When Does a Tour Player Become a "Name" Player?

For me, it's when I notice someone, either because the media hypes them up, because of their own self promotion while playing, or because of the way they played a particular tournament that stood out to me.

For most people, I would say it's when the media spotlights them and/or when they win a major.

They become a "Name" player when people in the media decide there's something about them that would be of interest to their viewers / readers.  The media likes to build up or tear down athletes so they tend to gravitate towards those who evoke an emotion in a positive or negative manner.

When I can recognize their face and put a name to it without any context they are a name player in my book. Though that criteria might get a little loose if I followed the tour a lot more closely than I do now.
