How can i improve my distance?

Generate faster ball speed and optimize your launch and speed conditions. Also, play in less dense air.

Hi,

I try to faithfully do what Ben Hogan and Butch Harmon suggest- which is to attach my left bicep to my chest at set up and leave it there until impact.

So if I want to do as you suggest- "swing faster"- that means rotating my upper body faster while doing the lateral and rotational hip movement at the start of the downswing.

If that is what you meant by "swing faster" what do you do to learn how to rotate the upper body faster?

If that is not what you meant. what did you mean. Thx for the help

The long guys typically stay behind the ball at impact with the Driver. When I want to reach down and go longer, at address, I take my right palm and reach down and touch the outside if my right knee – it gives me what I like call a β€œsensation reminder” to keep my body behind the ball. I’m a rightly.

Welcome.

At least a couple of things will help you hit it longer: one is the proper technic and hitting the ball on the sweet spot, the other is strengthening your core muscle so that you can generate the speed needed to "hit it faster".  For increasing the core strength, there are number of exercises that can help you strengthen your core muscle.  But if you do weight training in general, it will help you hit it longer as any weight training will lead to more muscle mass and faster swing.  But don't over do the weight training.  What I mean by that is don't lose flexibility in favor of muscle gain.

You have to maintain your flexibility.

If you are not in good physical shape, I would recommend getting in shape to increase your speed.  You can do both at once, of course, by practicing more (to hit the sweet spot).  But I would recommend practice improving (not perfecting as one can never reach perfection in golf) your swing technique and do some weight training at least 3 times a week.

Just my 2 cents.

Clubhead speed is mostly ability. Handicap is directly tied to ball speed. Better players hit it further, still there can be a wide range between the absolute best and single digit handicap players.

A few things that can help out,

1) Work out. Not really to gain strength, but to maintain mobility and strengthen the support muscles. The more athletic moves in the golf swing are easier to achieve when you have a stronger core, hip, and leg muscles. I would look into Pilates, Yoga, and balancing.

2) Better mechanics. Your handicap is stated as a 12. You must have some pretty decent mechanics. Still you have a lot of room to improve.

3) Swing faster. That goes hand in hand with better mechanics and being able to support athletic movements.

Swing faster?   That reminds me of Matt Kucher TV ads in which he says things like -  you want to putt the ball into the hole, hit 300 yard to the middle of fairway, .... :-D .

I am trying to get rid of flipping at impact so that I get lower trajectory ball flight to gain more distance.   Golf specific workout, fine tuning mechanics - lessons, better/fitted clubs all helped so far.

OK so first thing is to setup and aim about 120 yards left of the fairway and then step 2 is swing hard as hell.  This will result in a monster drive with a beautiful fade back into the fairway that will wow your family and friends.
