I've always said he's in between Tiger and Phil. He has the consistency of Phil, but when he's on, he's better than Phil and more like Tiger. But when he's off, man can he be off. Something in his swing happened in the second round of BMW last week because he's +16 over his last 36 holes. Sounds more like my scorecard. He needs to figure it out because I believe this may be his last tourney before Chambere Bay. He was a question mark for Memphis.

It could be fatigue. He's been playing a lot.

I agree, probably 2 tournaments too many in the last 5 weeks. To continually perform well, both physically and mentally is near on impossible.

Could be. I figured 6 days off and a tournament he's really motivated to play in, he'd play well. But guess not. Will be interesting to see if he plays the St. Jude or just goes right into the Open.

+9 for Rory at day one..... Unbelievable. Worst score of the whole field so far.

Rory almost seems to play himself out of form for whatever reason. Maybe he is the type of player that would benefit from fewer tournaments, just playing in the majors and others which suit his game. He probably doesn't get that option though as the #1.

Kaymer, who was in the same flight if I'm not mistaken, with a +8 btw and T149. Were they drunk or something?

What site are you getting the scores from?  ESPN does not have Rory's or Kaymer's scores even listed, What a joke this thing called ESPN Golf.

Rickie Fowler has been a scrambling machine as of late. Id love it if he could win this. Damn Rory...just.....damn it all. Hoping for a miracle to see him on the weekend. And did I read this right? No one has scored lower then a 67 here in over 40 years!?

Rory is the opposite of Spieth. He has extreme highs and lows, while Spieth is the model of consistency.

A lot of it has to do with the two swings. Spieth's swing is more sweet and simple. He has the kind of swing that he does not have to change while he's playing on the PGA Tour, which is why I think Jordan is going to be more of a long-term force to be reckoned with. Rory's swing has a lot of moving parts to it. Reminds me of Rickie where if one part is off, the whole swing is off. He just goes into slumps with his swing like a batter.

Fowler

Kaymer/McIlroy

From European Tour: http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/season=2015/tournamentid=2015040/stats/index.html

Safe to say, McIlroy had a less than average day from the tee. He hit more fairways than his group of Kaymer/Fowler (43% vs. 29% for them). He didn't drive as far as them, but he hit more greens (50% vs. 39% for them). It appears McIlroy will miss the cut mainly due to poor putting. Who'd have thought McIlroy would hit more fairways and greens than Kaymer and Fowler, but be darned near last place after Round 1?

Looks like Padraig had an amazing day hitting greens and sinking putts (1.3putts/GIR and 24putts overall). Wonder if he was sticking it close or just sinking everything he looked at.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
