I've been Playing Golf for: 30+ years casually off and on

My current handicap index or average score is: figure 25-30 over par so far

My typical ball flight is: variable, worst case is slice or straight push

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is:  working on the driver first

Background: every course I've played more than 20-30 times will show a par or better on every hole eventually, just never in the same round. Most penalties and extra strokes have come from banana balls, water, woods, duffs, wiffs, mishits, dribbles, bobbles, and just general inconsistencies. I"ve always been better with the irons, even long irons up to the 1-iron, woods and especially the driver have always been my biggest downfall. I have had times on the range where I could somehow get the driver dialed in, but it hasn't stuck.

Today: I want to finally get consistent and to build a good driver swing, then I'll work on other stuff after that.  I just picked up a new 3-wood that felt really good at the shop where I bought it, first wood I've ever hit that felt that good.  I'm probably going to pick up a new driver soon as well, and my goal this year (assuming I can get out to play and practice enough) is to break into the low 80's for scoring with at least one sub-80 round.  I'm confident that by fixing my drive and reducing my errors that this is a workable goal.

Now, for the video, all I have currently is one bad video from 2010, not great but shows me then in beast mode, or as I called it at the time my caveman swing. (I know I posted it several years ago, but I forget what site that was on.)

I also saw a drill that mvmac posted that I want to try out this week.

Blackberry Curve phone leaning up against a rock on the ground on a windy day. 8)

I'll work on getting better video uploaded, looks like I can upload to youtube and link from there (unless there is a better/cleaner method). I'm thinking of tripod mounting my Canon 60 and using that, but the video file will be huge unless I can downgrade the recording (I haven't messed with the video in that camera much yet).

Got to a local to work range today and hit a bucket, a little windy out so hopefully these will work for viewing so far.

Most of the shots went either straight or slightly right, some had a fade to the right as well, a few went straight left, with one or three worm burners. But most went acceptably downrange.  Distance I still need to work on.

This one posted for fun because the wind pivoted the phone on the stick just as I finished my swing and it looks like someone was holding the phone and was following the ball.

(also, subnote, even though I've lost 30 pounds in the last two years it looks like I could lose another 20-30, but that is a subject for a different thread. Video just makes one aware of stuff.)

That is awesome! That is something to be very proud of! :dance: I'm not sure if the saying about TV making it look like you're heavier applies to video, but it might. I also thought I looked heavier on my YouTube clips.

Thanks. My weight and conditioning, much like my golf game and swing, are a work in progress.

Work on key #1. You sway a fair amount off the ball in the back swing. Get those feet flared out a bit as shown in the video and work on this.

Yep agree, turn both those feet out and feel like as the hips turn they go towards the target on the backswing.

Bad day on the range. Went to the range today at lunchtime, a bit windy out. Tried to point my feet outward and it felt like a duck. Driver, hybrid, 4iron, 5iron, 6iron all went an average of 150yards each, 3wood went farther, 7iron and shorter went shorter, heel shots, toe hits, some balls went straight, some left, some right, some right with a curve. I did better when I turned my feet back parallel, went wacky when I tried to turn them more outward. Mostly I was working on trying to keep my head more stable and to reduce or eliminate the swaying, but probably not a good idea on a windy gusty day while hitting off a rubber mat.

Oh well, back at it another day, today is done like water off a duck's back.

This is most likely due to the fact that your body is trying to adjust to the new backswing with your feet turned out. Remember that you had a hip sway to the back and then your body makes timing adjustments and compensations to get the clan back to the ball, so when you turned your feet out and started taking backswings you were probably not in the top of the backswing position your body is used to, so it wasn't able to make the correct compensations to get the club back to the ball.. This is natural when you try something new, trust me I know.. I've lived it and I am just starting to make consistent contact 3 months into my lessons (with more changes coming) so keep at it even of you don't see the results as these guys know what they are talking about, trust me what ever you do dont turn your feet back to how they were!

Yeah, I just almost wanted to laugh about it today, it was almost like that 150yard marker had a force field around it. Time for some dry swings and air golf in slow motion to sort some of this out.
