Even $50 million is not that much to His Royal Airness.

Jordan earns an estimated $80 million a year from various corporate partners including Nike, Gatorade, Hanes, Upper Deck, 2K Sports, Presbyterian Healthcare and Five Star Fragrances. Other Jordan assets include six restaurants, a North Carolina car dealership, a motorsports team and his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets.  He is North Carolina's 4th billionaire.

Rumor has it retired athletes try to keep up with his at the tables in Vegas, but they don't realize he still has a highly flowing income, while they don't anymore, and they end up in the poorhouse fast.

Plus going to the green when his playing partners are still back in the fairway? He thinks too much of himself.

Maybe he's like me... he knows his playing partners are so bad, the green is the safest place to be... :-D

not to mention the $500m or so he has stashed in munis and other govt bonds. As I said, $5mil is nothing. If I was in his position, I'd get my own course too. For those who say "just be the first one off" lol. One, he's most likely trying to play multiple rounds per day. 2, why worry about getting to the course first, when the change in your cupholder gets you your own course?

Stop thinking about this in your terms; you've got unlimited money, what would you do? I'm shocked he doesn't already have his own course.

I'm shocked as well.  MJ's been playing golf for a while now.  I know in his first NBA video, they showed him golfing as well, and that was in the mid to late 80's.

In the mid 90's, they said he'd play 36 or even 54 holes before a playoff game!  They'd only mention in if his shooting was off, and they blamed tired legs from golfing so much.

You know your rich when you build you own golf course because a 3-hour round at a fancy country club is too slow for you.

I don't begrudge the man.

Country Club fast play is a myth beyond the "dawn patrol" players.   Clubs with a full membership base have the same slow play problems as do public courses.   Once you finish the early 18 and make the turn for the 2nd 18................you're still behind a bunch of slow play.      If you play golf late morning or mid day.......pace of play will be a problem at just about any private course that is thriving.   IE....like the prestigious high end courses  that MJ plays....

totally agree w/you, my thought is by reading this there are several Tour Players that have memberships at this club, and I'm sure there are several (nobodies, everyday people who also have memberships there that have a great game too) so basically to a degree what Jordan is saying here is he's more important and I dare anyone hold me up, after all I'm MJ..he does come across as a ass on and off the course imho

I don't get this at all. I think he wants to be able to play however many holes he want when he wants. What's wrong with that? He has enough $$$ to build a course that he can control I think it's awesome.

I don't have a issue with what or how he spends his $ (could care less actually) I do however think he thinks more highly of himself then he should in his golf game, trust me I'd love to be a 3 hcp someday as he is, but I also don't think he's the best at that club (even among everyday people who nobody knows) so I think it's showing here with this story, because he has the $ and thinks so highly of himself and is mad at slow play he'll go build his own course...kinda reminds me of the kid who took his ball home and didn't what to share..after all if slow play is there then he's not the only person at the club who deal with slow play, but again his thinking he's MJ is all he's thinking about here,......just my opinion though on MJ...

Instead of focusing on MJ's personality or lack there of, think about how awesome it would be to create your own golf course.

You have the kind of money to build what ever you want and not worry if it loses even more each year. Hire whoever you want to help you design it. It would be like creating true golf art on the largest possible scale.

He could quite easily just extend his Jordan brand across

You don't become the most successful sportsman of all time without having a personality haha.

Ok. Maybe not the best choice of words. People are speculating on what sort of guy he is, but obviously not really the point I was trying to make.

Except MJ building his own golf course has ZERO impact on anyone else at that club. They should be happy; now they don't have MJ running up their butts every round.

and pass on the opportunity to mindlessly make sweeping speculation on his personality based on little information? No, thank you.

Ever since Michael Jordan got sucked down that hole and was forced to play Alien Slavers with Bugs Bunny and Bill Murray and saved the world, he has been full of himself.
