"Lowest Score Wins" by Barzeski and Wedzik

One (slight) aside: personally, as a self-professed "stats geek", I thought that Every Shot Counts was a perfect companion text...after reading LSW, I went back and read it again (I had read it when it first came out), and the two complement each other very well.

Agreed. I have toyed with analyzing my game via homegrown spreadsheets using both methodologies and I think they indeed complement each other.

It depends on how quickly we ship them out.

Tomorrow I should ship out the next batch.

Just finished the shot zone & decision map sections.  They are something I already understand (from other golf books) and need to do but I simply don't have discipline to stick to it in the course of a round.   I will give it a shot in this weekend's round.   This means I won't be using much of my driver, and will be laying up even on par 3 holes.

My last weekend's rounds were 95 & 90, a pretty good pair of scores for my recent standard.  The only sure thing I followed from the book was flaring both feet out at address.   I completed reading the book and will try one more sure thing in this weekend's rounds - hitting into middle of green from 80 yards and out.  Other things will be harder to apply without more practice and discipline.

If you're a 19, it might even be 60 yards. Of course, if the green is HUGE, then it's not really the "center" of the green. It's more just playing toward the safe side, always.

Greens are on small to average side.   I will use 60 yards for most situations then.  Thanks.

I followed several tips from LSW in the last two rounds, notably, hitting to middle of green on shots longer than 60 yards.   Several times, I hit to exactly to the middle, away from the pin.  But for simple majority of times, hitting to middle of the green regardless of pin location worked well.   Scores were good - 91 & 88.  Heck, they were excellent.  Can't credit everything to LSW (took two lessons on driving, and have been doing a lot of mirror work) but it is certainly helping.

I am now re-reading Speed Kills section.  I don't get "Use the ground" section and submitted a question to LSW.com site.  If anyone has alternate explanation on how it works, I'd appreciate it.

That just goes to Dave and I… :) So I'll just answer it here.

It's jumping. It's extending. It's lowering slightly (possibly) and then exploding UP off the ground. First you have to get your hips forward, but then you extend the lead knee and push your butt up and thrust your belt forward and up.

We've done some videos on it. I'll try to remember to look back here and link those in later.

Among others. You don't have to actually get airborne like she does to "use the ground" though.

That's what I thought.  Thanks.

Got some "speed kills" mirror work done today at a gym.

    • Day 430 - 2025-12-04 Slow motion backswings (with chippy shots) with AlmostGolf balls.
    • Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.
    • Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.
    • Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.
