Don't like being this punctilious normally but it's dated 11/18, which was Tues. Today is Thurs.

His reputation has been shattered, legacy as well which is all you really have at that age. He will apologize soon.

Tiger poste his rant on Tuesday. Read the tweet. It is absolutely in response to Tiger's piece.

So I guess the real question is did Jenkins write the same type of parody piece about:

Arnold Palmer and his infidelity.

Tom Watson and his infidelity.

Nick Faldo and his infidelity.

Greg Norman and his infidelity.

Tens of other top PGA golfers and their infidelity.

And @phan52, were you equality crestfallen when you found out about all the above and their infidelity.  I just find the double standard against Woods comical.

Infidelity is one thing. Depravity is another. Dude seriously needs therapy.

You're missing his point. You said the tweet was posted yesterday. It wasn't. It's a small point but it illustrates things nicely.

I was most surprised at how unfunny the fake interview was.  It ended up just being a bunch of personal attacks in the form of a question.

I agree. It was not Swiftian in sweep or execution. If the author feels that Tiger has had character missteps in the past that he has not 'owned' or addressed, direct opinion would have been a more readable and respectable approach.

For Tiger & his agent to pretend like they don't know what satire is, though, makes them both seem to lack a sense of humor about themselves and/or ignorant. What's worse for them is that tone-deaf response only reinforces some of the author's characterizations (and may actually have been anticipated).

What that I got a date wrong? The point is that it was in response to Tiger. Did you even read the tweet? Do you think it WASN'T in response to Tiger? If not, I suggest it illustrates quite a bit.

@phan52 , of course I read the tweet - it's right there in a few posts. Who do you think I am - you? :) And of course I realize it was in response to Tiger's post on Jeter's site. Duh.

Hopeless.

Pretty much.

Wait, he had sex with lots of women. That makes him a fraud? Wow, what an interesting definition of fraud.

Somebody once said about Tiger when he was on the top of the world that he felt sorry for him because he was a prisoner of his success. I certainly didn't feel sorry for him back then. What's wrong with being on the top of the world? Now, I do feel sorry for him because he is a prisoner of his personal failures. He can't escape it.

That still doesn't explain how his sexual addiction makes him a fraud. I've never cared to know any public figure's private life, all I care about is how the perform their job. I guess this is why I don't understand the extreme adoration or dislike/hatred of famous person.

@phan52 I understand that you don't like Tiger very much because of his indiscretions off the course and the fact that he seems stand-offish but why are you so against him defending himself?  The guy's life has been scrutinized over the past couple of years probably as much or more than any other athlete in the world and he felt that this article crossed the line and decided to take a stand against a reporter who has it out for him.  Also why is it OK for Jenkins to attack Tiger credibility and but not OK for Tiger to attack Jenkins.  Sometimes the media gets carried away and feel like they untouchable because of their journalistic rights(or whatever its called) and need to be given a reality check that these are real people that they are writing about.

Not a personal attack btw...just genuinely curious

This is my last post on this thread. You make a lot of good points. The fact is, if you read the thread, I never said it was alright for Jenkins to attack Tiger. In fact, I have said he was unnecessarily cruel. Whether I like or dislike Tiger is immaterial to my opinion that Tiger didn't do himself any favors by posting his defensive piece on Jeter's website. That is the only point I have tried to make. Others here have tried to make my dislike of Tiger the issue, but that is deflection.

Yeah, he has a right to defend himself, but it is a fact that the only people who really saw Jenkins piece were people who paged through to the very back of their GD, as GD pulled the link on the internet within hours of it being there. I can understand why, and they didn't put it back up again until Tiger brought it up. They had no choice at that point. As a result, it ended up all over the mainstream media, dragging him once again through his past indiscretions to an unnecessary level. Like I said, he ends up a prisoner of his personal failures whenever this stuff comes up. I feel sorry for him.

Done.

Tiger is a public figure and has to expect the kind of treatment Jenkins meted out BUT he doesn't have to like it and is entitled to express his displeasure about it. Both have had their turn at bat and that should be the end of it.

Tiger haters LOVE the piece because it depicts Tiger in the worst light. Tiger lovers hate the piece because it's an obvious HIT piece which was written for no other apparent reason other than to demean Tiger.

The majority of us, who I believe neither love nor hate Tiger, think it was a "low blow" and unnecessarily mean spirited article which does not speak to Tiger's historic accomplishments on the golf course, which have with one exception been far greater than Jenkins' hero, Ben Hogan.

I think if you were a journalist and were out to write a character assassination piece on anyone, you could do it quite effectively -- even on such legends as Hogan, Palmer, Nicklaus and Player -- especially Player who was known to be quite an SOB in his day.

But to go out of his way to do this to Tiger, when he has not been playing particularly well in his career, really seems boorish and cheap."Humor" at the expense of others is NEVER funny to me and Mr. Jenkins' article is no exception

Yeah. As a short guy, I was predisposed to liking / admiring Player & Hogan. Still do for some things.

To me, Hogan's accomplishments are huge, largely because of what he did during the accident and then after. I still admire him as a player, and aspects of his life story. I don't idolize him, though, he was clearly a bit hyper-competitive (reminding me of someone who's name I can't think of). He may been one of those whoe lobbied to get Bobby Locke banned when things weren't going his way. He definitely went out of his way to needle Locke's game in Power Golf. He definitely needled Sam Snead after spanking him in the Shell match, but that could have been returning the favor for something Snead did earlier. I still respect and admire his accomplishments in golf, particularly 5 Lessons. Still incredibly admire his protecting his wife when his life was on the line, and his heroic comeback to golf. But he was still clearly human and probably the sharp elbows were related to his hardscrabble youth.

Player I lost a bit of respect for, because I saw the video of him brushing the dirt aside on his backswing when he was putting from next to the clubhouse. I didn't want to, but have since started to give more credence to the 'reputation' for improving his lies. Still like his energy for the game and his "acccceeeeelllllerrrration...'choop' strike the match".

Not sure what the end of your post was but Jenkins' tweet was from a couple days ago. He screwed up, Tiger exposed it, he will pay a price, and he knows it now.

He's 80 something. He doesn't care about what anyone else thinks. He's gonna say what he wants to say. Some will get it, and some will just get p'd off about it. He'll laugh either way.

I predict the next thing we see from Jenkins is an apology. He's endured 2 days of siege. He's learning what he's done and how it's hurt him.
