I've been practicing a lot more than I have been playing... I had someone look at my swing from basically 7-iron down through the wedges and I'm not flipping... My issue is: I hit my PW about 125 on average, my other two wedges I swing full, not proportional to that... I hit my Gap wedge (95-100 yards, if I'm lucky), and my Sandy (75 yards with a solid hit)... Could I be decelerating a little? Catching it on a weird part of the face? By the way, I'm not really chunking it either, but not taking much of divot... A lot of you know I hit the ball very very high with all of my clubs...

I don't know about the whole swing part or anything but is your gap wedge 52 or 50 and is your pitching wedge 46? I have a 46 pitching wedge that I hit about 130 and a 50 degree gap that goes around 115-120 so it could be your equipment.

Exotics CU pw is 45 degrees, so 7 degrees between pw and gap. Difference in shafts could also account for part of the distance gap.

Yes I know about the 7 degree loft difference... But it doesn't seem like I should have a 25-30 yard gap between my 45° PW and 52° GW and another 20-25 yards to my 56° SW... What can you tell me about difference in shafts, Mike?

"Spinner technology can increase your ball’s spin rate by as much as 700+ RPM". I had them in some Edel wedges and also hit them shorter.

http://www.truetemper.com/products/dg-spinner/

I don't want to link to other sites so just google "DG Spinner going shorter". Some players like them and others do notice some distance lose.

I would also film your swing to confirm your Key #3 is good.

I have a similar distance issue and I am coming to the conclusion that it is a mixture of three factors:

a) my 47* PW is cavity backed with a high COR whereas my 52* and 56* wedges are forged

b) my skill level is more suited to cavity backed clubs as they are more forgiving of off centre strikes

c) spin

I am thinking of replacing my 52* with a cavity backed 51* AW

7 degrees loft difference could explain 20+yds distance between your pitch and gap wedge pretty easily.  DG spinners are known to launch high with a lot of spin.  And it doesn't take much to add a little loft to a wedge and sky ball it.  I know I fight that at times with my sand wedge.

Worked on the in-line impact... Got a little more distance out of the wedges... Up to about 100-105 with the gapper but looking to close the gap a little more...

I have a DG spinner in my 60*. It's a great shaft for a LW, not sure I'd want one in my 56 or 52 as I tend to hit those full swing looking for specific distances of about 100-105 and 110-115 respectively. But this is probably OT so, carry on. :-P

Possibly it's a shaft issue. Your G, S, and L all have Spinner flex shafts.

2015 GolfWorks catalog says this on Spinners: "Designed with revolutionary 3" section below the brip that crates an otima bending profile for increased spin and lower launch angle.

Two versions for SW/LW and PW/GW..."  (did you by chance get all SW/LW in your wedges?)

Early blurbs on Rifle Spinner Wedges (2012) suggested they worked best for players who hit less than full shots with their wedges.

So, check out the specs on whichever version of Spinners you have in your G-S-Ls. This may provide some clues.

Interesting, I never knew that they had two models. I hope mizuno put the right one in mine! Then again, I love my 60* just the way it is so I guess it doesn't matter.

OK, here's a good question... I've been working on SK #3... And putting more weight forward SK #2... I got the gap wedge up around 105 some work, and 90 or so with they sand wedge... Still 20 yards though... Thinking about getting the matching AW, but I'd have a problem with my 56° gap, but I'd rather have it there since I hit that full only once in a while. Is the matching AW worth the gap between that and the 56°?

Sorry I'm confused, you're thinking about replacing the gap wedge with a matching AW?

Yes the Exotics CU AW (50°), I may get the CU SW too (56°) with the same shafts as my irons... Also probably will give the 60° some closet time...

What's in Shane's Bag?

Ball: 2022 :callaway: Chrome Soft Triple Track Driver: :callaway:Paradym Triple Diamond 8° MCA Kai’li 70s FW: :callaway:Paradym Triple Diamond  H: :callaway: Apex Pro 21 20°I (3-PW) :callaway: Apex 21 UST Recoil 95 (3), Recoil 110 (4-PW). So I ordered an Exotics CU AW (50°) and SW (56°), (I also got 4-PW with longer shafts, but that's beside the point)... I got the gap down to 20 yards by the way 102-105 with the 52° wedge, 122-125 with the PW... Do you think now that the three wedges I have in the bag will have the same heads, and shafts the gaps will be tighter, or is it a swing issue?

"On paper", I think without the spinner shafts you'll have a better chance at getting the gaps tighter. Can't speak to your swing since I haven't seen a face-on view.

I have about a 15 yard gap between my pitching wedge and gap but it's not really a big deal because I hit a lot of 3/4 wedge shots.

    • Nothing exposes low point control, and for that matter the general quality of ball striking like tight lies. Lol! I am at a crossroad. My days of playing with a super strong left hand grip are coming to an end it seems. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain proper face control through impact as the club face naturally wants to turn over. The quality of strike and ball flight difference when I weaken the grip is stark. Problem is a weaker grip is at odds with my poor sore left forearm which I have been nursing for last few days after 3 days of demanding golf. As of now I will continue my 'transition' to a weaker grip with woods and hopefully my forearm will condition as I go along. Maybe someday I'll get to a normal address with irons too.
