The PGA Tour is in Kuala Lumpu, Malaysia this week for the CIMB classic. Billy Horschel, Jason Dufner and Guan Tianlang are in the field.

What were you doing around the time of your 16th birthday? Maybe you were beginning work on your college application forms or thinking about a trip to the mall with your friends. It is all but a guarantee that you weren’t preparing for your seventh event on the PGA TOUR.

Guan Tianlang is making his seventh PGA TOUR start this week at the CIMB Classic. Guan, who made the cut at age 14 at the Masters, turned 16 on October 25.

“My life is a bit different than normal kids because I have a second life that is golf. However, I think I am having a pretty balanced life since I still go to school and study, I do manage to practice golf as much as I can,” said Guan, who has made four PGA TOUR China Series starts this season, with a tie for 24th at the Cadillac Open his top performance. “I also enjoy my time as every other kid at my age, I love playing basketball and watching sports games, and I do it all the time with my friends. To me, playing at the tournaments are pretty much the same, I always get myself fully prepared and hope to do all I can to give my best performance. But of course, there is a lot of super talented players on the PGA TOUR and you always have so much to learn.”

Some might be satisfied by being the youngest ever to make the cut at one of the most prestigious events in all of golf. Guan, however, has shaken the urge to become complacent. If anything, the success at Augusta and the praise from players like Tiger Woods, Gary Player and many others in the golfing community has only fueled his fire to succeed. Since the Masters and the handful of PGA TOUR, Japan Golf Tour and European Tour events that followed, Guan has resumed his studies, returned to playing some junior amateur events but also spent some time practicing and working with golf instructor Sean Foley.

Does Ryan Moore have a club sponsor? Looks like a couple of his woods are TM and he is definitely not playing any "major" brand irons (Muiras, maybe?)...anyone know?

He's sponsored by TaylorMade.

I think he had the Miura PP-9003 irons back in the bag this week. At the Shriners he had the TaylorMade MB irons. Last year when he won in Malaysia he was playing the PING S55 irons.

Congrats to Ryan Moore on the successful title defense!

I also found interesting that Gary Woodland finished 2nd, two years in a row now as well. Some courses just work well to a golfer's eye.

On that note, I was more fascinated by the fact that for the last 5 or 6 years they said an American has won this thing.  So, maybe this is more of an "American" style course?

Really? Wow. Interesting that he doesn't rep the Adidas and TM gear (clothing) like the rest of them.

Him holding an equity stake in True Linkswear sort of precludes him from any shoe or clothing deals.

That makes sense. Thanks for the info.

    • Day 343 - Mostly worked on pitching, but getting back to my full-swing work, as well.
    • Day 237 (26 Dec 24) - played 18 with niece and her husband at one of the local courses.  We were first out - so we pretty had our own pace of play.  First few holes were a struggle, but the groove started by hole 5.  The green side wedge game kicked in - had several kick in up and down pars.  Best of the day - had my first ever sandie birdie on #9. It’s a neat par three with a pot hole bunker - found it off the tee.  Had about a 22yd shot from the bunker to the flag.  Hit an easy shot out with the 54 that hit softly and gently rolled center cup.  Had several other close wedge shots into others that were close but no hole out.  Was a great day with the green side wedge game - and seeing solid fruit from the drills.
    • Day 16: 12/26/2025 A little more mirror work today. Then out to the garage net.  The first part of my PPJ swing thought is really starting to stick. The J still takes some focus. Plus, I'm still putting a priority on getting all the way to my finish.
