Rickie and the Over-Read.

I think USA would have taken 2.5-1.5 before the morning matches...

The afternoon is what counts...

USA need to keep it close this afternoon. This is where it went wrong yesterday. Singles traditionally favors the more talented team, and I think Europe is more talented, so we need to be there going into tomorrow.

Watson and McGinley should make a pact and put Simpson vs. Gallacher in the first match. The two guys that it looks the captain's regret picking.

MVP of Europe so far is Justin Rose. Guy is playing lights out. Stenson is, too, but Rose is really on fire. For the USA, Jordan Spieth or Patrick Reed.

"If you don't 2nd guess, you're not trying to get better." Don Mattingly, former baseball all-star, now manager.

Risk is a word that's easy to discuss upfront but tough to handle when it comes time to pay the piper. There will always be some who wimp out & 2nd guess when the pain hits, but that's a childish reaction.
-- Nathan Myhrvold, co-founder Intellectual Ventures and former chief tech officer of Microsoft.

It may come early in the game or late, a piece of good or bad luck, or 1 tremendous thrust not to be parried. An experienced watcher can put their finger on... the turning point of the match which causes one [side] to strike the stars with uplifted head, the other to feel broken.
-- Bernard Darwin, golf writer Atlantic Monthly 1928

The ebb and flow and Monday morning quarterbacking are what make the Ryder Cup unique and compelling. I go back and forth for and against the blind-draw for the match-ups but it yields many unexpected outcomes and that's cool too.

A split of the afternoon matches would mean EU 8.5 to US 7.5. I agree that the EUROS top 4 or 5 are having better seasons. I'm not so sure that the "bottom" 4 or 5 whether there's any advantage or perhaps even a slight edge to the U.S. All that's on paper though. 7 singles wins under that scenario is an outright win for either side. If your a U.S. fan fingers crossed that scenario will be in play.

So far I actually think Watson's outcoaching McGinley so far by a little bit. Watson's only real error so far was not playing Spieth/Reed yesterday, plus I think Zach should have been playing more given his good record in windy weather, but I think McGinley's making some bigger ones. Don't like what he's doing with McIlroy/Garcia. They may win this afternoon, but I've never been a fan of putting two superstars together, even if they are good friends. Also should be playing McDowell more. Great match play player and seems to have good rapport with Dubuisson. Shouldn't be hiding him unless he requested it.

Gheez ... I can't stand to watch USA play alternate shot.

I'm going to the range...

And while wearing those gawdawful shirts that look like pajama tops. Let's hope the results are not that ugly.

Where are you guys getting this dirt on Tom Watson?  It's against the rules of this site to 'make things up'.  I look at Wikipedia, a source, and find nothing about TWatson's adulterous behaviour. Your other comments are opinions; but shameless too?   So you're anti-tomwatson.  Why so harsh?

Pretty easy to find info on Watson's alcoholism and adulterous history. Just not on Wikipedia. I'm calling him out for chucking rocks when he lives in a glass house.

    • Day 563, May 18, 2024 Was going to play today, but we waited on the first tee for 15 minutes, watched three of the four players lose their golf balls, and went to the range (with @DrizZzY). I was hitting some hybrids 250 on the range, comfortably, repeatably.
    • Give it time. if Hatton misses another shot he might launch his club & hit someone .
    • That’s a pre Sunday leaderboard I can like.
    • The best was Tommy Gainey in the prostitution sting a few years ago. Now that was funny.
    • Played Musgrove Mill GC today. 72.3/155. First round in 4 weeks and shot 44-39. 2 triple bogies on the front and horseshoed 4 putts today. Overall, 10 fairways, 8 GIR and 31 putts.  Set a goal today to par the 3 toughest holes (4, 18 and 9) and birdie 10 or 12 (which I have never birdied). Parred 4, 9 and birdied 10. Crushed my drive on 18 and had 139 left, but in casual water. Dropped back a little ways and took an extra club. Hit my 8-iron well but it came up short. Bunker shot from wet sand left me an 18’ for my goal. Read the break well but perhaps an inch too much break, and a touch heavy on the speed. Ball circled the hole 270* and tapped in for a bogey. Handicap dropped 0.1.
