IMO, the Repubs letting Trump play in the sandbox has been both comedic relief and a strategic move.  I don't think they would ever give him serious consideration as their candidate regardless of his poll results because he's a loose cannon and they have absolutely no control over him.  Politicians have to be good little puppets that talk and move when their masters pull the strings (this goes for both parties, so I'm not throwing stones at Republicans only here) and toe the party line.  Trump is only for Trump's agenda and doesn't answer to anybody else (as he's repeatedly shown).  The comedic relief part of it is letting him run his mouth and put out all kinds of ridiculous (and occasionally funny) quotes; the strategic part is that when they've finally had enough and kick him to the curb, any of their other candidates will look good by comparison.

That'd be an all OK sign for Trump to run as an independent.

I wouldn't rule out the thought of him doing exactly that.  But he and the Republicans both know that by doing so, he'll probably screw them worse than Ross Perot did in '92.  Whether he's qualified to serve as POTUS or not, he's saying things that a lot of people want to hear and regardless of how much he offends some people, he would probably garner a considerable number of votes.

He is offending people at faster rate than gaining supporters.   Even his current supporters will start to leave him if he keeps up with his NPD ways.  The new polls will tell.

He admitted that he knows he's not the GOP's ideal candidate but given his poll results he has leverage (fear if he ran as an independent that he'd steal votes from the GOP candidate) so he's making it very difficult for the GOP to not select him.

Trump is all about winning in everything he does and he'll use whatever leverage he can to win.  The only way this possibly works out okay imo is 1) the GOP offers him the V.P. position so he can gain some political and foreign policy experience but I'm not sure he'd even accept that compromise or 2) The GOP figures out a way to get Trump to drop out and save face so it doesn't appear he lost or caved.

Chuckle.   Thanks for the link.

Imagine if Trump was born in Iraq, Lybia, old Germany and somehow came to power.  Looking at how vengeful Trump is (can't even let go what Megyn asked in the GOP debate), he is likely to lock up anyone and everyone who he thinks offended him.   He got dictator written all over his head and 20% of Reps think they are better off with Trump than any other candidate.

And that is what would scare me about a Trump Presidency.

Dont get me wrong I am enjoying his candidacy, just for the fact that he is a clown who is exposing the circus for what they are.

He is saying the things that the other candidates think but dare not say. he is turning the teaparty minded against fox news and against the republican party.

it is entertaining to watch.

That being said if people complained about the amount of executive orders used by GWB and BHO, I would have to imagine Trump would blow that number out of the water.

Everytime Congress failed to pass something trump was in favor of he would just throw down an executive order. it is in his nature as the head of all his businesses. He gets what he wants and fires those who dont get it for him.

Sure he may say the things you like, but how would he put any of that into law?

How does he plan on building a fence?

Funny thing is, most of them scare me more than Trump. Of those polling over 1% anyway, only possibly Kasich seems to me like he might actually be a better president than Trump.

But my opinion shouldn't matter really, since there was no chance I was going to vote Republican, anyway.

This is also probably the same type of guy who thinks we have had too many Clinton's in the white house. Then Votes for Jeb Bush!

Trump is leading the GOP polls but he is still only in the range of 25% and that number will never get better. It will take a while but, as soon as they start to narrow the field, Trump's chances will fade accordingly. Meanwhile, let's all enjoy the clown show.

Hyperbole?

I think the big problem is that we all know Trump is a horrible candidate who would make a horrible Commander in Chief... yet all of the vitriol has been spent on so many other people over the years. How can we attack Trump, because all of the attacks have already been used before?  It's hard for legitimate attacks on Donald Trump to even stand out.  Is he worse than the long line of others that have been vilified? It's hard for the low information person to tell. I think he stands out as a notably bad candidate, but unfortunately, we've all become numb to the media outrage and left-wing pile on (and right-wing pile on too, in this case).

If they'd held their most severe fire for only those that deserved it, then we might be able to adequately describe how bad Trump is. As it stands, he's just another guy that we attack. In fact, the crapstorm flying his way possibly benefits him because the media has been seen as discredited by so many over time.
