I'm in Saturday as well. Will anyone be staying sat night (I will either way). Anyone know of a good place to stay with deals? Btw @Golfingdad this brings you back in. You're taking 3 months off from golf starting November. Go out with a bang!

Aggghhhh, Well I'm sorry to say it, but it looks like I will be out regardless of the date. As mentioned I'll be out of town for a week starting November 2nd. And when I mentioned to my wife that I might be playing in a golf outing in Palm Springs the day before..... well, you can probably guess that didn't go over too well. Kinda embarrassing to reveal to the TST community who wears the pants in my marriage, but thankfully @Golfingdad , already paved the way for me!

Sorry Tristan, I know we owe you a trip out the Desert and truthfully I was looking forward to this one, but I'm going to have to pass.

Hacker101 and his son can't go that weekend either, can we make it a later week?

I can go any weekend other than Thanksgiving week (including weekends). Family stuff.

Yeah it seems like we aren't getting much of a response for the Nov weekend. I might not even be able to do the Saturday or Sunday.

How about the first weekend in December (6/7)?

Sure, that's kind of fall weather around here anyway. Might even be summer weather out in Palm Springs.

I'm going through a chipping putting slump anyway. Now that I can make pin high on the longer holes with 30 yard to 10 yard "nGIR", I can't chip and putt to get the up and down. I've had 38 holes (declared practice before playing)  with only 6 birdie possibilities (which I missed), with a good 80% of the remaining being nGIR doubles and triples.

Probably just getting apathetic, because getting close to the greens is not that special any more?

Alright, lets just put this one off until December. We'll try to figure out a date then.

Also, we may want to look into a different course (and area). By the time December rolls around the rates will be WAY up out here (Escena would be $120ish).

Right now, at Escena? They're closed... overseeding. We were going to be paying $60 for the Nov. 2nd date.

That price sounds great. I see why we want to go on the 2dn.

I'm still in, then.

Honestly, I don't think we have enough to make it worthwhile. I'll talk to them soon to see if they can do something in December, and if not, we'll find something else. We live in SoCal and have plenty of great courses, so there's no need to rush it. I'd rather get a larger turnout.

Bummer for us, I am leaving for New Jersey early Sunday morning for the week.

So it sort of looks like Nov is out for us at this point.

Okay, I can wait.

Played 9 holes this morning, and my short game is just starting to come around again. The secret is to talk to the ball and come to a mutual understanding before hitting my approach shot . . . Read about this on an internet golf instruction forum. . .

Gonna be in San Diego this weekend, but sadly not playing golf. Gonna be a Sea World and SD Zoo weekend, with a little IPA and seafood thrown in for good measure. Maybe I'll sneak the clubs into the car. The wife won't notice one more bag, right? Any SD courses I can get around before 1000 am on a weekend?

    • To your second point - I think we all have seen videos of top tour players hitting balls on the range and they call out the distance before getting the number from trackman - and they are amazingly accurate. But on the course they will occasionally hit a shot longer than they intended. (the commentators invariably attribute it to nerves/wind gust/adrenaline etc.) I think maybe the "environment" inside the venue is affecting their senses/feel. Which brings up a question in my mind as to how important are a players senses involved in the golf shot. What percentage is "feel" versus "mechanics". In my case, anecdotally, I have a harder time getting the distance correct if I cannot see the bottom of the flag stick.
    • He said: “Yeah. So tech wise and numbers wise, look, I've had the same concerns, I guess, just from I hadn't obviously played a match,” McIlroy said Tuesday at Pebble Beach Golf Links, where he is preparing for his first PGA Tour event of the season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. “I went in there on Wednesday, and I brought two other launch monitors with me. I brought my GCQuad, I brought my TrackMan. Obviously, hitting balls into the screen and every number was virtually identical. That put my concerns to bed, which was really good. I hit balls in there for 90 minutes.” I wonder, though, if the lights were different, or something like that caused some of the issues. Again, if you tell Tiger it's 100 yards, he's gonna hit it 100 yards, not 130. Even if he's blindfolded.

    • As usual, this is difficult to answer without seeing your swing. So, my first suggestion is to start a My Swing Thread.  After that, my next best guess is that you fade (slice) your driver more than your 3-wood.  I once played with a guy who had such a glancing blow with his driver that I could out drive him with my 6 iron.  Get with a good instructor and learn to hit your driver properly. Even with 93 mph swing speed you should be able to hit your driver 210-230.
