 tomorrow,  and 18 on Saturday. Hoping for some good scores but will be just happy playing with good friends.
