Wow I hit a large bucket of balls today and... I think I'm about to start playing holding a tee like that

Unfortunately you can't use it if you want to post the score, 14-3

I am finding a lot of similarities between our swings. You do a great job with your knee action. I'm pretty envious. I saw a couple things that you do with your right knee that I'm going to try myself.

Not exactly a trait of a Stupid Monkey ;-)

Lol aw, the usga thinks of everything

Just played 18 without hitting a single big push, felt great! I think I might be getting longer of the tee too, but I might just be striking it purer

I had to change a few things in my swing because of a back injury. I'm not hitting it nearly as far as before, but it's a pretty easy swing to repeat at least

i read through chunks of the comments and agree with almost all. I have found in my own swing that the "standing up" is mostly caused by the lower body.   You can read a lot about "early hip extension" which is the lower body mvoing towards the ball line coming down.  The upper body then has to stand up to give you room to hit the ball.   Most of us move the ball away from us to get more room.   Keep the belt buckle back is one solid tip but the idea is to not let the lower body move towards the ball.  Another tip is to feel like your butt stays against the wall behind you until after impact.   Your right hip stays back, the left hip returns to the wall.   That will help you keep the lower body back, your upper body will then stay over the ball instead of rising.

I am also not a fan of pinching the knees together at address.   You want some stability while allowing you room to turn.   It's a tradeoff but no tour pro will pinch the knees to the extent you have done so here.

I think I made a lot of progress thanks to advice I got here. Idk how much better it is, but I'm really liking my swing now

Heya guys. I started getting back into golf recently after taking 3 years off. It seems like my swing held up a lot better than I expected, although my short game definitely didn't haha. What do you guys think I should work on first? (Other than the belly I have now)

I ended up getting a lesson and I found out that I need to start my hip rotation earlier in my swing, which will lead to me needing to flip my arms less and create less of a reverse C position in my follow thru. I'm working on implementing this change, but it's tough to make myself do something that feels so novel. I feel like I'm starting to see some minor results though. I seem to be finishing with a more vertical angle for my swing path like the instructor told me I would and my stock shot is going a little straighter!

I'm starting to develop a lot more confidence in the new motion with my irons, and I'm noticing my mishits are becoming a lot less severe! I'm still doing some leaning back through impact, but I think it looks a bit better than it did two weeks ago.

I learned recently that you can record in slomo on iphones at get a lot more frames. I'm still fighting a hook with my driver, but I seem to be keeping my head a little more still than I used to be.

Lay the alignment stick along your toe line, then aim the camera at that line. The reason to do this is instructors can see the position of your hands and club head along all the check points, A1 to A9. Where you have it lined up, it is harder to see that.

Cool I'll try that. Also, I didn't realize how closed my feet were against my target line. That might explain my issues hitting it left. Thank you for the feedback!

How did you work over the last two years? What did you do?

I got a few lessons in 2020 and he helped me understand the importance of hip rotation and weight transfer direction in the swing, so I worked on a lot of drills around those two things. I listed the three that helped me the most below. I also started doing a lot of stretching/yoga to help with flexibility and weight training. I think what's been toughest for me (and still is) is that it's really hard for me to get into a great impact position even outside the swing due to past lead knee and hip injuries, so my practice has mostly been around trying to resolving that issue.

Drills:
1. Place alignment sticks in front belt loop and stick one into the ground on my left side, then try to hit the alignment sticks before impact.

2. Place wedge under my lead heel, swing transferring my weight towards that foot such that the wedge shaft doesn't move until after impact

3. Turn my head towards the target in the downswing

    • Day 126: another busy day, so just did some mirror work. Checking set up and backswing and working on a few downswing feels.
    • Day 310 - Working on my follow-through. Higher chest, belt towards the target. Small swings at first, building to a fuller swing (still not thrilled with my short backswing).
    • Day 201 (19 Nov 24) - Walked the back nine at Minnesott today, played the “white” tees with the persimmon woods and bladed irons.  It’s a challenge I really like as the clubs are shorter in overall distances.  It really forces me focus on the value of the approach game.     Somehow yesterday’s post did not load / so it’s above.  Today (Day 202) I did some backyard short yardage work - 7i dink  and rolls, 9i chips and 50deg pitches - working to get it in before the rain started around noon.
    • Day 51 - 2024-11-20 Played nine holes of Sanctuary Moon with a 6I while pausing in the backswing and otherwise just practicing. If you're into Star Wars, or don't actively hate it… this is worth checking out.
