Depends upon the club.

Okay, in the past you might have gotten a few sarcastic responses. That's pretty far for a MB club, I'm guessing your swing speed is around 93mph with that club? Nice work!

Wow, you guys hit far. I only carry my 7i 140 and 8i 130! If I were carrying my 7i 175, I would definitely be scratch!

Oh dear I've started something, I hit my 7 iron 185 I've had real problems with my swing and shanks my instructor sorted this and he believes I should be in low single figures if I get rest of game on, I might post vid of 8 iron shot see what you's think :)

I can't keep my driver / 3 wood in play I'm also not consistent enough with my contact yet, so hitting it that far hasn't really helped my score at all* * yet

To answer the question you titled this thread on. How ever far you are able to hit it with the consistency you want.

I'll add to this: longer than your 9 iron but shorter than your 7.

Big part of that is you pull the snot out of everything, so your 7I is actually a 5I.

9 iron 150-160

8 iron 165-175

7 iron 175-185

6 iron 185-195

5 iron 200

4 rescue 19degree 230

5 wood 230-240 don't know how

Driver -280 300

There is a thread for this post here, http://thesandtrap.com/t/18426/average-distances-how-far-do-you-hit-each-club-and-dont-lie

I would only be concerned with the distance if you are not getting proper gaps in your irons. In the end, you are going to hit the 8 iron how ever far you hit it. With out seeing actual swing speed numbers, there is no way to tell if you are getting the most out of your swing.

In the end, there is no right answer to actually how far an 8 iron should go except it should go how ever far you hit it on a good swing.

Only problem with this is you have to be be really versatile with your sandwedge as you'll use it for most shots 140 and in. Which is not a problem if your good at that! Or if not, what do you use for 140 and in??

Suddenly (or over time) hitting your clubs 10-30 yards farther is reasonable if you start hitting the ball more solidly. Changing clubs can make a difference, but for many, the quality of the strike is cutting off quite a few yards. I've hit my 7 iron 140 to 170-ish yards. As I worked on my swing and improved quality of the strike, the distance went up.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
