Mine was on a short 380 yard, par 4. Perfect drive. Next shot went waaaayyy right, hit a tree, and bounced across to the left side of the green where I was stuck in the rough/fringe. Played a half chip/pitch to tap in range.

345 yard par-4, my drive drifted into the trees on the right. My 2nd shot I overcooked a hybrid chip shot and it went over the back of the elevated green and almost into the weeds. Third shot I flubbed my chip and didn't make the green. Fourth shot I chipped in for par. Still couldn't salvage the round though. :0)

My best one though was a chip-in for birdie after slicing my tee-shot up onto a big hillside, but that's a different thread...

I'm not good. I never claimed to be.

I botched my drive really bad. My second swing would be considered a horrible improvement from my drive. Deep in the woods I had a wonderful pitch right to the green a few feet from the hole where I was able to dump it in for an even 4 par. I felt a bit like Phil....just for a second though. My next hole quickly reminded me who I REALLY am.

Short par 4, 380 yards or so, weak drive to the right 180 total, pull hook into waste bunker left about 50 yards out now, pitch to a tap in. Easy par never in doubt.

Short par 4, 350 yards. I pushed my tee shot behind a huge tree, thought I was better than I am and tried to fade it around the tree. The fade turned out to be a flat out slice that put me in the cabbage right of the green. I had what I thought was no shot at an elevated green and the ball was buried it thick, long grass. I took my hybrid, just hoping to get out of the crap, and played a little punch type shot. The ball came out clean, rolled up the bank onto the green and stopped about three feet from the hole. Made the putt to save par

Par 5.
shots;
1. pull drive into trees, pops out into a sand trap next to the woods. ball was in back of trap,no full swing possible.

2. choke down on hybrid, chip to fairway.

3. try to hit a cut over water to a dogleg right green, hit it dead straight. ended up behind big willow tree, between roots and no shot at the green.

4. Only shot was too left of green toward some mounds, hit a good shot to top of a mound.

5. Holed about a 30 foot chip for par.

This was in a league match and my opponent just dropped to his knees and says don't you ever make a boggie.

I happened to shoot a one under 35 that night.

Going for the green on a real narrow 287 uphill par 4, my first drive was errant and my playing companions said "better hit another". So I did and we watched it go up torwards the green. After a quick look for my original tee shot to no avail, my companions played their approches to the green and we walked up - I was half a foot away for a tap in par. Best part is i got a all the skins leading up to that hole because the two other guys who played it safe and hit the green in regulation 3-putted!

i'm sure there's a weirder one, but this is the par that always sticks out in my mind...

short 90* dogleg right par 4. hole 8 at BCC in RM, NC. a fairway bunker guards the right edge of the fairway/rough with TALL monkey grass all along the right side and trees to the right of that. in other words: Don't hit it right.

of course, i pull out a 3 wood to play it safe and knock my ball straight into love grass. i take an unplayable and then chunk my approach, barely clearing the original fairway bunker. left with about 60 yards, i hole out a lob wedge from the fairway for par.

485 yard par 5, #6 at Willows. Drive in the trees to the right, shanked the second shot, a 7 iron trying to get over the trees. Then dribbled my 3 wood down the cart path to about 150. Fourth shot into the sand just short of the green. Then chipped in for par. Happened about three months ago.

My strangest and most memorable by far was this year while playing at one of our top courses in the country. It´s a true links course by the see in between the dunes. I hit driver on a very narrow 285 yard blind par 4 hoping to get near or on the green. Unfortunately I slightly hooked it and the wind took it out of bounds. Tee´d another ball up and flushed it towards the green. As it was a blind shot I did not know what to expect but was happy to find the ball 3 feet from the hole, which I easily made for par

425 yard Par 4. Hooked a drive only about 150 yards into the trees. Right behind a big tree. Had two choices: Punch out backwards to the fairway or take it down the adjoining fairway. Tried the adjoining fairway and hit a 2 iron hybrid that nipped a tree and went across the fairway into the rough. Now I'm about 135 from the green with a row of large trees between. Hit an 8 iron towards the green. Could not see the pin but it ended up 18 inches from the pin. Tapped in for a par.

Loyalty above all else, except honor.

This morning: 360 yard par 4, skyed the drive about 2 miles up and about 85 yards out. Hit a 14 degree hybrid to about 10 ft short of the green, almost holed the chip, tap in par.

Beware of old dudes with old clubs and new grips.

527 yard uphill Par 5. Shot sequence was as follows:

1) I hit a drive on the right side that was extremely close to O.B.
2) I had no shot because of an obstruction right in front of me, so I chipped it on the fairway about 20 yards.
3) Hit a 4 Iron (I have had no hybrid or fairway woods at the time) and advanced it further up on the fairway.
4) Pitched onto the green.
5) Hit a long 25 footer breaking from right to left.

It was a nice feeling to say the least hitting that putt, but strange that I covered all 527 with that kind of shot sequence. Haha, i'll take it any day of the week though.

It happended about 2 months ago on a 175 yard par 3. I set up swung and I skulled it right into the creek that was infront of the teabox about 100yards. I heard it hit a tree but thought nothing of it. Proceeded to hit my provisional, drove down the hill only to see my ball laying maybe 5 yards behind a bunker. Funny thing was it wasn't my provisional but my real ball. I chipped it up to maybe 3 feet from the pin and sunk it for par. Guess I got an amazing kick out of the creek lol. Im still not sure if that counts as a par since I hit my provisional, but it was memorable par none the less.

    • Day 52 (30 Apr 26) - Had planned a solo round, got invited to be part of trio that included a fmr mini tour pro.  Was fun playing back a set of tees and having to stay in my game plan. Both were very engaging and encouraging in the round.  A good day in working through and making smarter shot choices.
    • Day 576 - 2026-04-30 Put my playlist on and slowed down a little as things were meh. Mostly got to an exaggerated P6 and hit from there.
    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
    • I had two events the past two days. Yesterday I was playing a course blind. Hit it solid. Hit 9/14 fairways, 12/18 greens, 34 putts. Many of those putts were the result of balls that were close-ish to the hole when they landed, but wound up a long way away once they'd finished rolling (backwards mainly). Then today, hit 11/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 37 putts, and shot 80. 8 over par and it wasn't particularly pretty. My big problem today was my pitching. I was inside 100 yards of the hole and off the green on 9 occasions.  1st - drive to about 75 yards, fanned a 58 degree short and right. On the green, but a good 40 feet away and good two putt from there (so took 3) 2nd - laid up to a bunker and it's narrow past it, so had 165 in, missed it right with an 8 iron. Wet rough, chip from about 5 yards off the green and the club snagged. It got on the green, but only temporarily. Overcorrected a bit on the next one and hit it a bit firm and it rolled out to about 35 feet. Putt didn't break and it ran on a bit and I missed the one back (greens were fast and a little bumpy, which didn't help, but doesn't excuse either). (took 5 to get down from close to the green) 4th - had about 95 from the right rough, hit it on the green and two putts (3) 5th - 90 from the fairway, tugged it and it got a firm bounce, chipped on and hit what I thought was a decent chip, but it ran out down the hill and two putts from 20 feet (4) 7th - 65 from the fairway, significant upslope and hit it a bit hard, ran long left against the collar. Tried to blade a PW, but it got under a bit so didn't advance it anything like far enough. Made a good two putt from there (4) 11th - 63 from the fairway, hit a squirrelly pitch on the green and two putts (3) 12th - 75 from the semi-rough, caught it a bit clean and it wound up on the back edge. Putting down a tier and it ran 8 feet past (that was actually a really good putt and couldn't have done any better I don't think) and missed that (4) 13th - 55 from the fairway, overcorrected and hit the big ball before the small ball. Then made a stellar up and down from 25 yards short to an elevated green with a putter (3) 15th - down in three from a greenside bunker (3) That was it. The other 9 holes I hit it on the green from outside 100 yards. So on those 9 occasions, I took 32 shots to get in the hole. 3.56 average. Terrible. Reason I'm posting this in here is to see if anyone has any suggestions for how to work on my contact with pitch shots. I don't have access to a grass range. Only mats and it's easy off a mat. Partly I think my problem is I've hit it off mats so much this winter that I've lost my judgement on where the ball is versus the ground because of the leeway granted. Open to ideas. I also suspect that under pressure I stand a bit closer to it and then get steep and hit down on it and it puts me in a bad place, but I can't seem to get myself to not do that.
