We've been hearing for years now how great Tiger is on the practice range, that his rounds at his home course are really good, etc., etc. 66 on worst ball is absolutely incredible, but I don't think it changes anything for Tiger. It probably just confirms even more that his issues are mental.

It sounds encouraging, but nothing really matters until he tees it up in real events.

I remember hearing Greg Norman say his best worst ball round was even par. I don't think anyone could manage -6, not even Tiger. Unless he played the white tees.

I'm sure Greggy will come out with some kind of statement of how his par round was really better than Tiger's 66.

Validating the putts IS part of the requirements of playing worst ball.  You have to hit every shot twice and take the worse of the two.  But, yeah ... super impressive.

And even more amazing, you don't even GET the 10 foot birdie putt unless your other approach was even closer!

But then again, what the hell do I know?

And just as importantly, it only matters if he can do it for more than a round.   It's hard to do with all the injuries he had, at his age, and coming back from months of layoff.

I think Rosaforte was misinformed or he misinterpreted what was told to him. I think Woods played two balls separately and marked down the worst score out of the two balls. Still impressive, but it's not nearly the same as what Rosaforte described it as. Worst ball 66 sounds pretty impossible.

do you know it was reported wrong, or just guessing based on the score? Just curious.

I'm making a guess party because of the score, since shooting 66 in what Roseforte described as "worst ball" would be next to impossible. I think his explanation of worst ball was wrong. In a two man best ball, each player plays their own ball and they mark the best score on each hole. In a two man scramble, each player hits a tee shot and they pick the best shot, then both shoot from there and so forth. What Roseforte was describing was like a 1 man worst shot scramble. I looked up what a golf "worst ball" was and I only found one site, which seems to agree with my definition. http://www.golfalot.com/instruction/formats.aspx

You could be right, but… Tim's been around long enough to know the difference between "worst (score) ball" and "worst (reverse scramble) ball" if you know what I'm saying.

I'm still going to lean quite heavily toward "he knew what he was talking about."

I'm sure he knew what he was talking about, I just think that the term "worst ball" is not well defined, and someone made a mistake in reporting the wrong definition. It could have been the person who told Rosaforte about the round.
