Back right pocked is ruled out because of the scorecard and pencil, back left tends to not work because of the glove. I wear it on my left hand, and it catches on the pocket.

Front right doesn't work because I've got golf balls and a divot tool in there. Front left is the only place I'd consider putting my phone. Even then, I don't like the idea of carrying around more shit in my pockets.

You just gave me a great idea. I have the new IPHONE 6plus. It would make a nice holder for my score card. Just have to figure out some kind a modification for my IPHONE case.

Personally I don't get too worked up on swing weights.

That's you. To others, a 2.5 change in swing weights is HUGE.

I would imagine GG tags effect the the swing weight as well but probably to a lesser degree.

They weigh about 1.66 grams, or about 14% the weight of the ARCCOS tags. They'll affect swing weight about 0.3, while the ARCCOS is ~2.4.

It seems to me I remember seeing Jack Nicklaus advertising some kind of counter weight grip that actually added weight exactly where these bluetooth units attached to the grip.

Some golfers use them. However, if they tuned their clubs using them, and THEN added this, they'd still be off ~2.4 swing weight.

For some reason this is only the last part of my post. The first part was mysteriously erased. It seems some folks have more access to our posts than just us. I was a bit miffed that someone could make a long highly critical post on the ARCCOS device and why GG is better and then request that no one make or at least comments on GG devices on this board. When comparing technologies it is important to point out both the pros and cons of the devices being reviewed. I am sure a few people saw my comments before the culprit exercised his arbitrary editing skills.

A moderator edited it out. The "highly critical" post you seem to be referring to does not exist. If you're talking about this one , it talks almost entirely about ARCCOS and specifically says we should try to limit the GG talk.

It's not arbitrary. I looked at the history of the post, and your comments were off-topic and, frankly, a bit rude. You could have sent them in a PM.

For the last time, too, please multiquote.

Just so people are aware when using ARCCOS you need to have your phone on  your person if you leave it in the cart it will assume that is where you hit the shot from.

We know that. I pointed it out earlier. It's a "minus" in my book. My phone is a lot bigger than my GG clip.

BTW, another "minus" for ARCCOS: it's currently not legal for tournament play. I doubt it will be.

It's real simple: this is a thread for learning about arccos. There's another thread for learning about game golf.

If you want to talk about both, just create A new thread like "comparing arccos and gamegolf" or something to that effect.

That simple.

Yep.

Though I don't know how many people will post in it. After all, if there's a thread about one, and a thread about the other… you can compare notes inside the one thread.

Or, if you'd like, I'll just make this the "comparison" thread. Then we'll have a GG-thread, and a comparison thread. I recommended you start this thread so that you could talk about ARCCOS alone, without the constant comparisons. Now you're miffed about that…

I don't know many golfers who do tune there clubs with counter weights of sorts. They are good golfers too. As I have only played with ARCCOS for 14 holes I am not going to say it does or doesn't effect my swing given the conditions were deplorable. Looks like it might reach 47 degrees today Hopefully the moist air will soften the greens a little. I will see if I notice any difference in my swing and performance.  GO PATRIOTS!!!!!!!!!!

I've never been fitted, but if someone has (and I think there's considerable overlap between people interested in spending $300+ on a golf information gadget and those who have gotten custom fitted for clubs), I could see them caring about something like this quite a bit. It's not just about counterweights, but things like finding optimal weight combinations between headweight, shaft weight, even the weight of a grip that doesn't have one of those tungsten inserts but is just heavy by virtue of its bulk. I'm not at the level where I think that looking at those details is the best use of my resources, but I think lots of people in the market for this gadget will be concerned about it.

Finally we had a decent day for Cape Cod winter golf. A little windy with a warn southwest wind. Played Old Bass River golf course and when I say old I mean old. A Donald Ross classic creation. A real gem built in 1902. Enough off topic.

I gave ARCCOS a full 18 hole trial. I thought I would just put ARCOSS's feet to the fire and see just how seamless this gadget is. I decided to just turn it on and put it in my back pocket play my normal game of golf and see how it matches up with my actual scorecard. After completing my round ARCOSS tracked all put one approach shot which I easily edited and I had to add three missed putts. Other than that it was spot on. Rather than try and utilize some of the other tools like distance to the green and GPS real time images of my position on the course I think it was a good move to just test its ability to track my game seamlessly and I think I will continue with this strategy for a while until I get more comfortable with it.

The stats it produced were amazing. Greens in regulation,Chipping up and down %, Approach shots: Greens in regulation 67%,Distance to pin on greens hit 31ft,distance to pin on all approaches 94 ft missed left 0%, missed right 0% , missed long 0 % missed short 3/3 100%

The same similar stats for  driving including average distance 213 yards, longest drive 235 yards.

chipping similar stats and putting it counts all your putts and breaks it down into 1 putts,2putts,3 putts etc.

And much more it even tracks your pace of play.

Pretty amazing stuff and the whole time it stayed in my back pocket!   A TAP FREE ZONE!

Does sound very similar to GG, but with having to carry a bulky phone! I think the way your using it right now, like the GG, is probably best, but I guess it's nice to have the GPS feature if you don't already have a garmin etc. if I was to get an arcoss, I would get a phone holder for my push trolley, that way I can keep it next to me and my ball without having to pull it out all the time and have it weighing my pockets down, but if I was to use a cart, then GG all the way!

I don't find my phone bulky and I have the IPHONE 6 +. I just keep it in my back pocket and forget I have with me. I don't have to remember to tap the belt box after every shot. Plus I don't have worry about finding matching apparel for red and black tap box on my belt :loco: . I do have a GARMIN watch so the distances are covered. The only reason for me to take my phone out would be if I was playing an unfamiliar course and wanted course information. Then I just look at the real time GPS image which includes my actual position. Other than that it stays in my back pocket.

On another note the battery consumption was far less than I originally thought it would be. I started with 85% charge and ended with 63% charge. A 22% battery consumption. I suspect it was lower because I left it in my pocket and didn't power up the screen numerous times.

You are the first person I've ever seen make that comment about a 6+. I have an LG G2 and I find it too bulky to comfortably sit in my pocket; it's about the size of a regular iPhone 6. Some of my golf pants don't even have pockets big enough for the 6+.

My girlfriend has the 6+ and loves it, I have the 6 and think it's too big. It's really just personal expectations and preferences. She back pockets hers while I side pocket mine, so that probably plays into it.

The phone in the pocket is a dealbreaker. I worry too much about the screen scratching, so I have it safely in my bag the whole time. I walk, so it'd be manageable with the cart being close most of the time, but especially around greens or severely missed fairways / gulleys where I don't bring the cart down, I'd get some funky readings.

The 6+ is designed for girls anyway, and you need a handbag/purse to carry it round, I'm a 4s man myself, but I won't go any further off topic!

It is easy to forget the odd tap in with GG, but only takes a few mins to add later, as for matching apparel, not needed, I found it much smaller than it appears, to the point where I forget I've got it on, then I remember and quickly check it's still there, I've had to initiate looking at the butt of my club as part of my pre shot routine, so I see the little red plug to remind me I'm wearing the unit, even the drape of my tucked in t shirt covers it from view, And as for using your phone for course information, that's kinda cheating!

I agree with using the phone for course information in a tournament setting but I was referring to situations where I would be playing a new course recreationally if that is cheating then I guess I am guilty. Just had my second full round with ARCCOS today with very similar solid results. I had to edit one off green shot and 3 or 4 missed putts. It seems to have a little trouble picking up tap in putts. Very easy to correct afterward. I never pulled ARCCOS from my pocket till I was heading off the course and entered the club house.  I really think this works the best and I don't see how using it in this fashion would constitute a rules violation. All it is doing is recording my round.

Nah, that's nothing to worry about.  It's technically against the rules in most tournaments.  I've played on the golf channel am tour and there have been many times where they allowed cell phones to be used as distance measuring devices.  If you're not playing in tournaments then I wouldn't worry about it at all.  Especially considering ...

I never pulled ARCCOS from my pocket till I was heading off the course and entered the club house.

No big deal at all, I say.  You are, in effect, using it exactly as the GG is used.

I don't see how using it in this fashion would constitute a rules violation. All it is doing is recording my round.

I mentioned previously why its a rules violation.  Simply having a device that has the capability to give you that extra info (as cell phones do, and as Arccos is certainly capable of) is what constitutes a rules violation - even if you don't use it.

But I agree with you that if you're just using it to record and you're just using it recreationally, then you are totally fine.  Don't even worry about it.  Just know that if you do play in a tournament, you can't use it.

Actually, now I'm wondering if I was wrong in the first place.  If you turn on your phone before the round starts then lock it away in your bag and never look at it once during the round, then you're technically not "using" it, right?  Maybe its not illegal at all so long as you never refer to the phone.  Hmmmm ....

@club ho Can you lock the phone screen the whole round? Might seem like a dumb question but I had a golf app that needed waking up or else the gps wouldn't be accurate after a period of time. Unless I unlocked my iphone near my ball the gps coordinates would be inaccurate. Hopefully you don't need the phone in your pocket unlocked the whole round. Probably a dumb question but wanted to be sure.

If I never touch my phone and leave it in my pocket then I know I have not used it. Hence I did not break the rules. Now if some tournament director tries to start probing my pants pocket then he is going to have a bigger problem than me breaking the rules. Unless the director is a she and looks like Natalie Gulbis then I might find a more creative hiding spot.

No you can actually use your phone to text or call and it does not interrupt the tracking process. The phone is actually in "rest mode" not sure if that is the correct term. BTW I believe that is why the battery usage is low. This last round started at 93% charge and ended at 76%. A 17% drop in charge.
