So that's where my golf ball went! 90% air... 90% trunk!

Super cool.

Somewhere underneath Kittyhawk GC in Dayton Oh is a gopher skeleton with a golf ball in its rib cage.

Hmm..  How old is that ball?  Seems like it would take awhile for the tree to grow around it like that?

Maybe 7 to 10 years?

Hard to tell with the rings deformed where the ball is.

It's a three piece ball so, they haven't been around forever.

Exactly my line of thinking.

Any tree experts around that could say how long it would take for the tree to grow around the ball like that?

Edit:

Not to mention, the chainsaw just happened to hit the ball at the exact equator??  Would be pretty hard to do that with a saw if you were trying.

Yeah, I thought it might be PSed. If you zoom in, it looks pretty real. Who knows though, but it's close enough for me!

With a chainsaw I would expect the ball to be smeared with bar chain oil and maybe not so clean a cut. Also a heck of a coincidence that the ball was cut exactly in half.

On the other hand it's between forks just as a ball would be, the tree rings deformed around the ball just as they would do naturally, and somebody would have had to have enough forethought to find exactly those conditions and decide to photo shop a golf ball in that spot. There is not an unreasonable amount of rings around the ball for the age of the ball, since a tree makes one new ring per year.

Add up the evidence and I say it's real.

Seems like a good estimate. The odds of cutting the trunk right in the middle of the golf ball are pretty slim, they might have seen a part of it then sliced right down the middle. I wonder if there are many more trees with golf balls grown around them? I've had many playing partners lose their ball up in a tree recently.

While working at the course I've found a lot of balls stuck in the forks of trees. I'm sure that there are plenty more that we don't find and the tree has grown around them.

P.S. Here is a 1/2 inch cable that I attached to this tree about 20 years ago (for something I can't remember) and forgot about it. I noticed it last week when I was down in the woods.

Which may well be why we are seeing the picture.

Had the saw been an inch either side, I doubt we'd be looking at it.

LOL...Just wait until they cut the trees down where I play. Most of the balls I find in rough areas of the course I'll put them somewhere on or in a tree.

Off the 1st tee box there's a hole in a tree that I must have put at least 5 dozen balls in over the course of a year or so and it isn't full yet. The hole is roughly 12 - 15 feet off the ground and I use a ball retriever to put the balls in.

Near the 9th green there's a tree with a large bowl shaped crotch about 5 feet off the ground.. I put all cut or damaged balls I find in there. Because they can be seen I always place the best side out.

Near the tee boxes I'll place balls high up in the trees with the retriever and ball hawkers eventually find them. On one tee there's a tree with a very small knot hole and I use a rock to pound a ball in there so just the curvature of the ball is seen.. someone must bring a pry bar with them because the ball disappears every time.

Why?

I've seen people pick up a ball and stick it in the fork of a tree but not to the point of OCGBHD. (Obsessive-compulsive-golf-ball-hiding-disorder).
