TST Explores GAME Golf

Recommended Posts

I prefer the tap n go. My phone used to die from golf goes apps on the course and now I hardly touch it during a round.

If it helps, I played 18 holes over about 5 - 5.25 hours using the game golf phone app and had somewhere between 60 and 70% battery left on my iPhone 6.

In my opinion if you fiddled with your GPS to every shot to enter what club you had it would be the last time we played together.

It really doesn't take long at all. I track all my shots (putts, fairways, greens, clubs, etc) with Swing by Swing and I'm always done with my app by the time I get to my next shot. It takes less time than waiting on the hacker in front of you to find their ball.

I apologize for having a spam URL in my signature and will not do it again.

I used Swing by Swing for a couple of years, Game golf is much quicker.  I also like the fact that I tag the shot and don't really think about it until I am home ready to download my round.  I found with Swing by Swing that I would catch myself messing around with my phone too much.  Mostly for yardages and checking distances to bunkers, etc.  Game golf on my hip and Garmin S2 on my wrist = glance, grab, tag & swing.

That does sound like a good tracking system, but with limited funds for tracking gear, I think it does pretty well. If I had $1k+ to put into gear I'd go with a watch and tag system myself.

Just a note.  You don't have to buy all at once.  I like to buy items that are not necessarily the newest thing on the market.  I keep my clubs up to date about every 3-5 years, but I bought my watch last year when there were 3 newer model garmins available.  The setup I have now can be bought for under 350 total, with the watch about 150 and the tracker about 180.

I'll tell you what… I'm going to try to get one of the engineers to sign on here or something so that they can start to more directly engage with y'all here.

It appears, unless I missed something, that you can now manage multiple clubs on your account now. I just went and added my alternate set in and swapped the "active" set to reflect the clubs I'm using currently. I think it's a good way to compare performance of clubs and I know some people have been asking about it.

I don't know if I see that. I just have the clubs for one set on the left, and four "Unused Tags" on the right.

Been that way since I started using it in Jan. For comparison it could be helpful. What I don't like it how it displays in club performance. My account looks cluttered with two iron sets, three drivers, fairways and hybrids. I'm not a big club experimenter or anything but I keep my main set at home and backup set in the office in the event I don't have the main clubs with me. Due to my job I am in and out of different vehicles and sometimes I want to play after work but don't have time to stop by the house. I'd like to be able to hide what shows in club performance. Basically what I see is you can add as many clubs as you like but I don't see a way to manage them.

Dave :-)

You hit the plus on the bottom to add clubs and then you can slide the tags around that you already use and it creates a new performance profile for the new club. I found it by accident because I was playing around with the mobile version and they added this feature.

Oh, that? I think I've seen that. I thought you were saying you could swap out whole bags or something. Or at least an entire set of irons.

I put new Pure grips on my second set of irons and forgot that the tags can fall out of them. I seem to have lost my 4 and 5 iron tags. I already tipped my bag over and they didn't come out, but that doesn't mean they didn't get caught on something and get stuck.

Just an update: I emailed GG about this and they offered to replace my lost tags. Their customer support is fantastic!

That was nice of them.  I'm sure the mowers have made a meal of them by this time.  Mine seemed to screw in pretty hard with the Golf Pride Tour Wraps but I put a tiny little dab of silicon on them just in case.  The first one I did was overkill and needed a major cleanup. I try to be careful laying clubs down around the green or putting them back in the bag without dropping them.  I guess a lot of them just come flying off on the swing.

I have had my Game Golf unit fall off 4 times now.  A lip at the bottom of the belt clip would have done wonders.  I will have to try something because I'm always checking to make sure it hasn't fallen off after those incidents.

After two really horrendous rounds and learning how to use the thing.  I finally got to the point where I got into a routine of taking two practice swings then tag.  The only time I miss one is when I get into a 3 putt routine really really close to the hole.  Time to slow down.  It also throws out some really weird readings from time to time.  I don't ever remember teeing off in the middle of a major highway on #7.  I had to do some major editing last night on a slightly less than horrendous round for me.  It's a good thing I was also keeping a scorecard during the round.  Way too much action for one man to handle.

I've come to the conclusion that this unit or system is not accurate at all.  Maybe it is the area and reception problems, who knows.  It was blue skies with scattered clouds when I teed off.  There is way too much editing by moving shots around.  Some are on the opposite side of the fairways and greens.  It posted two shot in the middle of the highway.  I don't see how this could ever be used for accurate distances when you have to move things around that much when you get home.  I have enough to worry about and then add where I stood for every shot is asking for too much.  Not a happy camper at this point in time.

This has been the opposite of my experience so far.  Ive played 99 holes with this unit at 4 different courses and Ive moved maybe 3 or 4 shots.  There has definitely been times Ive tagged twice or forgot to tag but thats operator error which knowing me isn't all that shocking.  Ive had a shot that was marked as rough that was in the bunker and Ive had a few shots that were in the fairway but were marked as rough.  All  of theses were only a few yards off though.  I hope you get your GG figured out Judah I feel like its a decent tool to see patterns in ones game.

Same for me.  I tag whenever I remember, which sometimes includes level with the tee markers but off to the side on the cart path, and it also includes walking to the cart after leaving the green.  In those cases, obviously, I have to move the shot, but otherwise, I've had no troubles.  There is also the occasional double tag, as well as the occasional non-tag.  All of the above fall under the "user error" category.

The only other editing I've had to do is to move the flag on the green, which the machine can't possibly know anyway, and delete the occasional erroneously "detected shot."

I've found it plenty accurate. I rarely move shots (I move the flag fairly often), even with cloudy skies.

Maybe your unit is goofy, @Judah Ben-Hur . Write to them.

    • Day 48. Got out at lunch to the range to hit some driver shots. Haven’t had much practice there. Focused on setup suggested by @iacas and found some very playable results. I did try to hit a couple of bunker shots after that with much less success 🙃
    • Got a rare birdie on #18 Par 5.  Drive was good and left me in range of the green.  I was @ 210 from the center and needed @ 180 to clear a hazard area.  Green had bunkers lest, right and on back. had been struggling and most shots were short so I took the 225 club figuring back of green hit well. i did hit it well, @ 229 per SS and dead on—kind at the pin.  Ended up @ 1 foot off the back in short rough and lucky for me it was a back pin placement.  Chipped about 15 feet leaving a 3 feet putt for par which I sunk.
    • Yea, so to clarify for me. I do not feel the clubface much in the swing. I feel the weight of the club. I can feel if I hit the club off the heel or toe. When I try to feel if the clubface is open or closed in the swing, I feel it more with my hands, and less of the clubhead. I would classify majority of my swings as not feeling like the clubface does much of all. It feels like I hold the clubface open. In the finish, it doesn't feel like my left hand faces the ground. It feels more like it faces the sky. I will try to be more aware of this, but it was just the sensation I got when I was making what felt like good swings. For the most part, I was hitting slight draws or slight pushes.  On this golf trip, I had to hit a low 8 iron around a tree to the green. I made an alignment adjustment, and actively try to roll my hands a bit more to get it to sling around the corner. I do have a habit of not adjusting how the clubface comes through impact, and I can still hit the ball straight-ish even moving the ball way back in my stance and trying to swing out more.  Yea, my feels are more hands and arms, less actually feeling the clubface.
