I wonder. I haven't upgraded to 8 yet. Can you say, hey Siri, record video in high speed mode. Then, stop recording?

No.

Is there a time limit on how long you can record a video in 240 fps? If there isn't, you probably wouldn't need a remote control, right?

Depends on how much empty space you have on your iPhone.

Thanks. Are file sizes large in 240? My wife is having battery issues with her phone, so we're talking about possibly upgrading. I figured if I was going to switch phones, I might as well get something I can use for golf. I think if I get one, I would get the 64Gb. I don't store movies or music on my phone, so most of my memory space would be occupied by pictures and video. That's double the storage capacity of my current phone, of which I have 16Gb still available, but I don't have anything recorded for golf on here.

My Casio, I'm roughly guesstimating that 12 GB = 1 hour @ 240 fps. I'm n ot so sure I'd want to edit a file that large though. A 15 min 3GB file might be more manageable.

The Casio isn't at 720 resolution. It's like 448 x 336.

Trimming would still suck.

My raw swing videos are only about 2-3 minutes long, so I think I'd have plenty of room. Plus, I plan to delete them from my phone once I get them on my computer. Yes. But I tend to look at my videos while I am practicing and all of that extra footage would drive me nuts. That's why I would get the watch if I could use it as a remote control.

I didn't think about that. It drives me nuts at regular speed; it would be ten times worse in slow motion. I guess I'd just have to live with it. Unless you can view it in normal speed until you get to the important part and just slow that down. Then it's exactly what I do now, only with more frames and a bigger display screen (a lot of my swing videos are blurry because I can't tell I'm not focused properly). Net gain :-)

New Mac Mini announced. $499 entry price. I have an 8 year old Mini, but it's still going strong and I'm happy with it. Tempting.

Downloaded and installed Yosemite. Really like most of it, a few annoying things here and there. Most of the icons are good looking, except the Finder icon. Still making my way through John Siracusa's review.

My install took forever.  It just sat there saying 1 minute left for over an hour.  But finally it got done.  I like the look so far.

His review is out? I wonder how many pages it is, 30? Always look forward to his reviews. Now I have to allocate a big chunk of time to read it.

You guys read Ars Technica too?  I'm a long time member of the forums over there.

Yeah, I saw that Siracusa's Yosemite review was 25 pages long and thought maybe I should take a nap before trying to dive into it.

I don't generally read Ars Technica, I always check its headlines and I definitely will read anything Siracusa writes. Generally, Ars, TheVerge, AnandTech, Recode, Wired, RWW, GigaOM, wherever Techmeme brings me.

Ars has a lot of very nerdy, in-depth stuff. Even on non-tech science topics. I check it most days. I'm trying to wean myself off The Verge and all Vox sites. Can't stand their clickbait stuff and disguised advertising. iOS 8.1 will be released in about 48 minutes.

I'm looking forward to Apple Pay (if it works with nearby retailers) and the return of the Camera Roll, so I can change my backgrounds with photos older than a month…

    • Day 133: did a stack session.
    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.
    • Day 58 - 2024-11-27 Some quick 90-yard shots on a particular hole… before a lesson and testing out multiple Foresight Launch Monitors on GSPro.
    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
