...neither should we!

Golf Digest

http://www.golfdigest.com/blogs/the-loop/2014/07/tiger-woods-talks-about-going.html

Don't worry, Tiger. We know how it feels.

In his one-on-one interview with Fox Sports, a portion of which was published online on Wednesday , Tiger Woods gave the world an extraordinary admission about something that has been weighing on people's minds for quite a while: his hair loss.

It's not something that Tiger hasn't noticed, but he seems in good spirits about it.

"I'm comfortable with it, but my hairline isn't," Tiger said, after being asked by host Colleen Dominiguez if he was comfortable aging. "I have a nice skylight [at home] and I'm at the point where if I don't where a hat, I can feel the heat."

Then Dominiguez asked the big question: if Tiger would ever consider shaving off the rest of his hair.

"I think I will, but I'm fighting the cause, and I'm fighting it hard," Woods said. "It's a no-win fight, but I'm hanging in there."

To get a better idea of what he's talking about, here's Tiger's hairline at the 1997 Masters, compared to his hairline at the 2014 British Open.

I have embraced going bald by growing a badass beard.  It kinda says, "I might be bald but don't f*** with me!". ;-)

I gave up the fight back when I was 19 and left a military style, crew-cut-buzzed patch on top. By 21 I pulled out the Mach 3 and went clean. Same style now, but it's the Fusion ProGlide Flex Ball lol.

My hairline has been exceedingly tall for as long as I can remember (I joke that I need a big forehead to fit my big brain - self-deprecatory sarcasm that's often missed). But it's not receding. Not yet anyway. Or noticeably.

My grandma used to tell me that by wearing hats all the time the hair would "rub off" and I'd go bald faster. She was, thus far, wrong on that count.

I've heard rumors that he's tried plugs, no idea if true but did notice that the hair on the back of his head, below his hat, seemed a little fuller than I recalled it. Could be I was just happy to see him at all after such a long break.

I have started buzzing my head with a #1, the same as the beard.  Makes things easy.

I have embraced going bald by growing a badass beard.  It kinda says, "I might be bald but don't f*** with me!".

And I have the problem that I can't even do that.  I've never been able to grow a decent beard (not that I've ever really wanted to).

My grandma used to tell me that by wearing hats all the time the hair would "rub off" and I'd go bald faster. She was, thus far, wrong on that count.

Funny, I used to get the same thing.  I don't remember where it specifically came from, but I just remember as a kid thinking that wearing hats would make me go bald.

I have started buzzing my head with a #1, the same as the beard.  Makes things easy.

Nah ... guardless is the way to go.  This way I can do it all myself and don't need the wife to tidy up the back of my neck for me.  Although I don't have the best set of clippers and will miss a spot occasionally.  Oops. ;)

I suppose it happens to the best of us...

My hairline has been slowly receding in the front for awhile.

I feel your pain, Tigs! Mine never really grew back after chemo, just some wispy little sprigs in the typical monk pattern... I shave it every couple of days with an Andis T-Outliner, pretty good razor.

I've always known the day will come when I too will feel the eat, so I just shave it off for now.

Off topic: I hope Fox Sports is really trying to give GC a tough run for their money. They should pick up Nobilo too

Now if only this could do something about his desire to appear as Mirror Tiger. That having been said, I appreciate his speaking out about this. It will probably make it easier for me when I have to deal with my own eventual baldness issues.

New poll idea

Will Tiger win his 15th major before or after he shaves his head?

Poorly worded. If you think he wins 15, you vote "yes" because you said "or" and TRUE|FALSE and FALSE|TRUE both evaluate to true. If you think he won't win 15, you vote no. :)

In other words, it's the same poll as asking if he will win a 15th major. :D

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
