What do you guys recommend for a new player range lessons or online lessons? I go back and forth on which way to go. Thanks in advance for the recommendations.

I'm currently taking lessons on Evolvr (evolvr.thegolfevolution.com) and have found it really beneficial.  There's pluses and minuses to both but Evolvr is seriously a great value.

It depends upon your instructor. I was not loading my wrists for the past year, and no one caught it on the video even though I posted them. Some things are more easily caught in person, but it depends heavily upon the quality of the instructor.

I cannot use a computer. Ever. Never ever. Hate them. Cant stand them. Think comps are geeky freaky. Dont get the error rate. Cant see the damn ball flight. Dont understand not being able to divot. Cant feel the wind or the air. Hate the lighting. Hate fake grass. Cant feel the earth under my feet. Hate the fake tee height. Want to move the sensor away from my ball. Dont trust electricity more than a human. But I am abnormal in so many ways its probably alright to use a computer. I guess I am undecided.

Quality instruction online is better than a live lesson from most golf instructors. Having said that I know a great instructor that's just outside of Dallas, Dennis Sales at Sinclair Golf Training Center.

Yes, it's definitly more about the instructor! But I would think errors could get ironed out quicker in person!

I second Dennis.  He taught me AimPoint.  But I also second online lessons with Evolvr.

I live a good two and a half hours from Dallas. That's one of the reasons I was considering online lessons. I have seen great feedback from guys on here about evolvr. There are a couple instructors within a half hour from me but I don't know of anyone who has taken lessons from them.

I'm pretty confident that Evolvr can help you. I did "on line" with Mike (mvmac) for about 6 months with really good results, then as I got better the fixes became more subtle. Last live lesson with him helped me. It takes me about 40-55 minutes to get to LB through traffic. If Mike suggests someone in Dallas, it is probably worth it as a start.

What I prefer about the online lessons is that I dnot need to make an appointment. I just go to the range whenever I can. Also, it forces me to use video all the time which is really essential. I'm very happy with evolvr, as others have said. I wouldn't even consider dropping it for live instruction.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
